I am in constant pursuit of the best travel shoes. I start every trip asking myself: where am I going? How cold will it be? Will there be much walking? And by extension, what are the absolute best comfortable travel shoes I can bring on this trip?
I am continually surprised by how much joy it brings me to see shoes hanging from the power lines. I am sure it is an absolute nuisance for the companies maintaining the power lines, and possibly quite upsetting if you are the owner of the shoes and a victim of some sort of bullying. But I cant help but smile each time I see them hanging there. Well, after a quick Google, Wikipedia tells me that Shoefiti (shoe flinging) is a worldwide activity & infact in some places it is used to advertise the location of a 'crack house' or to mark the territory of gang turf. In some places the hanging shoes signify that someone has died & the shoes hanging are belongings of the deceased. Wikipedia says it may also be another manifestation of the human instinct to "leave their mark on" and decorate their surroundings. The list goes on... Strangely, I think I was a little disappointed to see soooo many reasons behind the shoe-fling! There was something I liked about driving along to see sneakers hanging from the lines & to think that someone did that for no reason at all! But it definitely made my day to recently find another hanging treat near our home. Remember those completely giant, oversized, wooden spoon & fork sets that people would mount on their dining room walls in the 60's & 70's? We now are able to appreciate them each day on our drive home... someone has kindly attached 'shoe laces' and flung them over the power lines also. Thank you... not sure about anyone else, but it makes me smile.

Never mind we can dream, right? No worries, I didn't start shopping for summer clothes, I am still on a shopping detox, do you remember? But I browse for that perfect summer basket bag. That's been on my wishlist for a few years now. I just can't make up my mind which one is the best. I think you can spot my favourite style straight away.

How many times a day are you asked "Can you tie my shoes?". If you teach little ones, you spend a considerable amount of time at the beginning of the year tying shoes. When I was pregnant with my daughter, this became an issue for me because it was uncomfortable to bend over tying shoes. I always included a message about either work with your child or send them with shoes with velcro until they learn how in my Back to School night speech. But, not all parents followed this suggestion. At the time, I was teaching kindergarten in San Antonio, TX. I wondered if children there learned to tie shoes later because the weather is warm most of the year so they wear flip flops and sandals most of the year. You know how McDonald's markets to children with Happy Meals. I decided to take the McDonald's approach with this skill. To do this, I created a "Wall of Fame". I hung up a simple sign - nothing elaborate. I told my students that when they could show me that they could tie their shoes, I would give them a shoe to decorate and write their name on. The name would be placed on the "Wall of Fame". Plus I would give them a piece of shoestring licorice. Shoestring licorice is hard to find. In Texas, I found it at CVS or Walgreen's. I now live in California and looked at these stores but they don't carry it. I spoke to the manager of one of the stores and she suggested pull 'n peel Twizzlers or Sour Punch straws. These both look like shoelaces. The McDonald's approach worked like a charm! Suddenly my students (according to reports from my parents) were wanting to practice tying their shoes at home. It was completely worth a little time to make the Wall of Fame and the cost of the candy. The unexpected benefit to this was the goal setting that my students learned from this experience. Our Wall of Fame grew to include other skills. You can read about it HERE. I made a freebie for you. You can use this as the sign on the Wall of Fame to tell the goal or you can use it as a cover for a class book. Students can write the steps of tying their shoes on the page below and then you can combine the pages into a class book. Click HERE to download this freebie. How do you encourage your students to learn to tie their shoes?

Pop quiz! You love Christian Louboutin shoes because: A. The sky-high stilettos are elegant yet seductive. B. Showstopping textures and dramatic details are your thing. C. You feel like Cinderella whether you're wearing a flat or a heel. D. All of the above. For any true Louboutin-lover, the answer is clearly D. All of the above, which is why I'm sharing the spring 2013 collection; it hits stores (and online) today! How awesome would these tie-dye slingbacks look with a white sundress? Helloooo, new office shoes. Loving how the tassel adds a feminine touch to the tried-and-true suede booties! Can you say weekend sandals? I would wear these everywhere. Cherry red spiked pumps are definitely not for the faint of heart, but they're fantastic nonetheless. Perfect way to break up any denim-on-denim look. The veritable definition of sexy secretary. This multicolor sequin pump will help up the ante on any plain ol' LBD. Isn't the pairing of suede and python, the peep-toe, and the happy summer hues the best? And finally, I have a feeling these are going to be my go-to warm-weather wedge. Now it's your turn! Which pair do you like the most? Photos: Christian Louboutin
