Daitokuji is one of my favorite temple complexes in Japan. It’s a world of Zen temples and sublime gardens, consisting of 24 subtemples. Today, I’ve visited Ryogen-in, Obai-in, Zuiho-in and Koto-in. Koto-in was esstablished in 1601 at the behest of the famed military leader Hosokawa Tadaoki (1563-1645). It is one of the most popular subtemples, particularly in autumn. I waited for this picture, with no one on the path, for about 45 minutes... Sorry, today I won't comment any of your pictures. This hotel's internet connection is really trying. I've checked the cables, shut down and started up about three times, changed the pop-up blocker settings, ... anything my feminine intuition told me to do. This place was pretty far off the usual beaten path but I was glad to find it! In Kyoto, there is a wonderful and unexpected temple that weaves through an old bamboo forest. It weaves up, down, and around hills with warm, calming bamboo swaying about. Here and there, little temples, urns, and benches are placed. Everything is delicately lit to add to the mood.
