The spectacularly located Perranporth Airfield was built as an RAF fighter base in WW2. When I was about to take off from here, I bumped into an elderly lady with her daughter. It turned out that the former had been based here in the war and that she was visiting the airfield for the first time in over 70 years. We chatted for a while and I asked her if she'd like to go up for a flight. She thought about it .... looked at her daughter .... and politely declined. She had to make a doctor's appointment that afternoon.
