source When I started this blog I had a closet full of pieces that I only knew how to wear one way. Because I didn’t know how to shop for versatile pieces or how to utilize a piece in multiple ways, I found myself feeling like I had to buy more and more clothes to diversify my wardrobe. One of my hopes with this blog was that I’d be able to build a mix-and-match wardrobe that I could get more mileage out of and ultimately cut down the felt need to buy more. I wanted to bring depth to my closet instead of continuing to go for breadth. Another hope was that I’d be able to help others do the same. Next week I’m kicking off a little series on learning to work your closet. Right now I’m mostly planning to focus on how to build a remixable wardrobe. I’m definitely not claiming to be an expert of any sort. Plenty of you are style bloggers who are natural remixers and fashionistas, but there are also many who are in the same boat as me and are learning to remix your pieces better. Remixing clothing didn’t come naturally to […]
I experienced some serious fashion envy when I saw this inspiration photo. I think her ivory sweater and glammed up jewelry are the perfect holiday look! I searched my closet for ivory sweaters and this was the only thing I had that was relatively close to my inspiration. I wasn't sure at first if n
The April Cornell blouse was never worn and at the back of my closet. This brand only produces quality clothes. The material is substantial, and the embroidery is beautiful. The buttons are so pretty, and you have two to spare. It is gorgeous up close and attention to detail would be accurate for the brand, April Cornell so if you want to look refined and classy, this would be your choice. The Guess sweater is very light and perfect for a summer/early autumn evening. The blue and white remind me of water, boats, and the beach. Both shirts are an XS. The measurement for the blouse armpit to armpit is 20 inches and the sweater is 22 inches armpit to armpit. Guess Sweater - $24.00 and April Cornell - $39.00

There was a time … I had a dedicated section of my closet for “final sale fails”. (There was a lot of lululemon in there before they finally changed their return policy on sale items!) 😅 I really wasn’t expecting this Marimekko wool cardigan to end up in closet purgatory because I have a few other Marimekko tops in XS — those must have been oversized fits — and sadly this XS was true to size. It’s brand new with tags, and only tried on once. This would be a great transitional piece for the warm winter we are having, and the flower print is instantly recognizable. 🙂 I also made the same sizing mistake on a black crew neck pullover from Marimekko, so please check that out that listing if you prefer something more neutral.
“My style is schizophrenic. This outfit is really conservative for me. I love colours and colour co-ordination.I buy second hand only.Leigh Bowery is my style icon.”
We finally finished this closet makeover and I am so excited to share with you the finished product! This was a mess full of toys and no organization. I shopped…
My husband shot this quick video of me last night giving you a little peak at my minimalist wardrobe, since I've received so many questions about my six mix and match outfits. If you're a fashionista or you like variety, you'll might be a little horrified (or very horrified!), but it's what works for me and it saves me so much time and effort to keep it simple!I was going to include a detailed explanation of how this works and my criteria for choosing clothing and keeping my closet pared down. Instead, I'm going to just post up the video and then if you have questions, I'll either answer them in the comments or in a follow-up post.{My apologies that the video is so skinny. I totally forgot that we needed to turn the phone the other way to shoot this. We're still learning and will eventually get the hang of video blogging... maybe!}
Our beautiful everyday wrap dress is a closet staple. I designed this wrap dress in my postpartum time when I was wanting to feel put together and sophisticated while also feeling comfortable in my ever-changing body. This is an all-body, ageless dress. Our wrap dress is very very size fluid as is typical with the nature of the wrap dress. Tie it tight or tie it loose; tie it in the back or front. It is your everyday dress to be styled up or down. We designed our wrap dress to have big billowy puff sleeves - as we do here at Honeydove! I love the feminine flare and comfort that puff sleeves bring. We made our everyday wrap dress in our favorite comfy cozy raw silk. It is so yummy and very warming. We are not offering any dyed dresses—only this beautiful natural creme color. This dress is running true to size. We have three sizes: 1, 2 and 3. I am 5'5", 120lb and typically wear a 2-4 and I wear the 1 but can also wear the 2. I would say size 1 is most like an XS-M. Size 2 is most like a S-L. Size 3 is L to XXL. So for example if you are a smaller size L then you could wear the 2 or 3. If you are sized similarly to me, you could wear the 1 or 2. Sizing up means more volume, a little more length and puff. The Process of Creating a Dress: Creating a dress begins with having an idea made by a sample maker. After many iterations of sample, we send it out to a pattern maker to digitize our pattern. We then have the pattern sent to our sew team for them to figure out how to sew it in larger batches than a single unit. We then receive the sew sample back and make any adjustments to how it was sewn. We then make our production ready pattern and send this to our size grader. Our size grader grades the pattern and sends it to our sew team for fabric cutting. This dress takes 5-7 yards of raw silk to produce (depending on size.) We lose about 25% of each yard of fabric in the washing process of raw silk. Being a beautiful natural fiber, our raw silk per yard averages $14 (the cost of silk has gone up about 15% with the pandemic) not including taxes (10% california tax where we sew our garments), fees and shipping costs. Each dress has multiple parts and takes approximately ~5 hours to cut and sew by an individual human operating a single needle machine. The dress is then sent to washing, where we pre-shrink the dress and then have it pressed and packed. It is then sent to us. As you can see, the dress passes through many hands and there are many people that are needing to be paid in the process of creating our beautiful dress! We calculate our dress by putting together the cost unit of each dress and all fees associated with its creation. We then make sure we are paying ourselves per unit. This is how we arrive at the cost we have. Because I produce in very small batches (around ~100 units maximum) our sewing costs are very high. Made is LA. Measurements for this wrap dress are difficult to take. The measurements were taken by laying the dress flat with a relaxed fit (so laid out as if it was being worn.) Measurements are ball park to give you an idea of what it can fit but also you can tie these tighter as needed! 1 Ptp 19” Bust 20” Waist 21” Hip 24” Total length 45" 2 Ptp 21” Bust 21” Waist 23” Hip 26” Total length 46” 3 Ptp 28” Bust 30” Waist 23” Hip 60” Total length 47.5"
