I'm adding a free template that goes with my previous post - the Read It, Build It, Write It Center. I've been using this same center for our weekly SPELLING words, in addition to using it for sight words. With this template you can type in your own spelling words to make cards for this center. If you have this center from Teachers Pay Teachers, just click on the template below to download from Google Docs. Click on the template or click HERE to download this from Google Docs. Once you have DOWNLOADED this (make sure you hit the arrow to download or go to File -> Download to actually download it), click to open the download at the bottom left corner of your screen and it will will open in Word. You may need to click on "Enable Editing" at the top of the page to enter your own spelling words. If you don't have my Read It, Build It, Write It Center, go HERE to find it at Teachers Pay Teachers. Now you can use it for both: Sight Words and Spelling Words.

Teaching shades of meaning and levels of intensity in first grade.
Plural nouns are words that are more than one person, place, or thing. When changing a word from single noun to a plural noun, the spelling of it goes a little haywire! There are many spelling rules that students need to keep in mind when writing or spelling plural nouns. I have 8 Plural Noun Rules that students can learn to help them keep their spelling straight. There are more plural noun rules, but these 8 are the most common for elementary students. Not only will these rules help when writing, but they will help when reading too. Students will be able to see the spelling of the plural words in writing and will understand the meaning better when they understand the spelling. This will make students vocabulary and word recognition go up. Here are the 8 Plural Noun Rules: Plural Noun Rule #1: Add s to form the plural of most nouns. Most nouns just need an "s" added to the word to show that it's plural. Plural Noun Rule #2: Add "es" to nouns that end in ch, sh, s, x, or z. For example, beach=beaches, wish=wishes, dress=dresses, box=boxes, quiz=quizes. Plural Noun Rule #3: Nouns that end in "y", with a consonant before the y, change the y to i and add es. For example: penny=pennies. The letter before the y is a consonant. Therefore, the y changes to an i. Plural Noun Rule #4: Nouns that end in "y", with a vowel before the y, just add s. For example, boy=boys. The letter before the y is a vowel. Therefore, nothing changes and just an "s" is added. Plural Noun Rule #5: Nouns that end in "f" or "fe", change the f or fe to a "v" and add es. For example, elf=elves, loaf=loaves Plural Noun Rule #6: Nouns that end in "o", with a consonant before the o, add es. For example: potato=potatoes. Plural Noun Rule #7: Irregular nouns will change the spelling completely. For example, child=children, mouse=mice, ox=oxen, goose=geese. Plural Noun Rule #8: Some nouns use the singular spelling as the plural spelling. For example: fish=fish, deer=deer Here are the 8 plural noun rules on one sheet! Plus, it's FREE! Click the picture below to download this poster and begin using it today in your classroom or with your students. keep handy in their writing folder. They will be able to refer back to this sheet at any time to help them write plural nouns. I have a pack of worksheets, games, and centers dedicated to plurals. The Plural Pack below has over 61 pages that follow the poster above and work on each rule. Here is what's included in the Plural Pack. Those tricky vowel sounds! Shortly after students learn the letters and sounds of the alphabet we introduce the concept that some letters, when placed together (vowel digraph), make the long vowel sound. For example, when the letters “ai” appear together, they make the long a sound as in the word “snail”. “ay” also makes the […]

A pattern to create a beautiful lap or table top portable finger labyrinth. The classical labyrinth is the oldest known labyrinth design, dating back at to least 1200 BC. Found all over the world and across many cultures, labyrinths are powerful contemplative and transformational tools. Following the path of the labyrinth can be a gateway to a meditative state, supporting personal and spiritual growth. Modern labyrinths are appearing in many health centres, hospitals and nursing homes, to be used as healing tools. The path of a labyrinth twists and turns, but always follows a single route to the centre. This can represent a journey to the centre of our being and subsequent return to the world, creating wholeness and connection within ourselves and our spirit. 'Finger labyrinths', small, portable labyrinths to be traced with a finger, are at least 500 years old, and can be as powerful as walking a full sized labyrinth. Early examples were carved into slate in Cornwall, UK and used by wise women to enter trance-like states. Knitting this pattern will give you a portable labyrinth, the perfect size for spreading across a desk or your lap to ground and centre you at any time. Tactile and fun, it is hard to resist tracing the path of the labyrinth. Finished size approx. 18 inches / 46cm wide and 15.5 inches / 39cm tall using DK yarn and size 5 1/2 needles, but any yarn and needle size can be used to create different sizes of labyrinth. This pattern can be used as it is, or in combination with the Chakra-Vyhua (Indian) labyrinth (see listing in my shop!) to sew together to make a beautiful reversible cushion. Please note: this listing is for a digital download, NOT a knitted item! This pattern will be delivered via email as an attached PDF file to anywhere in the world. To receive patterns in PDF format you will need to have Adobe Reader installed on your computer. This reader is available for free at the Adobe website. Patterns are for personal use only. The pattern cannot be sold, traded, published or handed out to others. The design may not be used to create another pattern for sale. We use Reminder Cards as the basis for our discipline plan. Each Reminder Card displays one of our classroom rules. They are: 1. Please sit crisscross, hands in lap on the carpet. 2. Please sit safely in chairs and on the bus. 3. Please show good character- be kind, polite, honest, and responsible. 4. Please listen carefully when others are talking. 5. Please follow directions the first time they are given. 6. Please keep your hands, feet, and objects to yourself. 7. Please keep your work area and the classroom clean. 8. Please work quietly during independent work time. 9. Please use walking feet and stand properly in line. I make multiple copies of each card, and keep them in pockets on a bulletin board. The students also have pockets on their desks. When a student is having difficulty with a rule, they get a Reminder Card. It is a visual reminder for the rest of the week of what they need to work on. Each Friday, I take time to meet with each child and check their pockets. I keep track of how many cards they have gotten, if any. We talk about how to make better choices. I have found that this discipline works best for us because it is not disruptive to my teaching and forces the kids to think about making good choices. This download includes 9 Reminder Cards. Each card has words and an illustration, making them easily recognizable for the little ones. I've also included 3 blank cards for you to customize. Each rule has its own colorful full-size poster for display, if you'd like. I have also included 2 posters of the 9 rules, in rainbow colors and blue/green. I put our poster on the bulletin board with the Reminder Cards, and the kids signed their names around it as an agreement to follow the rules. Finally, the file includes a weekly chart for keeping track of the Reminder Cards that students get. I hope you find it useful! Lauren Livengood

Life is a joyous adventure full of challenges, opportunities, friendships, love, learning, and the appreciation for the wonders of this world. Each runic symbol on this blanket represents key qualities or lessons that we either need to develop or draw upon as we venture forth. The complete Elder Futhark alphabet is written here, the name and attributes of each is included in the pattern. The spirit of nature finds expression in the imagery of flowers, hearts, and butterflies that surround the runes, while the Celtic inspired cables and bobbles are a natural complement to the design. The centre panel which features the full Elder Futhark Rune Script, Celtic inspired cables with bobbles, and butterfly lace, is knit back and forth (flat). The border is made by picking up stitches from the perimeter of the centre panel and working in the round. Please Note: This listing is for the knitting pattern to hand knit a baby or lap blanket. You will not recieve a physical blanket. What you are buying is the digital file (pdf) which you can view on your computer or print out. Detailed instructions, photographs and hand knitting charts are included in the pdf file. You should be familiar with basic knitting techniques including casting on and off, knits, purls, and also with cables, basic laceknitting (yarn overs) and bobbles. Each wrong side row is 'resting' purl only row. The pattern is fully charted! Directions are given for set up and following the charts, but the pattern is not written out. Finished size: 76 x 91 cm ( 30 x 36 inches) You will need approximately 500g of double knitting weight yarn with 125 metres per 50 g for a total of 1250 metres. The sample photographed was made with 10 - 50 g balls of Rowan Extra Fine Merino DK in the shade no 889, Blood. Gauge is 22 sts per 10 cm with 4.0mm needles. You can see more about this pattern on Ravelry. Look for me there as HeathcoteRoad!
Frog math activities for your kids in preschool, pre-k and kindergarten. Kids can practice counting 1-10 and composing and decomposing numbers to ten with this interactive hungry frog counting activity. The pages can be assembled into a fun interactive counting book or can be used separately as play dough or math activity mats. This resource is a perfect addition to your math centers or math work stations and will be great for your frog theme unit, pond theme unit, or spring theme unit and lesson plans. *Please note that this product is included in my Frog Bundle: Activities for Preschool and Early Childhood. If you purchase the money-saving bundle, you DO NOT need to purchase this product. Create a busy book, a math center activity, or a take-home activity binder with this fun product. Children will practice counting, number recognition, one-to-one correspondence. They can also practice reading predictable text and composing and decomposing numbers from 1-10 as they "feed" a frog the appropriate number of bugs. The activity includes the following: ✔ 10 full sheet number pages ✔ 1 cover page ✔ printable bugs in two colors ✔ directions for construction. Self-adhesive hook and loop tape is used to complete the activity. It is a little tedious to add hook and loop tape to the back of the bugs and frog tongues, but the resulting activity can be used for years to come and is so much fun for young children. Please see product preview to see photos of completed activity and sample pages from the product. This activity is appropriate for a preschool, pre-k, kindergarten, homeschool, special education classroom, or for a speech therapy, or occupational therapy activity. It is a perfect addition to a thematic unit on frogs, ponds, spring, or summer. . ❓ DO YOU HAVE QUESTIONS? Are you looking for some answers before making a purchase? Spring Tulips Table Topper is an original quilt pattern for an octagonal table topper and four placemats. The topper measures 19 1/2" across and the placemats measure 12 3/4" x 17”. The tulip petals and leaves have folded curved edges and "float" due to the turned-back bias edges, but there is no curved piecing. This is sometimes called Cathedral Window curves. Choose two coordinating fabrics for the tulip centre and side petals. The background fabric should not have a large or a directional print because it is cut and sewn on various angles. Other fabric requirements are shown in final photo. ________________________________________________ Intermediate (3 spools out of 5) This quilt pattern is suitable for the quilter with intermediate rotary cutting and piecing skills. The pattern contains a detailed rotary cutting chart and full colour illustrations of all piecing steps, quilting suggestions and a number of pattern variations. The pattern does not use appliqué, paper piecing or curved piecing. __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ __ This 6-page pattern is sold as a PDF file, delivered instant download. 'Tailwind' is a striking and beautiful quilt with amazing energy and movement created using a traditional log cabin block design with fusible laser cut appliqué aeroplanes. My quilt is made using a jelly roll and yardage from my 'Flight' fabric collection for Moda. A full fabric kit for this quilt will be available very soon! The pattern is printed in full colour, and includes colour photographs, detailed block construction diagrams and full-size appliqué templates to make your own aeroplanes if not using the laser cut packs. A bonus project is also included showing you how to make a string quilt with the jelly roll scraps! The fabric requirements to piece the front, back and bind this quilt are as follows, with the fabrics I used from my Flight collection shown in brackets. - 1 Jelly Roll for log cabin strips (Flight Jelly Roll, 1410JR) - 1 ¼ yd mid-tone blue for log cabin block centres (Vapour > Sky, 1414-17) - ¾ yd dark blue for binding (A Nice Stripe > Indigo - Sky, 1411-21) - 3 packs laser cut appliqué aeroplanes or 27 fabric scraps in a variety of blue and cream colours and patterns – six each of 6 ½ x 6 ½, 4 ½ x 4 ½, 2 ½ x 2 ½ inches (Flight Laser Cut Fusible Aeroplanes, CUT12) - 3 ¼ yds fabric for backing (Rivets > Cream - Red, 1415-15) The finished quilt measures ~50 x 50 inches. This quilt was originally made using fabric from Janet's 'Flight' Moda fabric collection from 2017. Unfortunately we no longer have the full range of fabrics or laser cut fusible aeroplanes available and they maybe hard to source. You can easily substitute other fabrics and many of Janet's collections will work very well. Simply follow the fabric swatches shown on the back of the pattern and choose similar shades and tones. The pattern also includes the templates for cutting your own aeroplanes out of your chosen fabric.
