MACBETH : This inquiry unit is designed to be used instead of, or as a supplement to, a more traditional approach to the play. Students will begin with driving questions that ask them to investigate how Macbeth can teach them lessons that they can apply to their own lives. The unit includes initial activities that allow students to see how they could relate to Macbeth, 1000's of years later, as well as many graphic organizers designed to aid students in their investigation. Answer keys are included. If you are using this as a supplement to a traditional study, use the organizers and reflections to have your students make connections between the play and real life, as well as to understand the ways that the Macbeths reflect timeless aspects of human nature. Then, once the play is finished, you can use the assignments in this package instead of, or along with, your other final assessments. If you want to do a less traditional study of the play, you can forgo—or do fewer of—the scene questions and quotations, and use these exercises by themselves. Regardless of which method you choose, your students will be asked to apply many 21st century skills as they study the play and work together on a final project. The zip file includes the inquiry unit, plus a slide show for you to use to guide your students as they use this inquiry approach, as well as one for the writing prompts. All answer keys and rubrics are included as well.
