Evan - 𝗠𝘆 𝟮𝟬𝟮𝟬 𝗠𝗮𝗿𝗸𝗲𝘁 𝗖𝗿𝗮𝘀𝗵 𝗘𝘅𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 Five years ago, on March 13, 2020, just as the world was bracing for the full impact of the COVID-19 pandemic, I made my first investment in a U.S. Equity Index Fund tracking the S&P 500. I had no idea what the future held, but I knew one thing—I wanted to start putting my money to work. 🚀 Since then, I’ve kept buying units of that fund every payday (those green dots you see on the chart), except for a few months when I decided to invest in individual stocks instead. I still remember that week before March 23, 2020 (the day the UK announced its lockdown). I was working night shifts during that week. My phone kept buzzing with buy alerts—stocks on my watchlist were hitting my target prices one after another. The markets dropped like a rock, and there was blood in the stock market streets. At that time, I was still focused on the Philippine Stock Market and hadn’t fully explored the U.S. or UK markets. In fact, this UK Vanguard Equity Index Fund was my very first exposure to international investing. I was still lucky with that drop, you know why? One of my biggest bets during that crash wasn’t even in the U.S. market. It was Manila Electric Company (Meralco)—the largest power distributor in the Philippines. Between March 10 and March 20, 2020, I was buying Meralco shares almost daily as the price kept tanking. It felt like a free fall, and it was nerve-wracking (yet, somehow I also felt elated at the same time 😂). At its lowest, Meralco dropped around ₱ 190 per share. Today? It’s trading at around ₱500 per share—a 2.5x increase. My average cost? ₱247 per share. Not bad, right? In fact, my Meralco investment has even outperformed the S&P 500 index since 2020 (dividends included). ✨The Takeaway? Never let a good crisis go to waste. The best returns are always during these times. I know market downturns can feel terrifying, but they also bring opportunities—if you’re prepared by having cash on the sidelines, and have built your financial base. You don’t need to time the market perfectly. You just need to stay invested, keep learning, and understand how different economic, political, environmental, and social factors influence market movements. Index funds and ETFs are the easiest way to grow our hard-earned money. They don’t require constant monitoring, and they give us exposure to the best companies in the world. At the end of the day, your money should be working just as hard as you do. Start now, stay the course, learn, and explore. 😄 🍀 www.elmads.com 🍀 #COVID19Pandemic #stockmarketcrash #experience #story #Investing #investing101 #investingforbeginners #stockmarketinvesting #stockmarket #buildwealth #wealthaccumulation #knowledgeandpatience #elmads
