Jean Pouyat pillow vase from Limoges, France. Signed Jean Pouyat stamped in a circle at the bottom of the vase as can be seen in picture 5. Made in Limoges, France between the 1890's to 1930's, this ornate pillow vase is elegantly gold gilded at the top on the handles and at the bottom of the vase as can be seen in the pictures. This vase is considered in excellent condition, with the usual wear due to its age. But no visible scratches, chips or dents. The image on both the front and back of the vase has flowers and two birds hand-painted in brown and pink colors. As with any good Jean Pouyat Limoges piece, the vase is hand-painted. The Pouyat family was one of the oldest French names connected with the Limoges porcelain industry. Jean Pouyat’s grandfather had a faience factory in the 1760's at St. Yrieix. He also owned KAaolin factory in the area in the late 1700's. Jean’s father, François, operated a hard paste porcelain factory in Paris from the early 1800's until around 1840. Jean Pouyat established a company circa 1842 at Limoges. Jean died in 1849, and the business was carried on by his son. About 1883, the company became known as La Céramique. The Pouyat and William Guérin companies were joined in 1912. So Jean Pouyat pieces date from the 1890's to the 1930's. We speculate that this piece in particular dates to about the 1920's. It is an example of French Victorian artisan excellence at it's best. It is stamped "J.P. France" at the bottom of the vase, with some of it wearing off. It is gorgeous and one-of-a-kind. Just like our shop! This Limoges pillow vase makes a precious family heirloom, a breathtaking wedding gift, a birthday gift, a mother's day gift, a housewarming gift, or a gift for the finest collectors of antique art and collectibles. This piece truly is a collectible item. The vase measures about 11" tall, 7.5" wide and 3.25" deep. It is made from porcelain and hand-painted. At the body of the vase, it measures 3.25" long X 2.5" wide. We aim to please all of our customers and bring them the most unique and valued treasures, no matter what the item may be.
