HOW IT ALL BEGAN Sally’s Lundby Gothenburg dollhouse was a Christmas gift from her parents in the early 1970s. She fondly remembers many happy hours playing with it as a child. Years later, she and her dad lovingly restored it and began adding custom extensions to accommodate Sally’s expanding furniture collection. The house—now a sprawling eight-story tower—measures just shy of 5 feet (1.5 meters) across. A BRIEF TOUR The original Lundby sections are the top two floors and the living/TV room and formal lounge on Level 5. The rest was designed by Sally and constructed by her dad in various phases. Wherever possible they used Lundby parts purchased on eBay (doors, windows, balustrades, staircases, and more), seamlessly blending the new with the original. They started by adding a two-story basement to the original house to create a garden area with a balcony, billiard room, and indoor space for the swimming pool. Phase 2 saw the addition of Level 3 and the two levels at the bottom right, including the garage, utility room with WC at the rear, bar, and garden terrace off the kitchen. Sally adapted an original Lundby balcony for use in this level. Level 4 features an outdoor patio area and a family/game room, as well as a landing, second bathroom, and office with adjoining conservatory. Level 5 includes the girls’ bedroom and above it on Level 6 are the parents’ suite and boys’ bedroom. A CREATIVE TOUCH Some of the furniture and unique accessories you see throughout Sally’s amazing house were created by Sally herself. She made the billiard table from a 12th scale dining table, adding molding around the edges and gluing a piece of green carpet on top. The cues are made from wooden barbecue skewers and the balls are colored beads. The green suite to the right of the billiard table was a damaged Barton/Caroline’s Home set that Sally re-covered to match the other furnishings. The washing machine is made from a small cardboard box covered in glossy photographic paper. The round door is made from window acetate and a key ring, and the control panel is a piece of dark cardboard with silver beads for the buttons. The bed and bedding and wardrobe unit in the parents’ bedroom are made from small wood off-cuts, fabric, and sticky-back plastic with a woodgrain effect. The cabin bed/high sleeper in the girls’ bedroom is made from wood off-cuts and a 12th scale bedside cabinet. Sally also made the girls’ patchwork bedding and the curtains in all the rooms. The patio heater on the top floor balcony has a parasol made from a cocktail umbrella. Sally made the weight bench in the family/game room using bits of wood and dowel. The weights are vehicle wheels that she purchased from a model shop and attached to a section of welding rod. She finished it off with two Lundby floor cushions. A WORK IN PROGRESS Sally finds her dollhouse project to be very therapeutic and satisfying, and her passion for it has grown over time. So have her ideas and inspiration! Her latest addition—now in progress—is a ground floor stable area.

Mini restoration & renovation, resources, sales, and more!
Before: This is what it looked like when I got it, with the Brio furniture that came with the house. I wasn't too keen on the decor, apart from the kitchen, so I decided to change it. The wallpapers were torn anyway. And after a bit of work: I have collected all the Lundby dolls from the 70s - they are some of my favourite dolls! Boys are after cake I was able to get the chairs for a very reasonable price, but not a matching table, so I've made little leg extensions for my coffee table which I wasn't using. This lady was out shopping while I photographed the house, so here she is! I love these windows for the way they open! .
Vintage Lundby House 1973-1974. (I dated this house as straddling two years as it still has the attachments on the base for the legs (see my 1967 vintage Lundby house), which were discontinued in 1973. But it also has the 'new' plastic stair rails and stairs which first appeared in the 1974 catalogue. This is my least favorite house. There. I've said it. And it feels good to acknowledge it out loud. At first I thought it might have been the dark, dirty looking green wallpaper that covers the back wall. Or the fact that, of all my houses, this is the one that survived the trip here least well and so it has splits where it shouldn't have and bits glued back on that show it. Badly. Plus marks from a previous owner to top it all off. But, as I spent time with it over the past week cleaning and mending it best I could, I realised what the problem really is. This is the surly, gangly teenager of my dolls' house collection. You can still see traces of the house it used to be in the late 60s: * The front edging is still white wood, same as my 1967 house. * The chimney remains the same as previous models (see below) * The internal doors are wood, with handles on one side only: * The windows remain crude. Oddly enough, separate plastic window inserts were available in the 1970 catalogue but disappeared the following year. You can also see the beginnings of what The Lundby Style was to become: * The external bricks are now white: * And there is now a hole in the back of the house, under the stairs, to store the transformer. * The stairs, banister and railings at the top are now plastic and will remain this style up until the present day:* The bathroom windows have disappeared and there is now a wall and door between the dining room and bathroom. This will also remain part of the Lundby house design up until the present day. * Interestingly enough, this appears to be the first model where they use custom designed miniature wallpaper rather than full sized offcuts. My favourite pieces of furniture in this house are: The groovy bed set with swirly fabric cover and stool (Lundby 9721 New Scandinavia: listed as new in the 1974 catalogue but with a different style stool. I have both stools but prefer this one with legs)The matching swivel chair and footstool in the study area (Lundby 5450 Snurrefatolj and Lundby 5451 Snurrepall) I also think the Pippi Longstocking TV is pretty cool and brings back childhood memories. Pity I don't have one complete with a base... (For the sharp eyed amongst you you'll notice the kitchen chairs remain the same as the ones in the 1957 and 1967 house, except this time they're yellow. And two interesting bits of trivia: the kitchen table is a real Formica pattern called Virrvarr, designed in 1958 by Sigvard Bernadotte. And the painting above the swivel chair is The Reader painted by Jean-Honore Fragonard between 1770 and 1772 The original hangs in The National Gallery of Art in Washington DC) (This house was purchased, unfurnished, off German eBay in June 2004). ___________________________________________________________________________________ Visit my other dolls houses

I have been trying to collect all the dolls from the 1974 catalogs, and by now only a few bits of clothing are missing. Women - Mona Variations These were not in the 1974 catalog, they didn't appear until 1975. They have black shoes instead of red. Men - Robert (I'm still missing the bathrobe for number 3, he has a towel instead for now) This one appeared in 1975 Boy - Peter This one appeared in the 1975 catalog Girl - Marie (number one missing her belt)
