I don't know about you, but I have never felt more ready for summertime. Everything feels more alive (both internal and externally), and for the first time in a while I'm feeling excited about new ideas. May was a month filled with colorful paintings, long walks, wildflowers, and landscapes. Here's a quick highlight reel from the past few weeks: The Williard Gallery opened in Maine, and I'm thrilled to have a handful of paintings in the beautiful space, including the two little landscapes pictured here. The six landscapes I sent to The Willard Gallery. Pepperminty Mountain Laurel seen on my morning walk. The new canvas landscape prints are available! Dog days in the studio with Finn. A new 36 x 48

We love having friends and family to stay. Charleston is such a destination city, we have attracted many visitors and there are periods in the year when our house is full every weekend! There are a few things I always like to have on hand to make sure that our guest room is very comfortable and feels a touch luxurious. These items are easy to find and don’t have to be expensive, and the extra effort is sure to make your guest feel very welcome. A delicious candle. My absolute favorite are Feu de Beaumont candles — they are such a treat! NEST candles are our staple, I always get the Moroccan Amber unless it’s around the holidays — I also love their Christmas scents. I also love Dyptique and anything Jo Malone. My friend Julia gave me this candle recently and I love it!! I have selfishly saved it for my own room… Lovely soaps and bubble bath (if applicable). I adore Roger & Gallet for both — any scent! My friend Olivia gave me this bubble bath as an early birthday present and it is divine. Candies and water by the bed. I like to leave chocolates, wrapped if […]

To visit Charleston, a farmhouse that the Bloomsbury Group transformed into their most famous work of art, is to be transported back in time. It has been open to the public since 1986, but it has just launched its first exhibition and event spaces, along with a new restaurant. At the same time, under Charleston’s modern guise as a tourist heritage site—having become a destination for day-trippers, complete with café and gift shop—it’s easy to overlook just how radically the members of the Bloomsbury Group lived their lives.
Lucy McKeon: You see photographs of living rooms as portraits of people’s interiors—both literally and as visual representations of who they are. Dominique Nabokov: Yes, the living room is ultimately the vitrine, your vitrine, to the world. It’s where you want to show yourself to the world, consciously or unconsciously. And even if you use an interior decorator, it still will betray who you are. So, in a way, it’s like your clothes. It betrays who you are—not 100 percent, of course, but 75 percent.

Lucie Rie was born in Vienna in 1902 and moved to england in her early career where she met Hanz Coper. Together they became two of the most renowned studio potters in recent history. I think i'm particularly interested in Lucie Rie's work because of the fact that she is a woman and there is a very obvious lack of women in the ceramics and studio pottery industries. Her work with the form of the bowl is very relevant to my tea bowl project at the moment. Here are some of her works!
