The FK63 Bookcase System was designed by Preben Fabricius and Jørgen Kastholm in 1963. The design is a result of a shared interest in functionally minimalist designs that focus on proportion, handcrafted details, and natural materials. Perfect for idiosyncratic displays of functional and aesthetic objects, the FK63 Bookcase System is crafted in FSC®-certified oak in an oiled oak or white oiled oak finish, accentuating the natural texture of the wood. It features thoughtful joinery details including full-width cabinets fitted with brass handles and open shelves with optional sliding trays––both of which are customizable––to accommodate growing collections. FK63 comes in wall-mounted and standalone versions. The floor-standing versions rest on a slender powder-coated metal frame. Piet Hein Eek (1967) graduated from the Design Academy in Eindhoven (NL) in 1990 with his classic scrap wood cupboard. The most significant factor in Eek's career has been the creation of a world that embodies the entire process, from idea to consumer. This has proved to be an exceptional way of producing since it is quite rare to both design and produce furniture 'under the same roof' in countries with high labour costs. Each product is designed with a focus on the material, techniques and craftsmanship required to make it. In 2010, Piet Hein Eek moved his company from Geldrop to a former Philips factory in Eindhoven. The most important part of the company is the production facility (wood, metal, ceramics upholstery and cartonnage) which is located in the heart of the building. The transparency of the building gives visitors insight into the whole production process. The concept of offering a total experience starts with the showroom and the production processes but also includes a restaurant, an art gallery, rented studios, a chip shop, a hairdresser and from October 2020 there will also be a hotel. Eek has worked together with architect Iggie Dekkers since 2015, designing a range of houses and undertaking architectural redevelopments and other construction projects. Eek has created his own world which has developed into an important cultural hub in the city of Eindhoven; a dynamic centre where creativity, production and sales go hand in hand.

This is an original 1950s shop haberdashery counter made in Birmingham England by Harris and Sheldon Ltd. The large oak haberdashery counter has glass top, sides and front with oak beading around the edges. There are five banks of drawers with five cascading drawers on each bank - small drawers on top gradually getting bigger for the bottom. The joinery outside and inside the drawers is intricate and a real feature. All the handles are intact and beautifully made with bakelite inserts. The oak has a lovely colour and patina, showing character from years of use. The drawers are clean inside. The vintage haberdashery counter would make a delightful addition to any shop or it could be used as a centre piece in a dressing room at a private home. It provides plenty of storage with drawers at 33cm wide, small drawers at 36cm deep and the largest ones at 56cm deep.

Wooden Bookcase Shelving Unit. Lightweight, sturdy and compact this shelving unit is crafted from solid premium grade pine and divided into various shaped segments for holding books, decorative items and ornaments. The central shelves are slightly wider than the frame and will span skirting boards to sit flush against a wall. Compact dimensions make the unit ideal for tighter spaces and it can be placed both vertically or horizontally. It also works well in multiples and can stand side by side on a wall, flank a sofa or sit in alcoves. All you have to decide is what finish and where to put it?. Handmade by me in my workshop using mortise and tenon joinery and available in a variety of colours that retain pines distinctive grain patterns; including turquoise and red for those that like a splash of colour. Each board is treated with a light coat of natural resin shellac prior to a traditional wax finish. The shellac seals the wood allowing the wax to enhance the grain, protect the surface and leave lovely a subtle sheen. All of my furniture arrives fully built and ready to use straight away. The pictures show natural pine, medium and red. ------------------ DIMENSIONS: H - 1005mm W - 565mm D - 192mm Have a different size or colour in mind?. That is changing and it is again being used for contemporary furniture. Because of its light colour, pine furniture fits in well with other furnishings in the home. It has a versatile look that pairs well with various wall colours and patterns and reinforces the feeling of space. Pine has a prominent, distinctive grain and can be stained to almost any colour if light wood isn't to your taste. LESS ENVIRONMENTAL IMPACT: Because pine trees grow relatively quickly, the trees that are cut down are soon replaced. Pine trees grow well on plantations and managed forests with little impact on natural habitats. All the pine i use is FSE certified to help promote responsible management of the world's forests. I have done my best to accurately represent the colours but can not guarantee an exact match as all screens vary in their display of colour. Small amounts of wood movement can occur due to environmental changes - this is considered during the design and manufacturing process and all the wood i use is kiln dried to minimise this natural occurrence.
