Portrait of Pierre-Auguste Renoir 1867 by Frédéric Bazille An innovative artist, Pierre-Auguste Renoir was born on February 25, 1841, in Limoges, France. He started out as an apprentice to a porcelain painter and studied drawing in his free time. After years as a struggling painter, Renoir helped launch an artistic movement called Impressionism in the 1870s. He eventually became one of the most highly regarded artists of his time. He died in Cagnes-sur-Mer, France, in 1919. For earlier works see parts 1 and 2 also. This is part 3 of a 30-part series on the works of Renoir: 1874 Regatta at Argenteuil oil on canvas 32.4 x 45.7 cm National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC 1874 Sailboats at Argenteuil oil on canvas Portland Art Museum,Oregon 1874 The Dancer oil on canvas 142.5 x 94.5 cm National Gallery of Art, Washington, DC 1874 The Fisherman oil on canvas Private Collection 1874 The Garden at Fontenay oil on canvas 62 x 51 cm Oskar Reinhart Collection, Winterthur, Switzerland 1874 The Parisian Girl oil on canvas 163.2 x 108.3 cm National Museum Wales, Cardiff, UK 1874 The Theatre Box ( La Loge ) study oil on canvas Private Collection 1874 The Theatre Box ( La Loge ) oil on canvas 80 x 63.5 cm The Courtauld Gallery, London 1874 Woman in an Armchair oil on canvas 61 x 50.5 cm Detroit Institute of Arts, Michigan 1874 Woman with a Black Dog oil on canvas Private Collection 1874-75 Child with Punch Doll and c1875 Boy with a Toy Soldier.
