Mark Twain said, "In a good bookroom you feel in some mysterious way that you are absorbing the wisdom contained in all the books through your skin, without even opening them." Mark Twain would have lost his mind if he saw these places.
The film industry is certainly known for its share of surprises. Whether we’re talking about obscure movie Easter eggs or the greatest behind-the-scenes facts, there are plenty of secrets that are not visible to the naked eye. And they would probably stay hidden if not for cinema aficionados who seek to know the ins and outs of the business.

The David Phillips, Sr. house is Bradford's most distinctive high style Queen Anne mansion said to have been built in 1889. Mr. Phillips was born in England in 1845 and arrived in Bradford in the 1880's to set up a machine shop for the oil business. He soon amassed a fortune and built this house for himself and his wife. Unfortunately, he died in California in 1895 while trying to recover from tuberculosis. The Phillips House features all of the hallmarks of the style such as towers, turrets, stained glass, organic, flowing, asymmetrical massing, and profuse ornamentation inside and out. Architect is unknown but likely came from nearby Buffalo, NY or Erie, PA.. An early photo of the house shows a window where the fire escape door is now on the gable. It also shows an ornamental projecting window hood to the right of the gable, now missing. (an early Congress St. postcard was recently purchased and will soon be posted in this set) Houses of this type were once fairly common but are now somewhat rare. It was bought in 2009 by an e-Bay architectural salvage dealer and it's fate is unknown.
2 story library, by champagne.chic via Flickr A few months ago I recieved the most romantic gift...a library ladder! I'm not joshing. To me it was very romantic! You see I have always wished to have a rolling library ladder on rails and the library to go along with it. So when my guy found that the former law office next door to his office was demo-ing out the library and its accoutrements he chased the ladder down to the salvage yard to aquire it for me... umm us. So now we have a gorgeous ladder along with the beautiful brass rails. Used, but I think they are even more charming because of the patina. Library ladder via 1st Dibs.com Our ladder is similar to this one but with brass casters. Before I became a permanent fixture around here the idea was to take out the ceiling in the living room to expose the beams. There is also a peaked roofline over the front porch. His plan is to open that up as well creating a small loft or reading garret. So the acquisition of the ladder provides the perfect way to access this future little room as well. Of course we will be adding some tall built-in bookshelves to further utilize the ladder. Library ladder via 1stdibs.com
BATHS ARE THE BEST! The years I spent living in dorms I was much more upset about my lack of bathtub than about my inability to have pets, or my inability to make out with my boyfriend in peace, or my inability to afford anything. All I wanted most of the time was a nice bath. Happily, I've never NOT had a tub since leaving school -- and the tub I have now is very, very deep. But that doesn't mean I can't fantasize about the best part of my home; I like the cut of these tubs' jib.
With a little bit of TLC, this house would be a dream for me. Perfect location and impressive features.
These stunning bedrooms, from French furniture company Roche Bobois, should be enough to inspire anyone's relaxation space, with modern, utilitarian, or traditional chateau styles.
