Welcome to my fabric journey! Let't talk about quilting, fabric, design, family, pickles and bowls. Not necessarily in that order...
Crazypatch background, appliqué, free-motion, couching. For a short time, many years ago, I lived by a seaside lagoon. These poppies were growing nearby and I fell in love with the glaucous leaves. I decided to make the entire background the colour of the leaves. The flowers float in an abstract sea of foliage. We have been anxiously awaiting the Hungarian Blue line of fabric from Clothworks since we ordered it in June. I was web surfing yesterday and saw it was advertised on the Hancock of Paducah's website and I was *hopeful* that it would arrive today and it DID! In a word they are PRETTY. Deep saturated tones of blue with clean crisp white. Love love love them. Here are some closer pictures so you can appreciate the detail in the prints And some more... Clothworks is providing a free pattern to go along with this line of fabric. Follow this link to their website to download it for your own personal use! We also have a few copies in the shop! We had a nice group for Quilts of Valor in the shop today. Thank you to all who made it in to donate their time, talent and fabric. As the ladies were heading out for the day their enthusiasm was contagious and they happily welcomed a new customer who was interested willing to help! The group is growing already- how great is that! See everyone again the second Tuesday in September.

I've been having such a lovely time with my family in Iowa. I'm here until next Wednesday and then fly back home. I've spent a few of my days with my sisters and Mom going to several antique shops. One of the days my sister and I went to the Amana Colonies which is a German settlement. I was able to find some lovely vintage finds on my little outings that are just the sweetest. At an antique/quilt shop I found a sweet vintage nursery embroidered quilt! It is all hand stitched and the detail is so beautiful! It took my breath away when I saw it! I showed my mom when I got back and she started to cry as she said it is so similar to what my baby quilt looked like. I was born in Iran since my dad was working there for Boeing and that was one sentimental thing that got left when they were rushed out when the Shah was over thrown. So I don't remember my baby quilt. I feel so blessed to have found this special little quilt! It had several large brown stains and was able to work some magic on it. I used some oxi-clean by putting a scoop full in a small amount of water and then spread it on the stains. I left it over night and then did it one more time the next morning and laid it in the sun for a couple hours. I can hardly even see where they were now. It really was like magic! One of my favorites parts of the quilt is the binding. There are the most delicate embroidered accents on a beautiful solid aqua. At the same shop I found these lovely vintage feedsack squares. They are in the loveliest reds, aquas and pinks! The numbers are stitched onto the stack that tells how many squares are in each one. It makes me wonder what project she had in mind for them. I'm planning on making some 3/4 inch hexies with them. Here is one of the antique shops in the Amana Colonies. They had quite a few antique shops...so much fun!! A sweet vintage book and a couple vintage feedsack rag balls. I want to make a small rag rug and maybe do strips of the feedsack with strips of a white solid. Has anyone made one before or know of any good tutorials? This is another one of my favorite finds...a vintage nursery rhyme brush-n-palette set. It is in such lovely condition! There are about 20 pages of nursery stories and only one has been painted on. I thought I'd scan them and clean them up a bit and offer them as an embroidery set. :) I'm always looking for vintage hankies. I really love these ones. A pair of crocheted boy and girl pot holders. Aren't they adorable!! I have been working on my star hexagon paper pieces here and there too. It is the perfect project since I don't have my sewing machine. :) I only have one more to make and then add some diamonds to the sides to square it up. I can't wait to see it all finished! Earlier in the week we spent part of the day in Nauvoo. It is one of my favorite places. We got there a little later in the day so missed some of the activities I wanted to do so am hoping to go back once more before we leave. My mom and my little guys in Nauvoo. Some sweet fabric has arrived since I've been out of town. My husband and sil are helping with the shop so these pictures were taken by them. :) A few more Sweet Shoppe fabric to add to the ones I already had. The beautiful Antique Flower in Pastel has finally arrived! Yippee! Doesn't it look so lovely! I can't wait to see it when I get back. I hope everyone has had a lovely week and enjoys their week-end!! Happy Friday, my friends!

These embroidered fabric loves notes are perfect for Valentine's Day, Mother's Day, or just to say "I love you" on any day. The listing is for one 4" x 6 1/2" card tucked inside a fabric envelope. Envelope fabric varies. It may be different from the listing photos but it will definitely be cute! Use fabric markers or fine point sharpies to personalize the "notebook paper" with your own message and doodles. These cards are wonderful keepsakes that will last forever. Paper greeting cards cost a fortune and almost always get tossed in the trash. These fabric notes will become keepsakes and cherished forever. Even better...they are made from fabric remnants and scraps that would otherwise be headed to the landfill. Since all Memory Threads items are handmade, they have slight variations, making each one of them as individual as you. On these love notes, embroidery patterns and sizes may vary.

Cottage Hearts...pillow kit I have had this project (or something like it) rolling around for awhile now. I knew i wanted hearts on fabric in a pillow...but i wasn't sure if i wanted to cut a stencil and stamp them, do some sort of patchwork heart, or applique. Well, with Valentine's Day a month away i decided that it was now or never. So several days ago i dug through our off-cuts, leftovers, and scrap packs for pinks, reds, and backgrounds. I cut my pieces (scaling it back the 5 x 5 layout to 4 x 4). Over a cold January weekend...i whipped up this lovely. Cottage Hearts measures approximately 18 x 18 inches. Progress: forward or onward movement toward a destination I haven't had much of a chance the last couple of weeks to put as much time into the repurposed linens quilt as I would like. We have two kids taking college classes this year. They both started their school year last week. One is finishing university and the other, high school. Our youngest is turning 14 soon and transitioning into 9th grade. We've finally been able to put our parenting philosophy into words: The journey IS the destination. Right now, I'm sort of flying along the road less travelled of still raising kids full time. The youngest two started soccer a couple of weeks ago, and while it's awesome to have one drive to practices and class, it seems I've had less "me" time on my hands. To read. To clean. To work in the yard. To sew. To make "progress" on so many things I want to do. My onward movement is to help my kids navigate their school years forward into adulthood. I've been doing it for over twenty-one years now, and I know that these next 4-5 years will most times...go very fast. So I keep parenting them. Grocery shopping. Cooking. Laundry. Dishes. Sweeping. Scheduling appointments. Shuttling hither and yon. Nursing injuries and adolescent angsts. Teaching. Lecturing. Nagging...loving. And I sit. When I can. When I have time. When I'm yet again waiting on someone else to be ready. And I add another block to the growing pile. I fiddle. Rearrange. Squint. Rearrange. And when I hear, "Mom! I'm ready!", I turn off the iron, hit the light switch and shut the sewing machine down. And the journey, once again, is full speed ahead. Quilt Story Better Off Thread i have to say freshly pieced and crazy mom quilts Find me here.
This quilt has become so popular on all the popular online sites and so many people want to know the name of the pattern. (I posted it further down in the blog post but I thought I would add it up here in the first paragraph.). The pattern is called Rising Stars by Cozy Quilt Designs.. Well, I finished this quilt just in the nick of time. I am taking a break from doing the hand binding, and hand stitching the casings on four quilts so they can be hung in my guild's quilt show tomorrow. This is a UFO that sat on my shelves for years, at least the jelly rolls did, and then I started this quilt back in January. I wasn't quite sure just how I was going to quilt it until I just happened upon an IMQA calendar that had this same pattern in it! Wow! I loved the way Debbie Treusch had broken down the elements in this by framing each 16 patch. I contacted Debbie and let her know that her quilt inspired me and she wished me luck with my quilt! She is one talented lady, and has won many awards in the quilting world. The pattern is called Rising Stars by Cozy Quilts. Be sure to tell them I referred you :) Of course I had to put my own creativity on it, so I changed up the fills, the sashing, the feather style, as well as the cc's in the 16 patches. I am a bit disappointed that I did not use a contrasting thread in the white. The stitch definition shows up beautiful in natural light, but in artificial light it gets lost. In the future I will use a slight contrast. After all, why do all that custom quilting to have it get lost? This will most likely be my last personal quilt I work on for quite awhile, as I have a few customer quilts that I am really excited to start on!
I forgot how much I like to do these things...
