Recently, I wrote about employees as brand ambassadors and how they can help – or hurt – an organization's global and social brand. It depends on how well the lines between personal brand and company brand are drawn. Once a company and leadership has the brand issue sorted out, it’s time [...]

My little ones and I have been having a blast together! We are loving and learning like crazy. I always start the first few weeks with a TON of bonding activities to help students get to know each other and form loving relationships. The classroom climate is THE most important thing to focus on (in my opinion) to have a successful year together! Teaching my kiddos to have empathy and treat one another with kindness and respect is first thing! When I saw this perfect idea on Cara's wonderful blog "The First Grade Parade", I knew I had to make it my own and do it with my tiny tots. We began by reading the story Chrysanthemum by Kevin Henkes. I explained that we were going to read a story that shows how very important it is to treat one another with love and kindness. I held up a large heart cut-out and explained that each of us has a heart and our heart's hold all of the good feelings and love that we have. We were pretending that the heart was Chrysanthemum's heart. As we read the story, the kid's passed it around and every time someone said something hurtful to Chrysanthemum, we crumbled her heart a little more. This showed how our hearts are feeling when we get our feelings hurt. At the end of the story, the other characters say much nicer things to Chrysanthemum. The littles tried to smoother her heart back out now that she was getting some love back, but the damage was done and they quickly noticed that her heart did not look perfect. They realized that it is quite hard to fix a wrinkled heart, no matter how hard they tried! The moral of the activity was that the words they say to each other can leave hearts feeling sad long after we say them. We worked to heal her heart by bandaging it up! We glued the cute poem in the center as a reminder to choose our words carefully. I also made little bracelets for them to wear! I used strips of black construction paper as the bands :) We hung up the heart in our room as a reminder! You can download the heart poem and bracelets for FREE by clicking below! Hope you are having a relaxing weekend :) XO

I have been busy, busy, busy- but with everything but blogging. Work has been busy, life has been busy and I have not been able to pull together any fun posts. This past weekend instead of baking and taking pictures- I was playing with two cuties who might respond to the names cake butt and pie. They were exceptionally cute. My heart just needs some twin time every now and then. I truly cannot wait until it warms up and the days are longer. I find it impossible to photograph anything at home unless it is on the weekend. By the time I get home from work, all sunlight is gone. I need some photography pointers from some mid westerners like me who struggle with lighting in the early evening. So, instead of me sharing food or treats, I am going to share laughter and smiles. Here are some goodies that make me smile. Enjoy and I will see you soon. I really do believe in public service.... I am a social worker remember. I practically work for free.... This is me. I am telling you that if you call me and I have come home and put on my "comfy" pants, there is little that will convince me to leave my house. Yep.... enough said. I need this. Last time I checked the local gym did not offer cupcakes. This is me. I can be a bit sassy sometimes. Okay- I can hear my family snorting right now. I am a lot sassy. And I leave you all with happy thoughts, gummy bears and unicorns. Have a fabulous Friday everyone! Marci

Oh my goodness. I am beyond excited about this. I recently received my copy of the AMAZING "The Naughty Leprechaun" story by Stephanie Hicks. Have you ever heard of this?! It is fabulous. Let me tell you a bit about it! This is an adorable tradition to do with your littles each year. The Naughty Leprechaun tells the story of 2 leprechauns named Liam and Leyland. One of the brothers is a naughty fellow, while his twin brother is always making the right choices! Your kids will get to decide which of the twins they would like to visit them for the 3 nights leading up to St. Patrick's Day! If they get a visit from Liam, they will find treats the next day. If they get a visit from Leyland, there will be mischief waiting for them :) They need to make good choices to have a visit from one of the brothers, or else it will be left up to chance! The whole story and the pictures are seriously adorable. With whimsical illustrations and a creative story, this activity totally reminds me of the elf fun we have around Christmas, and it comes at a time when our kids are getting a bit cray-cray and we could use it! I cannot wait to do this with my littles this year! EEK! Take a look at the awesomeness I opened! So now for the super exciting GIVEAWAY news! Stephanie has been so kind to offer me a copy of "The Naughty Leprechaun" to give to one of my lucky followers! Enter below for your chance to win! a Rafflecopter giveaway GOOD LUCK (hehe) EVERYONE! This weekend I embarked on a quest to slow down, re-evaluate my parenting style and reflect on what is best for my children. I read this inspiring post by Serene Journey that was timed just perfectly: Show Your Kids You Love Them. Serene Journey is one of my favorite blogs to read and she has a sixth sense of posting inspiring blogs exactly when I need them! Since school begun about month ago Ethan has began testing our limits at home. In kindergarten he is learning about rewards and consequences based on his behavior. So, I decided to look into behavior charts. Charts make sense to kids and they take pride in a page full of stars or stickers showing their good behavior. After some research, here are the charts we put in place ... Behavior Chart Behavior Chart Reward Cards Strike 3 Chart Chore Chart Here are blank charts I created for you to download and use for your personal use if you'd like: Behavior Chart Behavior Chart Reward Cards - These reward cards show activities they can choose based on the number of happy faces they receive for the week. Strike 3 Chart - I felt it was important to also have a chart for behaviors that are just not letting up so, I created a Strike 3 Chart. After the 3rd strike a negative consequence will occur. the goal here is to help them recognize and change their bad behavior before it gets to 3 strikes. Daily Chores Chart I found this article on About.com very helpful when working on my charts: Charts & Chips - Using A Behavior Modification System With Your Child. I know a big part of our kids behaviors are directly related to us as parents and how we behave and react. Being consistent with our discipline, keeping our cool, accentuating the positives and showing our kids we love them are important things to remember to do each and every day. It's so easy to fall back into a "No, No, No" routine and forget about giving positive re-enforcement, encouragement and the ability to make their own choices. I know this all to well. Our action plan: Throughout the day we give stars as chores are completed and every night before bed we review the behavior chart together and we reward happy faces for the day. I have already seen that the boys find these new behavior charts empowering and they help keep me and Bert on track with consistent, positive discipline. Do you have any tips that help keep you on track and your kids eager to behave?
