Pair of Metropolitan Chairs by Ejner Larsen and Axel Bender Madsen. These chairs take their name from the Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, where they were shown in 1960 at the breakthrough exhibition, "The Arts of Denmark", showcasing the most prominent Danish design of the day. Frits Hansen first made the chair in 1950. Beginning in 1959, Willy Beck made a version of the chair with saddle leather. The continuous arm and back of the chair has been cut from a flat teak plywood sheet and then forced into shape by screwing it to the turned beech legs’ obliquely cut tops. The screw heads are covered with wooden plugs. The Metropolitan Chair is in the permanent collection of the Danish Museum of Art and Design, Copenhagen Designed 1950. These chairs date to the 1950s. One chair stamped on the underside with the maker's mark: FH (see image). Literature Arne Karlsen, Danish Furniture Design in the 20th Century, Copenhagen, 2007, vol. I, p. 189, illustrated in color.

690 mm hoch x 640 mm breit x 680 mm tief - Sitzhöhe 400 mm
