“Treasures are hidden away in quiet places. They speak in soft tones and often become silenced as we approach. They don’t beg to be found, but embrace us if we do happen to find them. They are the product of completely ordinary circumstances unfolding in wonderfully extraordinary ways. They are found hidden in the nooks and crannies of our existence; all around us if we quit allowing our attention to be captivated by that which is noisy and listen for that which is quiet and still.”― Craig D. Lounsbrough I acquired this years ago directly from the artist, Gwendolyn Fass, who was known personally by me and used to reside here in Ocala, Florida. Ms. Fass passed at the age of 85 years old, having painted this in her youth. Born in 1934 here in the US, she painted this sometime in the 1950's or 60's. She drew inspiration from her travels throughout Germany and Europe, being of German descent herself. She had the keen insight to include the "History of Art" book into the painting itself, along with red wine in a glass and etched decanter, a burning candle and green velvet curtain. It is an old world, classic inspired piece, perhaps a collage of her favorite things. Elaborate hand carved Black Forest frame is in exceptional condition, and is very sound and sturdy. Excellent vintage condition with a bit of dust in crevices of frame, a tiny pinpoint / speck of paint loss on canvas near top in green curtain. Matting is ivory linen. Hangs by wire hanger on reverse. Sight size is 23" x 19 1/2", framed size is 32 1/2" x 27 1/4". Perfect for a music room or library. Complete with Certificate of Authenticity.
