Product DetailsISBN-13: 9781088071953 Media Type: Paperback Publisher: South Asia Lutheran Mission Publication Date: 10-10-2022 Pages: 40 Product Dimensions: 4.25(w) x 7.00(h) x 0.08(d) Age Range: 13 - 18 YearsAbout the Author Martin Luther (1483-1546) was a German priest and professor of theology who initiated the Protestant Reformation. He strongly disputed the claim that freedom from God's punishment of sin could be purchased with money. He confronted indulgence salesman Johann Tetzel with his Ninety-Five Theses in 1517. His refusal to retract all of his writings at the demand of Pope Leo X in 1520 and the Holy Roman Emperor Charles V at the Diet of Worms in 1521 resulted in his excommunication by the pope and condemnation as an outlaw by the emperor. Luther taught that salvation is not earned by good deeds but received only as a free gift of God's grace through faith in Jesus as redeemer from sin. His theology challenged the authority of the pope of the Roman Catholic Church by teaching that the Bible is the only source of divinely revealed knowledge and opposed sacerdotalism by considering all baptized Christians to be a holy priesthood. Those who identify with Luther's teachings are called Lutherans. His translation of the Bible into the language of the people (instead of Latin) made it more accessible, causing a tremendous impact on the church and on German culture. It fostered the development of a standard version of the German language, added several principles to the art of translation, and influenced the translation into English of the King James Bible. His hymns influenced the development of singing in churches. His marriage to Katharina von Bora set a model for the practice of clerical marriage, allowing Protestant priests to marry.

This set of two paintings, Martin Luther's Morning and Evening Prayers, were created for an auction to benefit a little girl with severe epilepsy that was hosted by a local Lutheran church. The result? A bright yet peaceful reminder of the ideal way to wrap up our days: with prayer. Lutheran or not, this prayer is a beautiful ecumenical prayer for any Christian. "I thank Thee, my Heavenly Father, through Jesus Christ Thy dear Son, that Thou hast graciously kept me this day; And I pray Thee to forgive me all my sins, where I have done wrong, and graciously keep me this night. Let Thy holy angel be with me, that the wicked foe may have no power over me. Amen" The set of two original 12x15 inch watercolors were drawn by hand using archival ink pens. Color was added using watercolors. My color choices are symbolic, as are the berries, sun, moon and path imagery. This print is sold unmatted, in part because it looks great in a variety of mat colors - dark red, blues, green, yellow. Mat and frame to match your laundry room, bathroom, kitchen - wherever you pass through as you close your day. These 5x7, 8x10 and 11x14 inch prints are professionally run on bright white, 100lb acid free paper. No digital editing is used, and I work closely with a small, locally owned printshop. One of the things I appreciate about them is that they use sustainably forested papers and environmentally sensitive inks. Every print is then signed in pencil by the artist (me). This print will be carefully packaged in a plastic sleeve with a heavy backing board, and shipped via USPS in a protective mailer.
