Alaskan Yellow Cedar (AYC) is a mostly unknown and definitely under-appreciated material that is an excellent choice for many construction applications. AYC (Cupressus Nootkatensis) is technically not a Cedar but a Cypress. Most of what we call Cedar in Central Texas is actually a Juniper so I suppose Cedar must be an old Native American word for tree. Located by the Atlantic Ocean on the southern coast of Nova Scotia, Peggy's Cove is a very quaint fishing village with this beautiful lighthouse. There is a large area of beautifully ocean carved granite rock surrounding the lighthouse. However you must always be wary of the ocean waves because there are several tourists every year are swept off the rocks by the occasional unexpectedly high waves! I have been 3 times and will always make the detour whenever I'm in that region of the province. The lighthouse is octagonal and pyramidal, built of concrete and steel in 1914 and first lit in 1915. It stands 49 feet high, and once housed a Post Office! It replaced the previous wooden lighthouse that was built in 1868.
