Goan churches are well known for a strange amalgamation of Indian and Portuguese architecture .The Church of Our Lady of Immaculate Conception is an imposing construction situated right at the primary square (Church square) of the town. This site is a central place of worship for religious people. The church was constructed in1540AD and underwent resurrection and renovation in 1619AD. The bell within the church is wide and is infact the second biggest bell within Goa. It was actually the bell of the Church of Our Lady Of Grace. The Golden Bell was known as the "Bell of the Inquisition" was moved to the Our Lady Of The Immaculate Conception Church within 1841. The sheer size and grandiose nature of Our Lady Of The Immaculate Conception Church speaks volumes about the influence and the wealth enjoyed by the churches in those times. The Our lady of the Immaculate Conception Church is situated within the centre of the city of Panaji and is a well known landmark. It is one of the oldest churches that were constructed in Goa. At night, the pristine beauty of the church increases manifold. As soon as evening sets in, this huge monument is transformed into a shining and bright display as it is lit up with a lot of low electric bulbs. www.goa.ind.in/churches-of-goa/our-lady-of-the-immaculate...

Available as A3 or A2 print Printed on 300gsm archival quality paperThe piece was created in the summer of 2020 after harsh 6 months and a wave of social media awareness towards Black lives and the injustices we face. Many of us come from other lands our heritage is a beautiful, complex and colourful palette and I wanted to convey a moment of hope or acknowledgment to my fellow kin that we are changing the tide of things (although it is not our responsibility to do so) The collective power means that the winds are changing albeit slowlyIt's a piece based on a known but unnamed figure in a land that is far away but also on our doorstep. Wrapped in a textile blanket that holds comfort and warmth. Sometimes the most powerful images are the ones in which we stand firm and show our beauty (especially in the face of injustice).
