French artist says he will invite Naomi Campbell to school in Paris to help him teach 12 budding photographers
It started in a bourgeois neighborhood in Paris about seven years ago when larger than life portraits of “thugs” were pasted up on the sides of buildings, on bus stops and billboards. It was called so because he used a 28 millimetre lens to take the photographs, meaning he was less than a foot away from his subjects. It wasn’t long before this that JR became interested in photography at all. And it started simply because he stumbled upon a camera abandoned on the Metro. Photo: Screenshot from TED video The theme stuck. A “photograffeur” (as he calls himself – a mix of photographer and graffiti artist), JR made a name for himself over the years that followed (those he has chosen to keep his real identity anonymous as it makes it easier for him to travel). This project introduced him to the various communities of Houston such as the Fourth Ward, Fifth Ward, Trinity Garden and the Hispanic neighborhoods. Earlie Hudnall's photographs have been included in a traveling exhibition organized by the Smithsonian Museum of American Art, African American Art: Harlem Renaissance, Civil Rights Era and Beyond. The exhibition catalog features Earlie's photograph, Looking Out, on the back cover. His photographs are in major museum collections including the Amon Carter Museum of American Art, Chicago Art Institute, National Museum of American Art, Museum of Fine Arts, Houston, Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago, and the Virginia Museum of Fine Art.

French artist JR just unveiled a new work in progress at the US/Mexico border. The large photographic piece depicts a child peering over a border fence from the Mexican side, apparently in reference to Trump’s effort to rescind the DACA program which protects the children of undocumented immigrants from being deported. The artist is known for his towering photographic installations backed by scaffolding such as his pieces at the Louvre and the Rio Olympics. More
