Kahlua is a cozy cardigan featuring simple texture, rib, and cable detail in a gorgeous, squishy yarn. The kniting is easy, but it’s how the elements are paired that makes the design interesting. The bold lines and texture are perfect to showcase the lovely halo and subtle heather of this gorgeous, cozy Hinterland Range yarn. Range is a wonderfully soft, round fiber with just a touch of drape to it, made from 50% Alpaca from Hinterland’s own farm and 50% Canadian Rambouillet wool, sourced up in Canada. Transitions between garter stitch, reverse stockinette, and single ribs play off each other distinctly, and bold braids along each side of the body contrast with the textures happening around them. The sweater fronts are worked around the shoulders to create a beautiful, slouchy collar that results in horizontal lines that play off the vertical detail on the body. It’s all quite easy, but purposefully placed to work together. A short length and boxy fit also keep this modern and fun, but it’s easy to modify for length or width if desired and notes are in the pattern. Construction: Kahlua is worked from the bottom up. Body is worked flat and sleeves are knit in the round. Pieces are joined at the yoke and shaped seamlessly to shoulders. Once body is complete, the fronts are continued and joined at center back to create the collar. Anisah is a contemporary shawl featuring a textured cable and lace panel surrounded by classic garter stitch. The asymmetrical triangular shaping begins with just a few stitches which then flow into a wide panel composed of a graceful cable flanked by mesh lace. While that panel forms the left edge of the shawl, the remainder of the body is filled with squishy garter goodness. The combination of lace, cables, reverse stockinette and garter stitch knitted in worsted weight makes the texture of all the various design elements really pop. I love to design shawls which are especially appropriate for social knitting. Anisah has no pattern repeats, has a simple 8-row chart repeat, and once you get past the early charts which set up the wide panel and body, you’ll have everything memorized in no time. I named the shawl Anisah—which is an Arabic name meaning “good friend”—as a nod to the wonderful friendships that result from knitters bonding over a shared love of our craft. Anisah is also an excellent pattern for adventuresome beginners to try their hand at simple lace, cables and triangular shaping. Plus it’s a fun and fast knit for more experienced knitters looking for a relaxing TV knit. Worked in worsted weight, it knits up in no time even at the generous pattern size. So you still have time to knock one out for warm and snuggly holiday gifting this year! The Anisah pattern includes both charts and full written out instructions for those of who you prefer not to use charts. While dimensions and yardage are provided for worsted weight, Anisah could effectively be worked in other yarn weights, although sport weight or heavier is recommended to show off the texture to its best advantage. Also included are detailed blocking instructions. SIZE AND YARDAGE: My lilac sample shawl pictured used about 540 yards (494 m) and measures 63 x 27” (160 x 69 cm) relaxed after blocking. Test knitted shawls used between 540-590 yards (494-540 m) on US Size 8 (5.0 mm) needles. Note that the US Size 10 (6.0 mm) is used for the bind off only. The size is easy to customize by changing the number of Chart 4 repeats; full instructions are provided, including how to calculate stitch counts for any size. The yellow green shawl (worked in Hazel Knits Cadence, “Sedge” colorway) and the deep aqua (worked in Hazel Knits Cadence, “Laguna” colorway) are slightly larger versions, both having 2 extra repeats of Chart 4 for a total of 28 repeats. Both of these versions used about 600 yards (549 m).

The pattern contains two sizes of the Dreambird, one for women and another one for little girls. INCLUDED are TRADITIONAL row by row descriptions for both sizes and DIAGRAMS for those who prefer a visual approach. The OPTIONAL written instructions are meant for those of you who want explanations or are interested in how I approached the project. The step photos for the Minibird although different in numbers are also a support while you are in the knitting process. The different approaches work independently from each other; so if the wording bothers you just leave it aside. It is essential though to read the general part about short rows if you are not familiar with them. The coloring has been completely achieved by short rows. It is also possible to use all three approaches as a support. The English version has been tech edited by MHM . So if you are interested in the pattern don’t let yourself get confused by the first part of the former KAL or older notes on projects’ pages. I had the Kingfisher before my eyes when I did this but there are no limits of what you can do, hence the name Dreambird! Dreambird looks more complicated than it is. The shaping is done by short rows and I explained everything in detail so that you don’t need to be an advanced knitter to knit this piece. As in the wingspan , the drive of the shawl is attained by offset triangles. Additional elements transform the triangles to feathers. Maylin, the creator of the Wingspan, authorized this version before I even started knitting. You can knit the feathers with a yarn of rather long color changes or use up your stash, it is up to you! The fluffy Kid Mohair in the background emphasizes the feathers.
