This 'cool' all about me cell phone art and writing activity is ideal for the first week back to school. Kids love cell phones and technology and respond enthusiastically to this creative activity. Teachers can learn more about new students in a fun way, and students can share about themselves with their peers. Construct a fold-out booklet-style 'art-phone', and respond to image-making prompts on the front cover and the written elements inside. Ideal for use as a back-to-school icebreaker and community-building activity. Please click the Preview Button above to learn more. 1. The front cover of the cell phone activity: Invite students to respond to and illustrate the 9 questions or prompts, with thumbnail doodles or drawings: • Age • My family • Best food • Favorite animal • Favorite color • Best subject • Dream destination • I love... • I don't like.... 2. The fold-out inside pages: ’Let's Chat', is designed in a text message style, and asks more investigative questions: • How will you achieve your goals? • What support do you need? • What do you like most about school? • What do you like least about school? ’More About Me’, prompts the following: • My top 3 goals • 5 fascinating facts about me • People like me because • Open-ended questions to complete, I aim to… I wonder if…I imagine that…. I feel…. Please note this activity includes 2 sizes of art-phone templates to choose from: 1. smartphone size 3.7x7.3 inches 2. tablet size 5 x 10 inches Students can also opt to do the one-dimensional cover or the full fold-out option with written responses, depending on time available, age and ability Templates with UK/CAN/NZ/AUS spellings for 'favourite and colour" templates are also included in the pack What materials are needed? • Use card stock for best results - the phones will be more robust! • Scissors and glue stick • Pens/pencils/colored markers for the artwork and written work • These templates are designed to print on US letter/A4 size paper Considerations and how to use this activity: • Encourage students to move beyond words, and 'draw their answers' • Consider the space around the images they draw • How do the 9 images look collectively? • Is there an emerging theme or style or color? • What colors do we associate with words? eg carrot: orange and green • How do students feel about the first week back to school? • It’s OK to express dislikes as well as likes, our fears along with our hopes The completed phones slip comfortably into a back pocket for play. Peg them up collectively as a classroom banner or decorate a wall, door, or your bulletin board Further activities included in the packet: 1. All About Usbanner 2. Hello Friends! Besides working on the set up in my classroom, I am also thinking about the first few weeks of school. My kiddos drop in before school starts and besides giving them a special gift from me, I also ask them to fill out an "All About Me" poster that they take home and fill out with their parents. There are several types that can be purchased and I HAVE purchased them. The problem I have with some of the purchased ones is that they are too large and have too much information on them for a kinder to fill out. I like to display these in the hallway for our Open House and the poster sized ones just take up too much room. So.... I created a one page 8 1/2" x 11" poster that is easy for little ones to do. I have a variety of 12" x 12" scrapbook paper available for them to choose from. I staple the poster to the scrapbook paper and send it home. Adding the poster to the scrapbook paper creates more space for those that want to do more such as adding photographs. To access this free poster, click the image above or below. This is a Google doc download. If your school does not allow downloads from outside your network, you will have to download at home. I also like to do an "All About Me" book with my kinders at the start of the year. But just as with the posters, I have found many "Me" books to be overwhelming to little ones just beginning school. So I have them do a simple "All About Me" book that is easy for them to finish and also continues the tradition of having a beginning of the year keepsake. Find this simple book by clicking the image above or below. Until next time! Blessings,

Photo Source: Learning and Teaching Preschoolers Get to know the new kiddos in your class with All About Me activities - perfect for back-to-school! Tami over at Learning and Teaching Preschoolers featured several ideas your class is sure to love. Each activity provides a great opportunity for the kids to get to know each other as well! All About Me Posters Trace an outline of each student onto white butcher paper. Then allow them to begin completing the drawing of themselves with crayons or markers. Photo Source: Learning and Teaching Preschoolers Once your students have had a chance to add in the basics (clothes, face, hair, etc.), roll the posters up and send them home with students with a letter asking families to help complete. Ask them to help their child 'come-to-life' with little extras (one family added tissue paper to create a skirt) and to add little notes around the sides that describe their child (what do they enjoy eating, playing with, etc.). Photo Source: Learning and Teaching Preschoolers Give the families a couple days to complete the posters and then have your students bring them back for a show and tell. Allow each student time to explain what they added to the poster and why. A great chance to get to know your student's likes and dislikes! All About Me Self Portrait Provide each of your kiddos with a small mirror, drawing paper and markers or crayons and ask them to complete a self portrait. You should be able to find relatively cheap mirrors at your local dollar or big box store. When they're finished, hang their completed works of art with a clever saying (something like "Mrs. _______'s Superstars"). Photo Source: Learning and Teaching Preschoolers Photo Source: Learning and Teaching Preschoolers All About Me Feelings Graph Take a poll of how your students are feeling on the first day of school and create a graph. It would be a cute idea to take the same poll after a week (when students are more comfortable) and compare the results together! Social media is becoming more and more popular with our kids! They will really "connect" with this fun "All About Me" worksheet. It's a great activity for all age groups and will help your students learn more about each other. Your students can share a little about themselves with the phone on the left, #all about me, and the phone on the right, #selfie, lets your students be creative and draw a picture of themselves. For your older students you can have them bring in a picture to paste on the phone instead of drawing a picture. Either way these worksheets will look great once they're completed and hung up around the classroom!

This is my favorite back to school activity. My two oldest are so excited for school to start this year. We go to a year-round school, which starts much earlier than traditional school, so we are getting ready to go back and it's only the first week of July! This year I wanted to do something I saw so many moms do last year - give my kids a survey right before their first day of school to document their lives at this point in time. I think it will be so special to keep these and show them to my kids when they are older. Cute

This is simple for Preschoolers to fill out. For best results, use as many pictures as possible so they can "read" it themselves. I back the page with construction paper in their favorite color. Then I laminate them and bind them into a class book. This is their favorite class book.
SUMMER IS HERE!!! WOOHOO!!! I finally made it and let me tell you- it. feels. GREAT! Before we let out for summer break one of our last activities we did was our "Me Books". The Me Book is an all-about-me book where the child writes their names, favorite animal, favorite color, about their best friend, their family, what they want to be when they grow up, etc. It takes a lot of hard work but looks fantastic in the end! It is a great way to show off how far their writing has come over the past year. Here are some pictures of our "Me Books" It ends with this adorable poem. I did not put pictures of all the pages up, just a few. you can create your own pages based on what you want. In our class we had a friend trace our feet and hands and then we had to cut them out and glue them into our book. The outside of our book is a construction paper body with arms that wrap around the front of the book when it is closed. I had them draw their own eyes (correct eye color) and they got to make their own hair out of contrsuction paper and glue it on.

Item description All About Me Apple Tree Craft We use this activity during the very first week of school. Every student makes an About Me Apple Tree to share with the class, so we could learn a little about each other. I make one too. The apples can be copied onto red, golden, yellow, or green paper to provide variety. I let the kids use markers (even though it is early in the year), so it’s good to have a lot of extra apples for mistakes. They can write words or draw pictures on each apple. I provide each student with one “I am” apple for their age and three or four “I like” apples. You can also choose to have students draw themselves on the tree trunk. There is a blank trunk template provided. This Activity is Part of a Bundle Craftivity Growing Bundle This cutting, pasting, and writing craftivity is perfect for preK and kindergarten students. It requires good fine motor cutting skills and the ability to assemble. Enjoy!
