From Russia's Freezelight comes one of the most beautiful uses of long exposure I've ever seen (that is, aside from all of your slow shutter shooting challenge submissions). It's honestly just wow.

In late 2010 this beautiful Parisian apartment saw the first rays on sunshine in over 70 years. Once its window shutters had been opened, a 70-year old, cog-webbed time capsule unveiled a magical place where time literally have stood still. Under a...
Heavily inspired by blocks that I know Lynne likes, I drafted this pattern. that was one accomplishment. Actually figuring out how to make it was another. Lynne I ended up using all my own fabric except for the white. I needed bigger pieces...hope that is alright. I tried to match the colors of the fabric you sent me. blogged
I've been writing on this site for a while now, and I've put together a lot of good content, but the trouble is that a lot of it can be hard to find, especially if you don't know what you're looking for. This post will walk you though everything that a beginner in photography should learn, and in the order that they're supposed to learn it. Welcome to my 100th post.
If you have recently bought a DSLR or mirrorless camera, or are thinking of doing so in the near future, you are probably interested in doing more than just pointing and shooting with it on Automatic mode.
drab cart: Hi all, I've just joined the group and was looking for a bit of advice. I'm heading to my local agility club to take photos of their (outdoor) training sessions soon, and was wondering if anyone could share any advice for achieving successful shots. I'm used to photographing horses in action so I know what's required with regards to aperture/shutter speed/ISO etc, but I'm unsure which focussing technique would be most effective as dogs are a lot quicker than horses! 1- Use AiServo and pan with the dog 2 - Pre-focus and then pan (with tripod) 3 - Pre-focus and go for a static shot Also, with regards to pre-focussing, those of you who've shot dogs in flight over obstacles - where (roughly) do you find it best to focus? I know focussing on the jump itself will not be effective, but roughly how far in front (e.g. "a foot/6 inches etcetc for large dogs") of the obstacle would you focus to ensure the dog (eg over a 45degree angle shot over a plain jump) will be sharp? Finally, are there any preffered angles when it comes to shooting agility - that is, do owners appear to prefer head-on, 45degree or side-on views of their dogs over obstacles? I know experience and trial-and-error will be the best thing for learning, but the more advice I can get beforehand, the better. I hope some of you can help, apologies for the amount of questions! Keep up the great work! Laura xxx
