I just got back from spending four days at a friend's house on the James River. Beautiful river, wonderful hostess, fun with the kids, quiet, relaxing evenings sitting on the porch, and the house was just adorable! But there was no wifi. Completely disconnected. For four days! No blog or FB or e-mail! The horror! Somehow, we survived our technological blackout and the giveaway went just fine without me:) We have our three winners! Amanda, Cheryl, and Andrea will receive e-mails soon:) Thanks to all the wonderful TPT teachers who donated products! Go visit them and see what they have to offer! What Is It Really Like To Earn And Manage Your Own Money? Time to keep it real! What will happen once students leave the safe confines of school and venture into real life? Rather than dancing in musicals and playing basketball nine hours a day, they will have to go out and get a real job (yuck!) and pay bills (ugh). Oh, the humanity! While it is impossible to give you a completely accurate real-world experience that includes all of the little intricacies of real life, this project intends to push financial literacy skills and develop decision-making skills that will be with stick with students - forever and ever and ever and ever. - In Bookkeeping 101, students analyze the spending of different individuals and determine whether or not they have the funds to purchase an item they would like. - In Budget Busters 101, students analyze the budgets and actual spending of different individuals. Are they spending within their budget? - In Monthly Payment 101, students will calculate monthly payments of different loan options and choose between them. - In Real Life students will take on the multifaceted Game of Real Life project that requires that they make choices, set budgets, encounter life changes, and much more! Finally, students will complete both a personal and financial reflection that encourages them to record their reactions to their financial twists and turns. This project is an officially licensed adaptation of content from Clark Creative Education (formerly 21st Century Math Projects). NextLesson makes changes with permission.

Many teachers are familiar with decoding strategies that may emphasize the use of picture clues, meaning and self-monitoring.
Hello Everyone! I know! It has been a long time since my last post. I have had so much family stuff going on that I have been absolutely crazy tired by the end of the day. I think things are settling in now, so I finally had a second to sit down and present a quick post. Thanks for hanging in there with me. I am so excited about how our poetry unit is coming along. We have one more week and then I'll be ready to share some of my little poets' work! They have been loving it!! Until then, I wanted to share a new unit that we started incorporating into our math curriculum. Personal Finance. Yes! You read that correctly. I don't know if you have that in your objectives, but in Texas we try to cover saving, spending, and sharing. Our adopted curriculum (Pearson) does a good job of supporting the objectives with technology based lessons, but if you know me, you know I have to have some things to accompany the curriculum in my math tubs. I created a Personal Finance unit that I am sharing tonight. Here are a few pics from the 50 page unit. All vocabulary words are included in a set of mini posters to post in classroom The unit includes some whole group vocabulary activities and 6 math tub activities. I can't wait for my kids to learn through these hands on personal finance activities and I hope they will help you help your kids learn as well! If you are interested, you can get the unit for free----CLICK HERE!!! :) Let me know how it goes and if I need to add anything else. Well, that's all the time I have for now. I promise I'll be back very soon!! As always, thanks for visiting. You are the best!! Joyfully! Nancy

My students absolutely LOVE playing Classroom Management Games! I have designed this game set for May and June to cover any behavior needs you need to cover. You just choose the behavior focus before playing the game with your class. These games target those behaviors while positively reinforcing students meeting your expectations. Classroom games are played as a whole group and end with some sort of reward. You can also play the games in teams, tables, or individually. These games are also great if you are homeschooling. You can use these as incentives to complete activities and assignments during your day. I have included a list of mostly free prize ideas in the resource. I print the games on cardstock and laminate them. I use Velcro dots to attach the game pieces to the game boards. This game requires students to earn all of the shark's teeth by the end of the day. If you are working on transitions, and students exhibit a quick, quiet, and smooth transition, they earn a shark tooth. I attach the pieces with velcro dots. If it's not completed by the end of the day, they have to start over the following day. Fill the Cup requires students to earn pieces to fill the glass of lemonade by the end of the day. If you are working on cleaning up, and students exhibit that behavior, they earn a piece. I attach the pieces with velcro dots. If it's not filled by the end of the day, they have to start over the following day. Tropical Tic Tac Toe is played like traditional Tic Tac Toe. When students exhibit the positive behavior, the student gets to add an X to the game board. When students do not meet expectations, the teacher gets to add an O to the game board. The first with three in a row wins! Hearties Hunt can be played as class vs. teacher or you can play it by tables or teams. When a table or students are being on task, for example, they get to move their game piece. The first to the treasure wins! For Beach BUMP, just choose what behavior you want to focus on. When students do not meet expectations, the teacher gets to add a game piece to the board. When a student meets your expectations, that student gets to add a game piece to the board. The first with four in a row wins! Don't forget that you can bump each other off the board! BEE on Task Challenge is a students vs. teacher behavior whole group behavior management tool. Reward students for positive behaviors by giving the class side of the board a game piece. For negative behaviors, the teacher side earns a game piece. At the end of the day or class period, the class must exceed the teacher side for a reward! These games have made all the difference with my class! But I have to say that in order for them to work, it's up to you, the teacher, to keep them going. You do have to keep reminding them of the game and make it competitive. Stay positive and be an encourager. You will begin to see your students mirroring those same qualities. You can click any of the pics from the post to check out the resource. I would love to hear how it goes in your classroom! Please feel free to tag me on Instagram to share how they are going! You can also save by purchasing the Bundle for the Entire Year below!
