The seal is a beautiful visual summary of the faith which is common to Christians of every place and time. Luther explained the meaning of his design in a letter to Lazarus Spengler, July 8, 1530 [WA Br 5:445]; tr. P. T. McCain I used Adobe Illustrator to create my rendition of Luther’s concept. I added a purple banner, “It's all about Jesus” to emphasize Biblical doctrine that “nothing we do” achieves salvation which is only in Christ. The traditional role of purple used by liturgical congregations during Lent reminds Christians of their daily need to humbly seek to live a life of repentance. “And they clothed him in a purple cloak, and twisting together a crown of thorns, they put it on him.”—Mark 15:17 ESV. Four words in the gold ring explain Martin Luther’s teaching which can be summarized: Grace alone, Faith alone, Word (Scripture) alone, Christ (Truth) alone. Black Cross The first should be a black cross in a heart, which retains its natural color, so that I myself would be reminded that faith in the Crucified saves us. For one who believes from the heart will be justified”. Although it is indeed a black cross, which mortifies and which should also cause pain, it leaves the heart in its natural color. It does not corrupt nature, that is, it does not kill but keeps alive. “The just shall live by faith” but by faith in the crucified. Red Heart The heart is red because Jesus shed His blood for us so that we may live. He saves us by grace through faith. White Rose Such a heart should stand in the middle of a white rose, to show that faith gives joy, comfort, and peace. In other words, it places the believer into a white, joyous rose, for this faith does not give peace and joy like the world gives. That is why the rose should be white and not red, for white is the color of the spirits and the angels. Blue Background Such a rose should stand in a sky-blue field, symbolizing that such joy in spirit and faith is a beginning of the heavenly future joy, which begins already, but is grasped in hope, not yet revealed. Gold Circle Around the blue field is a golden ring, symbolizing that such blessedness in Heaven lasts forever and has no end. Such blessedness is exquisite, beyond all joy and goods, just as gold is the most valuable, most precious and best metal. Purple Banner Purple represents repentance as we daily turn from our sin and trust in Christ. Green Leaves Five green leaves remind us of God’s wonderful creation! New life through the Spirit of Christ comes to us in Baptism. Trusting His Word, we grow in faith. Last weekend I sat in my sunlit loft with my friend Corinne and told her what I had read about some people believing that whales carry the Akashic records, which are thought to be our collective human memory. She paused and said, “That’s so interesting even just scientifically because whales absorb the carbon in the ocean. They can store more of it than trees.” Her arms reached up over her head when she said it - as if she were making room for possibility. The idea of whales absorbing both carbon and memory became a metaphor that bloomed between us while we sat in the morning light, still in our PJs, and traveled with us all the way up the highway to a nearby coastal town.

Love Sucks Tired of hearing about how ‘love is all you need’ and that ‘love will conquer all’? Does the idea of balloons, love hearts, boxes of chocolates and birds suddenly appearing make your teeth ache with the sickly saccharine clichéd insanity? How about some real talk? It’s all a farce. Love sucks. As Charles Bukowski said, ‘If there are junk yards in hell, love is the dog that guards the gates.’ The reality is, love is a madness that makes fools of all of us, and we’re better off without it. Whether you’re broken-hearted or just wise to the idiocy of love, know that you’re not alone. Love Sucks is a gorgeously illustrated collection of funny, bitter and brutally truthful quotes about how truly terrible love is, from music, film, TV, literature and history’s greatest and most jaded minds.

When I'm trying to get a good view, usually it involves a long hike up a mountain in order to get to a higher perspective where then suddenly I can see for miles. Seeing the 'bigger picture' in life is no different. Sometime you need to put in a little effort, in order to change your perspective, so that you can see things more clearly from a distance. If this makes sense in concept, great ! But putting words into action isn't always easy. Those who master seeing and thinking with-in the context of the 'bigger picture' understand that it can be massively beneficial to your health, mental wellbeing, and success.
Some condemn viewing pornography and others defend it. Some think it’s all right if it doesn’t lead to sexually immoral acts. Would you like to know how God feels?
