We are working on suffixes -ed and -ing this week in phonics. I wanted to pop in and share a few freebies with you all. I don't know about y'all, but figuring out if I need to double a consonant, leave it alone, or drop the e before adding -ed and -ing can be all kinds of confusing! So many rules! Can I get an amen?! So, to clear the mud, we have been working our tails off understanding the rules. Here's what we went over. and over. and over again until we all had it down! 1+1+1 Rule: Double the consonant if the word has one syllable, one vowel, and one final consonant. Rule Breakers: Do not double the final consonant if the word ends with w, x, or y. Here is the interactive anchor chart we used. Inspired by Amy Lemons. Each student had a sticky note with a word on it. They had to sort it under the correct flip. ....dropping the e: they said that was easy peasy! We also talked about words that do not follow the 1 + 1 + 1 rule. We leave those words alone and just add our suffix. Afterwards, the kiddos made these Clip and Flip books. You can download them here. We also used these verb cards to apply our rules to. You can download them here. ....and of course we had to make something cute to hang in the room, so we made our Sunny Suffixes. You can find Sunny Suffixes here for free. We have one more day of -ed and -ing and then we move on to -er and -est. Don't forget I am having a giveaway for a graphic tee from TTandTwins on Instagram! I have been a lover of graphic tees for the longest and this shop is one of my favorites! Stop by to enter. Friday is the last day! You can find the giveaway here.
Common cognitive distortions, such as overgeneralization, can influence how you feel. But there are strategies to help you manage "stinking thinking".

This lesson was inspired by the Center for Non Violent Communication (https://www.cnvc.org). By being able to identify one's own feelings and needs, it makes it much easier to have empathy for how others are feeling and what they are needing. This is a simplified version of the Feels and Wants inventory on CNVC along with a worksheet to help children understand themselves and others, promote emotional development, resolve conflict, and improve social skills. Provide the children with the Feelings and Needs worksheet first and have them think of a conflict they had with someone in their life. Next, help them identify how they felt and what they needed from the other person they had a conflict with. They can color and/or cut out the feelings and needs they identify with and paste them into the right spot. Explain that there are good feelings when one's needs are met, and bad feelings when your needs are not met. Next, find out what they they the other person felt and needed. Follow up with the What I Will Say Next Time worksheet (included). This encourages them to use "I-messages," otherwise known as saying how you feel from your own perspective without casting blame onto the other person. It simply informs of them of your feelings when they do certain things, and lets them know what you need instead. See the example below: I feel _____ when you _______ because________ What I need is _____________ In addition to the provided sheets of Feelings and Needs, I have also added a blank sheet of each so they are customizable. Enjoy!

Unless a person decides that `Whatever the cost, I want just to be myself. Condemned, unaccepted, losing respectability - everything is okay but I cannot pretend anymore to be somebody else`... This decision and this declaration - this declaration of freedom, freedom from the weight of the crowd - gives birth to your natural being, to your individuality. Then you don`t need any mask. Then you can be simply yourself, just as you are. And the moment you can be just as you are, there is tremendous peace that passeth understanding.
