First off I wanted to share with you all the New April Mood Board Challenge for April from Maja Design, it's a really beautiful board based on the new Vintage Spring collection. As I've mentioned before, if you'd like to play with this mood board and have a chance at winning a lovely Maja design collection, you can find the information on the challenge HERE. I've been wanting scrap this cute photo of my little Great-niece Kiera for while now....and I just knew I wanted to use that awesome fishnet chippie from Dusty Attic Designs....actually I used a whole lotta the Dusty Attic for this one. I used the Grass Clusters #1, Grass Clusters #2, Ornate Corner, Shells, Mini Bird Houses, Fishnet Panel, Birds a Field, Corrugated Card, plus a number of the New Dusty In Color Paints (Navajo white, Bisque, Meadow Green, Hot Chocolate and the New Mixed Media Crackle finish....AND some of their new Mini-roses!! I painted all the pieces white to start with...then used a variety of inks and paints to lightly color the chippies. The papers are a mix of the gorgeous Maja Design papers from their Vintage Summer Basics collection and their Vintage Spring Basics collection. The blue and white blooms I used here are from a bargain bin at Michaels, and I just added leaves from Dusty Attic to finish up the bloom clusters.....I love these for the perfect finish for a cluster. I painted the little bird house with Navajo White, inked with some brown chalk ink and added a coat of the DA Crackle medium. For the shell I mixed a little sand into some Gesso to add a little texture to the shell. I added a little sea glass to finish the beach look. For the corner chippie I did a little script stamping and again added the Dusty Attic Crackle medium on top of it. Here's a full list of the goodies I used to make up this page: Supplies: Chipboard: Dusty Attic (Grass Clusters #1, Grass Clusters #2, Ornate Corner, Shells, Mini Bird Houses, Fishnet Panel, Birds a Field) Corrugated Card: Dusty Attic Paints and Mediums: Dusty Attic (Navajo White, Hot Chocolate, Meadow, Bisque), Dusty Attic Crackle Medium Flowers: Dusty Mini-roses (Caramel, Sky Blue), Dusty Leaves, Petaloo (white flower), Michaels Bargain bin blooms. Patterned Paper: Maja Design ~ Vintage Summer Basics (1905, 1934), Vintage Spring Basics (April 7th) Stamps: Bo Bunny Script Stamp Rub-on: Daisy D's Other: Burlap, Cheese-cloth, loose buttons, Shells, Sea Glass, Bo Bunny Jewels Is everyone else as ready for the beach as I am? Goodness! We went to the Maple Syrup Festival here in Ontario and it was soooo cold! We had a blast and ate some great food but boy, am I ready for summer!
Nice to see you back! I have always loved slimline cards since I first learned about making them about 10 years ago. It is wonderful to see that they are all the rage in card design now. So I was thrilled to design an entire card kit with all slimline cards. This post is just showing you the cards that will be in the kit. I believe that they are all spoken for ecept for one kit! And Carol just received them on Friday (3 days ago)! One thing though, I forgot to take my photos of all the cards like I usually do. I do, however, have the teaser photos I took, and have done the best I could with editing them. SOLD within a day after posting This is a large Kit! It has 9 Slimeline cards! Kit cost is $45. If you wish to grab the last remaining kit, contact Scrapbook Parade here. These are the nine cards in order as they will appear on the printed instructions. So these are the cards for the Maja Design "Vintage Autumn Basics" Slimline card kit. See you next time for a post with more detailed photos to accompany the instructions for this kit. Remember, there is only one left! Happy creating!
I'm jumping in with Team Wends this week as our challenge theme at Sweet Stampin' for the next fortnight is CAS - one of my favourites. I took advantage of an offer and treated myself a wee while ago to this stamp from Simon Says Stamp. It's the perfect size for a CAS card The stamp in question has 3 layers and I opted for warm yellows and greens for my design. The sentiment is also part of the stamp set and is just the right size to accompany the image. We'd love you to join in with us and share your CAS projects. You can check out the inspiration makes my lovely teamies have created on the Sweet Stampin' Challenge Blog Have a fabulously crafty weekend! xxx

I get some really lovely comments and emails from you sweet ladies out there and one of the things I hear is that you'd like to be a fly on the wall while I'm creating a project! Well, you'd have to be a very patient fly because my projects can sometimes take a while! lol! But I also know that I really like watching these 'watch the process' videos, so I thought I would create another canvas, this time using the gorgeous Maja Design collection called 'Ska Vi ta en Fika' and some Dusty Attic chipboard pieces. I just love this paper collection, here is a little peek at it if you haven't seen it yet... So without further ado, here is my video tutorial for my Vintage Dress Canvas! Grab yourself a cup of coffee, sit back and enjoy! I hope you enjoyed my tutorial! Here are a few close-ups in closer detail. I'd love to hear what you all thought of the video and also what sorts of tutorials you would like to see in the future on my blog.....I love getting your feedback! Would you like to get your hands on some gorgeous new Maja Design collection papers? Be sure to stop by my blog on March 1st, I've got an exciting announcement for you all!!
Hello my friends, I've got a fun layout to share with you today some of my all time favorite Maja Design papers, and a cool technique that I used on my Dusty Attic Chipboard! As many of you already know about me, I'm a mom of two girls, so most of my scrapbooking is done in a feminine style. But recently a friend of mine sent me a whole bunch of photos of her children that she wanted me to scrap. Although she has beautiful little girls, she also has an adorable little boy! So I was thrilled to have the opportunity to do a masculine 'boy' style page. When I saw the cute little plaid shirt that her son was wearing in the pic, I immediately thought of the perfect 'Flannel' shirt and 'Jeans' papers from the Walking In the Forest collection. I added in some of the clock elements from the Vintage Autumn Basics collection and I had some lovely papers to get started. Dusty Attic Product used on this page: - String Circle frame set (small) -barb wire #2 - Zippers - Jumbo Cogs - Cogs #1 - Nuts and Bolts - Chicken Wire Panel small - Word Pack #6 (not shown above) Title - Dusty In Color: Hot Chocolate, Sunburnt Orange, Gingernut, Raisin -Rusting Powder I used a variety of Dusty Attic product for this page design including some of their paints and their very cool Rusting Powder. I actually created this page kit for a special retreat that Jennifer Hedger (owner of Dusty Attic) and a bunch of the lovely ladies in Australia have been on for the past few days. Sadly I was not able to make the time to join all the sweet ladies in Australia for this retreat but I was happy to create this page kit for them to enjoy as part of their fun little getaway! I believe Jennifer will be offering this kit to the public when she gets back from their retreat....(I'll keep you all posted on that). All the chipboard I used on this page is from Dusty Attic Designs. I had a lot of fun with my chipboard pieces. I thought I would go for a nice rusty finish....they look like real rusty metal don't they! What I did to get this effect is first I painted the chipboard pieces with some Dusty Attic paints (Hot Chocolate, Raisin and Gingernut), I kind of dabbed on the colors with a sponge dauber, randomly placing my color. While the paint was still wet, I sprinkled some Dusty Attic Rusting Powder over sections of my chipboard, allowing some of the paint color underneath to show through. This gave my pieces a nice mottled look. The next step in rusting is to take a spray bottle and put some white vinegar in it....spritz your pieces with the vinegar, then allow your pieces to begin rusting. The process takes about 20 minutes to a half hour. I sped up the process a bit by hitting it with the heat gun. I also dry brushed some Dusty Attic Paint in Sunburnt Orange over a section here and there to get an even more mottled rusty look to my pieces. Here is another close-up of the rusted chipboard pieces. I also tucked in clock cut outs from the Vintage Autumn Basics (XVI) collection, applied with some foam pop dots and then used some Stickles (Platinum) around the edges of the clocks. I created the rusted ruler by cutting out a strip of chipboard and then using some of my homemade texture paste and the Tim Holtz 'Measured' stencil on it. I then painted the piece and used the rusting powder on it the same as I did for the other chippies. I also made use of a Crafters Workshop stencil, appropriately named mini 'Specimens' which I used to create more design behind the photo on the 'Jeans' paper. Another design element I went with was the zipper opening. I used this twice on the page, at the top right corner of the page and a small 'V' cut in the 'Flannel Shirt' paper on the right side of the photo. I just cut a little tear into the papers and inserted another Dusty Attic chipboard piece into the groove (Dusty Attic Zippers)....I treated these pieces with some metalic paint as well. I took one of the chain chipboard pieces and gently bent it to get this curved hanging chain look. I painted the piece with some bronze dimensional metalic paint (Scribbles) and then added a bead of the 3D paint along the straight lines of the chain to give more of a 3D look to the chain. Oops, how did that lace get in there?! LOL....well, at least I resisted adding blooms right? So there is my take on a masculine 'boy' style page. Hope you enjoyed seeing my project and that I've inspired you to scrap the boys/men in your life. xo
Hi all, today I have another page to share with you using Maja Design papers and Dusty Attic Chipboard (as well as a few lovely page accents sent to me from Lucy at Tresors de Luxe). As I was scrapping this recent photo of my youngest daughter, I was struck by how much she's grown up. I can't believe she is a teenager now (turned 13 over the summer). I miss her being my baby girl, but I also have enjoyed every stage of her life, this girl cracks me up with her funny sense of humour and quirky style. For this page I used a modge podge of Maja Design papers. I more often than not combine a variety of Maja papers, coordinating them by color rather than collection name. I used a variety of scraps in neutral tones and greens to make my rolled paper accents. I rolled up the scraps and then bound them with some twine. I added a fun l'il door hook on the side of my paper from Ingvild Bolme's Junkyard Findings. I used a variety of Dusty Attic chipboard as part of my page design, including a Skeleton Clock Frame, Foliage, and the 'So Sweet' title. For the frame I first painted the pieces with some white Gesso. Then I randomly dabbed on some 'Broken China' and 'Peeled Paint' Tim Holtz Distress Ink. I did a little edging with Ingvild Bolme's 'Branch Bark' Chalk Ink. Then I added a coat of Inksenttials Crackle Medium. When it was dry and crackled I dabbed on some 'Walnut Stain' Distress ink so that it got in the little cracks and whipped off the excess ink. I used the 11th of March-bs paper as the green background frame for my page and as the main background paper I used the backside of 'Flannel Shirt' paper from 'Walking in the Forest Collection'....this is one of my favorite papers to use as a nice neutral background, especially when I do some mixed media on the page as I did here. I used a bit of Broken China and Peeled Paint Distress ink pads on the page and added some texture with home-made texture paste and a Crafter's Workshop Stencil called 'Mini Damask'. The butterfly is an image that I printed on a piece of transparency and cut out. I wanted to keep my blossoms soft and clean, so I went with a burlap bloom from Petaloo and two white blossoms from Dusty Attic Designs. The small sugared dots are from Prima. The strip of lace I used on the bottom of the page and the natural floral cluster (just above the title) are both from Tresors de Luxe. I had a little fun with the title. First I gave it a coat of brown chalk ink 'Knotted Wood' by Ingvild Bolme, then I used some 'Waterfall' Stickles in the center of my alpha's. After it all dried I gave the whole thing a coat of gloss medium with some Glossy Accents. Maja Design Products used in this project: Vintage Spring Basics (11th of March-bs, 7th of April, 7th of April-bs), Antiglen (Kaffe på trappan), Walking in the Forest (Flannel Shirt-bs), Sofiero (brown dot). I hope you enjoyed today's project and hope you find yourself some time this week to get your Maja on. Dusty Attic Products used in this project: ~ Skeleton Clock Frames ~ Foliage ~ 'So Sweet' title chippie Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today, you ladies are all awesome, the comments you leave here really touch my heart, thanks for that! xo xo
Hi all! I recently got a whole bunch of photos of my adorable little great-nieces from their sweet mom Danielle. Lots of pretty autumn photos, so I decided to scrap them using a variety of Maja design collection papers and some NEW Dusty Attic chipboard designs. Green has always been one of my favorite colors to scrap, but lately I've been scrapping a lot of pinks and purples. I thought it was high time to play with some of my old favorite green toned papers mixed with some soothing neutrals. I love the warm green in the Ska vi ta en Fika collection, so I used one as my backdrop for my layout design. I then chose one of the neutral papers from the same collection for my next layer. I wanted to play a bit with the side edges so I chose to use a chipboard Zipper design From Dusty Attic, moistened the sides of the papers and pulled back the paper in the center, creating small pleats. I then attached the zipper chipboard pieces (painted with some Bronze 3D paint (Scribbles) and glued it behind the edges of the paper. The title and the number chippies are from Dusty Attic as well. There are some tag images in the Walking in the forest collection, so I cut these out to used along the top of the photo as a page accent and a place to put a little journaling. I also cut another tag out of a Coffee In the Arbour paper and stamped one of my Signature Word stamps 'fabulous' that I recently released. These are all words I like to use on my scrapbook pages, done in my own handwriting. (My word stamps can be found at The Scrapbook Diaries, along with all my other stamp designs). The title is from a new collection of hash tag words from Dusty Attic :) I wanted to keep the page accents naturalistic so I chose a new Dusty Attic chipboard piece called Wildflowers #3 to add alongside my photo of my two little great nieces. And finally in the corner of the photo I accented with a few blooms from a tin of flowers from Recollections. I did a bit of background stamping as well with some green Moss Lawn color from Ingvild Bolme. Maja Design Products used in this project: Ska vi ta en Fika? (Smulpaj m Applen, Havrerujor, Pratstund), Walking in the Forest (Klippark, Flannel Shirt), Vintage Autumn Basics (XVI), Vintage Frost Basics (Days of December), Coffee in the Arbour (Feel the Grass Between Your Toes). Thanks so much for stopping by the Maja blog today! Hope you get a chance to play today! xo You can find Maja Design papers at The Scrapbook Diaries, Janene has a large selection of Maja Design papers in a variety of collections, including the newest Maja paper line called "A Gift for You'. She also has a nice variety of Dusty Attic Chipboard....you can find Dusty Attic Chipboard in Canada at The Scrapping Bug as well. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today, I can't thank you all enough for the kind feedback I've been receiving, you all make my day! xo xo

Hi everyone! It's me Gabrielle here with you today to share my latest project using some fun new chippies from Dusty Attic and some Vintage Spring Basics collection mixed in with a little bit of Vintage Summer and Autumn Basics from Maja Design. I began by first using a Martha Stewart edge/corner punch on the edges of a neutral paper from the Vintage Summer Basics collection (1899). I then did a little inking with some Donna Salazar Distress Ink (Denim) and used a Heidi Swapp stencil and homemade texture paste over the inked areas. The photo is one of my great nieces that my nephew's wife Danielle was kind enough to share with me. I wanted to keep the design light and airy and playful like the photo of Jade and at the same time play up the blues in the photo. To make the floral design I used some super cute Dusty Attic chipboard (Spider Crysanthemum and Flower Buds), painted white and tinted with some blue and green chalk inks (Versa Magic Inks). I punched tiny blooms using a floral punch (Martha Stewart Hydrangea punch) on some cardstock and the left over strips of paper from the background (tinted blue at the edges, ). The butterfly is from Tattered Angels, Nature Glimmer Glass (I'm trying to use up bits of old stash with each layout I create). I just love the little strips at the bottoms of the paper collections (not even sure what it says, LOL) but I love the pretty design element they add to a page! I just adore the new cute l'il heart arrows, they make fun accents for a page. For the one I used above, I simply painted it with white gesso, inked it with some blue Distress ink (Denim) and brown chalk ink. I finished the design by adding some Dusty Attic Gloss Medium to the heart to give it a glassy look. For some reason I really love the way burlap looks with the blues in this collection. In keeping with the neutral accents, I chose a Prima flower in a natural fabric and added some smaller blooms in blue from Petaloo (Darjeeling collection...Love these blooms, I think they are a perfect match for the blues in the Maja collections). And I also used some more clock cut-outs from the Vintage Autumn Basics (I just love this paper for embellishing my layouts, the clocks seem to add a nice touch to any layout whether masculine or feminine). Dusty Attic Products used for this project: ~ Spider Crysanthemum ~ Flower Buds ~ Heart Arrows #2 ~ Hinges ~ Dusty In Color Gloss Varnish ~ Dusty In Bloom (Latte) Maja Design products used for this project: Patterned Paper: Vintage Spring Basics (4th of April, 4rth of April-bs, 5th of April), Vintage Summer Basics (1899), Vintage Autumn Basics (XVI) Again, if you are looking for Dusty Attic or Maja Design Products, I have a listing in my side panel of my blog with links to online stores. I can tell you that some great sources for these products are The Scrapbook Diaries (USA), Moments of Tranquility (USA), Vicky Alberto's Etsy Shop (Canada). Thanks so much for stopping by today and checkin' out my blog, your kind comments and feedback just make my day! xo
Hi everyone! I have another fun mixed media canvas to share with you today, another 8x10 canvas I made using a variety of Shimmerz products, Dusty Attic Chipboard and Maja Design papers! This time around I thought I would go for a Shabby-chic design. For this project I used the following Shimmerz products: I used the following Dusty Attic Products: ~ Baroque Corners ~ White Mini Roses ~ Divine Divas (winged dress form) ~ Ornate Frame #3 I used the following Maja Design Collections: ~ Coffee In the Arbour ~ Crea Diem As always I thought it would be best to show you all my process by making a video tutorial that shows all the steps in creating this canvas. I did make the actual corset embellishment that is the centerpiece of the project with some Martha Stewart air dry clay, it's easily made so I figured that you didn't need a tutorial on making the embellishment. (BTW, I know that many of you asked for a video tutorial on how I made the Mermaids Tail in the last video I made for Shimmerz so I got that done over the weekend, you can find the video tutorial for the Mermaids Tail HERE. So if you needed that extra little bit of help to make your own mermaid project just click on the link and you've got it :) So here you go, enjoy! xo I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and will give some of these techniques a try....here are a few close-ups that you can view at your own pace... I love the deep bronze shimmer the Shimmerz Brass Knuckles Inklingz, it really got me the look of a vintage mirror frame (Dusty Attic's Ornate Frame #3) that I was going for. The soft pearly look of the Tutti-Frutti dazzlers gives the corset a lovely feminine shabby-chic look. It's hard to see it in this photo but there are these beautiful shimmery bits of mica in the Sugar Plum Shimmerz paint that adds a subtle amount of glitter to the background design (you can see it better in the video). I feel like the plums and pinks from Shimmerz are a really good match for the colors in the Maja Design papers! I hope you enjoyed my tutorial and hope that you will give these wonderful products and fun techniques a try in your mixed media projects! And don't forget to get your BONUS/Free Shimmerz product in your next order, just put my name "Gabrielle' into the INSTRUCTIONS FOR MERCHANT part of your order and your will receive a FREE Bottle of Shimmerz or Dimensionz or a sample size jar of Dazzlerz or Texturez in the color of your choice! xo

Hello my lovely friends! Today I'm excited to share with you all a home decor project! It's no secret that I'm a big fan of the shabby-chic style, and I while I love this style for scrapbooking, today I thought I'd take it off the page and into the home. For my project I used a variety of Maja Design papers, some of my favourite Dusty Attic chippies and some really lovely embellishments that I got from my friend Angelica's Little Scrap shop (I'm in love with her Vintage Butterflies and that cute Victorian frame I got to use in the middle panel!) I made a video step by step on how I created this project, so grab yourself a cup of coffee, kick back and enjoy! I hope you enjoyed my video tutorial. Here are some individual shots of the each of the panels in this decorative wall hanging.... I used Vintage Spring Basics (4rth of April) as the base of this panel. I also added clocks from the Vintage Autumn Basics (XVI) paper to decorate the panel. The chipboard is from Dusty Attic Designs (Cherry Blossom Branch) and the butterfly is from Angelica's Little Scrap Shop. I used home-made texture paste and a Crafters Workshop stencil (Mini Time Travel) for the clock designs. I did a fair bit of layering with my patterned papers for the middle panel. I used a pretty blue paper from Crea Diem (Leva och växa) for the top layer, the next gingham layer is from Ska vi ta en Fika? (Två fröknar - bs) and then a bright blue layer from Crea Diem (Skapa dagen). I needed a lighter layer for my stamped quote (Tim Holtz stamp), so I used a scrap piece I had left over from my last project from the Vintage Spring Basics (6th of March). The stencils I used for this one were Crafters Workshop 'Art Is' and 'Brick'. The stitch I used was from Prima. The cute lil frame and the butterflies are from Angelica's Little Scrap Shop. For my final panel I used another part of the Crea Diem paper I used in the middle panel (Leva och växa) and created a peek-a-boo tear showing a strip pattern paper from Vintage Spring Basics (4th of April-bs). I again used a Cherry Blossom branch from Dusty Attic and the 'Art Is' and 'Brick' stencils from Crafters Workshop. Here are a couple more views of the panels... I hope my little project has inspired you to give home decor projects a try using Dusty Attic chipboard with vintage/shabby chic papers. Thanks for taking the time to watch my little tutorial! xo
One of the most frequently asked questions I get is "Where or how do you come up with some of your ideas/page designs?" So I thought I would share with you all today what inspired me to come up with this page design I made with some of my favourite Maja Design papers from the Ska vi ta en Fika collection. This layout began from an inspiration photo I found on Pinterest. It was a photo of some crocheted blooms with some muslin fabric. Here is the photo.... I just love the look of the white blooms with the touch of soft green and the draped look of the fabric on the gingham material. I immediately started thinking about how I could imitated this look on a scrapbook page. My first thought was of Maja papers since there are so many wonderful fabric look pages to choose from and I know that the 'Fika' collection has some lovely gingham style papers. Here are the main papers I used for this project.... I used the 'Kladdkaka' paper as my gingham background and then cut the "Chaite" paper in a drape design on a diagonal (I was also cutting out the lavender blooms at the same time because I was just going with the green accent on this page. I used the green "Smulpaj m äpplen-bs" paper as matting for my photo just to add that little extra touch of apple green. To make the blooms I used the Spellbinders smallest die from the 'Rose Creations' dies, I cut out a whole bunch from simple white/cream cardstock and gave each of the petals a little crinkle. I finished each bloom with an adhesive pearl. I had a section of apple green trim in my stash (from a local dollar store - no name) that I used to add a bow to each floral cluster. I created a drape by first cutting the 'Chaite' paper in a curvey line, then moistening the edge with water and then creating the draped line with my finger tips. I felt that the draping wasn't as lush as I wanted it to look so I used the scrap pieces left of the 'Chaite' paper and cut out 3 crescents (giving them a little bit of a fold as well) and tucked them under each of the draped areas. To embellish around my photo, I cut two hearts, one from the 'Kladdkaka' paper and the other from a scrap piece of paper I had from the 'Life in the Country' collection called 'Kitchen Garden'. I matted the hearts with some plain white cardstock and trimmed with a scallop edge scissor. I also cut out a couple of clock designs from the new 'Vintage Autumn Basics' collection "No. XVI". The cameo is one I had in my stash from Websters Pages. I added a brocade design to the background paper to go with the 'fabric' theme using a Crafters Workshop stencil (Mini Damask) and some home-made texture paste. I added some flourish to the page with a Dusty Attic chipboard flourish (Corner Flourish #1) which I coated with Gesso and stamped with a Bo Bunny script stamp and finished with crackle varnish. Maja Design Supplies: Ska vi ta en Fika (Kladdkaka, Chiate, Smulpaj m äpplen-bs), Life in the Country (Kitchen Garden), Vintage Autumn Basics (No. XVI). Before I sign off for today I just wanted to note that you can find Maja Design papers in your area by using the Maja Design Store Finder HERE. New countries and retailers are being added daily! I recently found out that Janene at The Scrapbook Diaries in New York just got in a nice supply of many of the Maja Design collections including the NEW Autumn Basics collection, just click on the name to check it out :) I hope you enjoyed my project today and perhaps gained a little insight into how my mind works when creating a page :) .... and hope that you have fun with some fabric inspiration using Maja Design papers! xo

Hello! Thank you for stopping by this fabulous Monday. It’s April and it’s time for a fresh mood board challenge. This one is just so.. yummie..! This is how we use the mood boards: Def…
May is the month of my dear husbands and my anniversary! And one of my favourite things about this month is that the Lilacs are in full ...
As most of you know by now, I have two daughters and no sons so most of my scrapping is done in a more feminine style. But I do have a bunch of handsome nephews and my dear husband that I occasionally get to scrap, so I was so thrilled to see that the new ' Vintage Autumn Basics' collection has a big variety of both masculine and feminine paper designs. I recently recieved this beautiful collection and while normally I automatically reach for the more feminine papers, this time around I wanted to scrap in a more masculine style. I had this photo of my dear husband Steve and my cutie-pie nephew Jared at a retirement party for Steve's older brother. The title on the page 'Tempus Fugit' (Latin for 'Time Flies') was just perfect for this photo! It seems like yesterday that we were baby sitting my young nephews when Steve's brother and his wife would go on trips, and now my BIL is passing down the reigns of his company to my nephews! Time really does fly! (the little girls you sometimes see me scrapping are Jared's little girls!). For this page I went with the 'time' theme and used lots of the clock images in this collection, as well as layering a number of the patterned papers. I started out by fussy cutting out a bunch of the clock designs. Here I used the Dusty Attic Wall Clock #2, but I cut and pasted one of the clocks from the Vintage Autumn Basics papers to the face of the clock. I dressed the chipboard up a bit by using a bronze metalic paint and adding some dots and details (I used Scribbles Bronze paint....from Michaels). The zipper is also a chipboard design from Dusty Attic (I wanted to try and stick to masculine style embellishments for the majority of the the decorations....and the Dusty Attic zipper is one of my all time favourites!). I had this cute metal stopwatch embellishment that I found at Michaels, I didn't love the clock design they had used on this embellishment, so again I cut out one of the clock designs from the Maja paper, tinted the edges lightly with blue chalk ink and pasted it on the clock. The chipboard gears are Dusty Attic, as are the roses...the larger blue flowers are from Petaloo (Darjeeling collection....I think the are are really good match to the Maja collection). I always like to use scraps of burlap for masculine layouts, I think it adds that nice textural element to the page that lace usually adds to my more feminine pages. Another nice masculine element to use is corrugated cardboard, metal, buttons and chipboard elements. Here are the Dusty Attic goodies I used on this page today (You can find these products at the Dusty Attic Website and I also have a listing in the rightside panel of my blog (Such A Pretty Mess blogspot) for Dusty Attic Retailers in USA and Canada).... I hope you enjoyed my masculine style page today, and hope you will give this beautiful new collection a try whether you scrap in the masculine or feminine style! xo
Hello everyone, Gabrielle here with you today! Yup, I'm back for a little guest spot! When I received the gorgeous Vintage Romance collection in the mail a couple weeks ago, I felt compelled to make up a layout & video tutorial with these stunning papers! I used 'Happily Ever After', 'Together Forever' and 'Words of Love' for my page design. I was going for a fabricky (is that a word? LOL) look on this layout, so I added a little machine stitching on the background design, this is optional, I think it can look equally as nice if you leave that off (if you are not a sewer). As always, no project is complete for me without a nice smattering of Dusty Attic products. For this page I used the following: ~ Wildflower #3 ~ Chicken Wire Panel (small) ~ Word Pack #10 ~ Vintage Frame #4 ~ Dusty Attic 'Flower Power' Stencil ~ Dusty Attic Glaze Varnish So grab your favorite beverage, take a little break and enjoy!.... I hope you enjoyed my little video tutorial, here are a few closeups for you to check out at your leisure.... I have this close-up turned on it's side just so you can get a more close-up and personal look at it. I simply followed the pattern in the paper to create my button hole design...makes it easy to space out the design. The next step was to add a little color just directly behind the photo area using some Shimmerz spray called 'See Ya Latte' Spritz....then I applied some home-made texture paste through a Dusty Attic stencil called Flower Power. I was going for a kind of Bohemian-chic look and I thought this daisy design would work well with it. I also matted my photo with the backside of the 'Words of Love' paper, I do love browns with blues! To continue the fabric idea of my page I also included a pretty strip of lace that I got from Tresor's de Luxe (my favorite source for beautiful lace!), which I adhered with Tombow liquid adhesive. I prefer this glue as it allows you to readjust your placement if need be without making a big mess on the paper (let the glue sit for a few minutes to set up before you apply your embellishment to the page. I had a little fun with my embellishments on this one....I tried a new product (at least to me) called Prills, they are these little balls that come in different colors. Here I using the color called A-maized. I just applied a little glue to the tops of the blossoms of the Wild-Flowers #4 chippie by Dusty Attic and poured the little pebbles onto it.....I really love the effect! I finished my design by adding some layered floral and butterfly stickers by K&Company in a few strategic areas of my photo area. Added a small shabby-chic bench embellishment by Prima and a few adhesive pearls on the lace panel. Done! I hope you enjoyed my tutorial today and hope you feel inspired to try your hand with the gorgeous new Vintage Romance collection and Dusty Attic chippies and stencils. If you are looking for a great online source for Dusty Attic and Maja Design products, you can find both at The Scrapbook Diaries. I'm always delighted to read your comments and feedback, they simply make my day, thank-you! xo
I'm so very excited to share with you a project today that I made with one of my favourite Maja collections "Vintage Summer Basics". I'm just crazy about the softly distressed designs and muted tones in this collection, and the sweet mini-florals put me in mind of a little girls ruffle dress! So I thought I would play with paper ruffles to decorate this layout that I made of my little great-niece Kiera. To make the ruffles I chose 3 of the Vintage Summer patterned papers in shades starting from light to medium to dark and cut 2 x 12" strips of each (the strips were about 1.25" thick). I then glued together each of the pairs of strips to make 3 x 24" strips. TIP: I like to tear the two edges that I'm gluing together rather than attaching two cut edges, it helps give a more seamless look. I then took each of the strips and lightly spritzed them with water and then began taking one edge and gathering them with my fingers. Be careful not to gather too deeply into the ruffle, you want the other edge to have a nice curvey edge. I then let the gathered paper dry thoroughly. Then I took some good strong two-sided sticky tape, opened out my ruffle again so it's flat and ran the sticky tape along the backside of the pleated edge. Now bring the ruffle back together, the tape will hold the ruffle together and will also create the adhesive to attach your ruffle to the page. Layer your ruffles from light to dark for a pretty effect. Here are a few close-up pic's of my page... Supplies: Patterned Paper: Maja, Vintage Summer Basics (1908-bs, 1911, 1920, 1922-bs), Chipboard: Dusty Attic Designs (NEW deVine Frame Set, and NEW Flutterbies #3), Flowers: Jolee Boutique, Prima, Dusty Attic and Recollections (nest/eggs). Other: lace trim, kitchen twine, pearl strand all off the roll from local fabric store, adhesive: Tombo 2 sided sticky tape strip. A few people have asked me what that tattered sting stuff is that I use around my floral clusters. It's a roll of yarn I bought at our Michaels craft shop, from the yarn area. I've posted a picture below so that you can see what it looks like. A roll of this stuff goes a long long way and with a 40% off coupon, I think the whole roll cost me only like $3.00 I hope you give paper ruffles a try! The Maja papers are of such a high quality, thick and strong so they can take plenty of paper manipulating. The ruffle technique works beautifully on cards as well!
It is December, and winter is on it's way. In Norway, we have had snow a few days already, although it seems like rain and floods is taking over in Norway at the moment. A few weeks ago, Hobbykunst had just got the new papers, Home for Christmas, from Maja design. I ended up with a few of the papers, and I ended up with a box with a winter scene on the lid. I have used the papers Friends, Diecuts and Welcome winter from the Home for Christmas collection The silver trees are from Søstrene Grene, while the little hardwood tree is hand made. I have sprayed the roof with sprayglue, and added glitter. This helps to evenly distribute the glue for the glitter on the roof. The kids and the deers are only about 2cm tall, and are handmade diecuts. The inside of the box has been covered with Brought you a gift from Maja's Home for Christmas Collection. Under the tag, I have used wooden chipboard from Wycinanka, from Wild Orchid Craft. I have also used snowflake diecuts, made with a Martha Stewart punch Template for the Glitter House / Puts House Template for the oval box The oval box, is a box I have published a template for before. Hello my friends! I'm in such a great mood today, I so 'delighted' to be sharing with you all my first layout using the gorgeous new 'Coffee in the Arbour' collection by Maja Design! I received my collection package a few days ago in the mail and I literally dug into it the second it got here! :) I just love the beautiful summery images in this collection, just looking at these papers puts a spring in my step and ....maybe a little hunger in my tummy! LOL! One of my favorite papers in this collection is the "Delicious Moments" paper, the beautiful hand painted vignettes evoke feelings of bliss and happiness. So I knew I had to include at least one of the pretty pictures in my first design. I wanted to keep a shabby-chic look to the page design so I tore the edges of the picture to keep a distressed look to it. I wanted to frame the pretty 'Enjoying the moment' paper with a complementary color paper but I didn't want to lose the designs close to the edges. So I trimmed out the design I wanted to keep and then bought the edge down into the page creating a little 'arbour' effect with a trellis design underneath it. I also used a harlequin stamp (Prima) and some text/script stamps (Bo Bunny) around the photo area. I was so delighted to find an awesome paint spray that is the perfect match to this collections pretty deep rose colors. I used Shimmerz 'Bed of Roses' Spritz paint for the background behind the photo area, it has the nice deep, cool rose color that goes well with the images in the papers. (NOTE: if you are looking to add some Shimmerz paints to your mixed media products be sure to put my name 'Gabrielle Pollacco' into the INSTRUCTIONS TO MERCHANT space when you check out, you will then be sent a FREE sample sized jar of Dazzlerz or Texturez or a full sized bottle of Dimensionz or Shimmerz of your color choice)...you can find the Shimmerz online store HERE). And speaking of delight.....that's what I see in my youngest daughters face in these photos. She had lost her front teeth in this pic but that did not discourage her from giving me some big gummy smiles! The chipboard title I used here is a new one from Dusty Attic Designs. I painted it with gesso, then gave it a little bit of Shimmerz Key Lime paint at the edges and then gave the whole thing a coat of Glossy Accents. I used a variety of blooms on this one, some lose blooms from Michaels (in the bargain bin) and some Recollections blooms as well. The small white blooms are Prima and the natural cluster with the twine are from Tressors de Luxe etsy shop. Maja Design papers used in this project: Coffee in the Arbour (Enjoying the Moment, Raspberry Jam, Delicious Moments), Vintage Autumn Basics (XVI). Looking for Maja Design papers in North America? My friend Janene at the Scrapbook Diaries just got in the full collection of 'Coffee in the Arbour', she has them available as full collection packs (12x12 and 6x6 for the cardmakers out there) and in individual sheets....you can find her HERE. Thanks so much for stopping by my blog today and for all the kind and sweet feedback you all leave me in your comments, they mean so much to me! xo xo

Maybe you remember that I told you 14 days ago that I had recived the gorgeous new papers from Maja Design? The new collection called Vintage Summer Basics. And now I have some new cards to show you. {You can also read this post in the Maja Design blog} As many knows it is soon confirmand time here in Norway, and I have a couple of cards to make. And since I don't have a lot of spare time, I have made matching sets with cards. And no colouring this time, that saves me a lot of time, since I usually use 1-3 hour painting a singel image. First I will show you some wallet cards that I have made. I got the inspiration from Petras lovely tutorial HERE, but I have changed it a bit. Under you see the front of one of the cards. Look at the lovely paper I have chosen here!:) Here is what it looks like inside. The texts are from Stempelglede. I have made the opening for the money with a Word Window Punch. With a card to write a greeting on inside. From the other side: My next wallet card: I have also stamped a text down inside the wallet. And here comes my third and last from this set. In gorgeous blue colours. Here is the back of all the three wallet cards: ♥♥♥ I have also made three more confirmand cards with this amazing papers. I think I am addicted;) For these cards I have used the stamp Maribel from Stempelglede. Also text and swirls are from them. The tag and butterfly are made with DooHickeys dies from Magnolia. Some close ups on some details: All the four cards: Hope you liked the new papers as much as I did!! Please visit the Maja Design blog for more inspiration with this goooorgeous papers!;) Thank you for visiting, and have a lovely weekend ♥
Hi!!!! My first layout to share today is using the collection Vintage Summer Basics. I opted to create something girly for a change. I love that these collections cater for everyone!! This is my sweet little niece who just turned 4 back in August. She had her face painted at her party and I snapped this adorable picture of her. These papers are gorgeous, fit for any little princess. "4" These butterflies are from 2 Crafty chipboard, they are gorgeous!! Pretty Prima flowers and trinkets. Here I would like to share a really quick run down on my process for this layout. I started out with my background paper and scraped some Gesso on it to whitewash the flower print. I did this only on the section were I planned my embellishments to go. I didn’t want to cover too much of the print as it is so stunning! Using a mask and texture paste I applied the mask down the centre of the page. Then I sprayed some Shimmerz mists to the masked area. Also taking the lid off to add flickers of paint. I then applied my photo mat to the centre of my page. I distressed coordinating papers at different sizes and layered them along with some calico material and string/twine. My next layers consisted of some transparency and then I used foam tape to attach the photo to the centre. Once this was in place it was then ready to embellish with all of the pretty flowers and trinkets. My second project today is a Mini Wishing Well. I asked my best friend what she would like for her birthday and she said “Make me something”!! So this is what I come up with………now to get it all the way over the other side of the country!! I have also used the Vintage Summer Basic collection. This time using the blue and grey papers. I just loved this weatherboard paper and it was a perfect fit with this wishing well! I just cut the papers to fit the sides and adhered. I then used some texture paste and paint to add some colour to the grey. My third creation today is a layout featuring the collection "It's Christmas Time" I chose to create with a red, white and gold colour palette. I picked out a cute pic of the boys from our 2012 Christmas shoot…….it’s almost time to do it all again!!! I really enjoyed working with this Christmas collection, it’s subtle, gorgeous and truly festive! "Love & Joy" Just some closeups of the details for you: Lots of glitter, sequins and Shimmerz were added. I hope you have enjoyed my Maja creations, I have one more post going up on the Maja blog this weekend. Have a great day, thanks for visiting xo
Every month Maja Design has this really cool Mood Board Challenge going....it's a really fun and inspirational board that suggests colors, text, embellishments and moods. This months mood board was made to work with the Vintage Summer Basics collection but there are many other Maja Design papers that work really well with the mood board as well. I just love using the mood board to inspire a page. I loved the feminine pretty photos in the mood board and I chose a number of the words to use on my page like 'lace', 'pearls', 'shades of misty rose', 'pale peach', 'beauty', 'flowers' and 'shimmer'. And what a beautiful poem, just the thing to put you in the mood for scrapping! Here is the mood board for February if you want to play along (there is a beautiful Maja collection up for grabs for the winner!! See challenge rules at this link Maja February Mood Board Challenge) I wanted to get a nice soft feminine effect on the page so I started out with 2 layers of patterned papers from the Maja Design collection called 'Vintage Summer Basics' (1908-bs, 1921, 1925) and some torn strips from the 6x6 paper pad from the same collection. Although I had these pretty new papers to work with I wanted to be practical and use some of my older stash as well. I have all these lovely rub-on's that I've been hoarding from my days on the Daisy D's design team and I figured I will eventually have to stop hoarding and use them right? lol. The 'Life is Good' title is from one of the Daisy D's rub-on sheets and the white lace design is a rub-on from another Daisy D's rub-on sheet I had. I first did a little bit of inking with a make-up sponge and some Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet Distress Ink, I think it's the perfect color to match the pinks in the Maja collection. This also allowed the white lace rub-on to show up better on the patterned paper. Here are more close-ups of the page.... Now I have to let you know that I've had a number of people ask how I get the paper to pull down when I do those little peek-a-boo edges. Sometimes it's just easier to do a little video tutorial than to explain it. So I got my oldest daughter to hold the camera while I recorded a little piece for you to see how I do it. I have to appologize in advance about the sound quality on this video piece, my daughter taped it with my phone camera and I'm thinking she may have had her hand over the speaker while taping some parts. But I think you'll still see how easy it is to do when you watch the clip.... Here is another close-up of one of the pulled back paper edges. The key for sure is that you want to use a nice heavy weight paper that can take the paper manipulation...and you can find that in the Maja Design papers, they are a great quality paper! And finally I wanted to mention the lovely chipboard pieces I used on the this page. The loopy sweet vine you see on my page edges is a new one from Dusty Attic called 'Swirly Vines #3' and the floral chippie that I used to frame my photo is one called 'Floral Corners' that I cut up so that it would wrap around the photo. Below are a couple of steps is did in making up the frame design. The actual first step is to paint your chipboard white and then tint the leafy areas with some green chalk ink. Then you want to glue your chipboard pieces to your layout. Continue with the steps below... I like to fill in the petal areas with a bit of Glossy Accents after the Stickles dry just because I find the Stickles dry fairly flat and I love the thick glossy look they have when they are wet. Adding the Glossy accents keeps that glossy thick look to the petals. I hope these tips and tutorials have helped! If you every have any questions and would like to see a demonstration of techniques I use on my pages just leave a comment and ask....I'll see what I can do about getting tutorials posted. And if you would like to play along this month in the Maja February Mood Board Challenge you can find the rules for the challenge there as well (the main rules being that you please resize your photos to 600x600 pi and that you not put on any watermarks for the challenge page entry....also that you must use some Maja Design papers to enter the challenge). We had loads of entries last month and look forward to seeing your creations this month as well!
Just a short time ago Maja Design opened up their new Facebook page, and I noticed a lot of chatter about 'Fika' and something called Kladdkaka! Well, for those of you who are not Swedish, I should explain that Fika is the Swedish version of a 'Cafe Clatch' or tea time, where you enjoy a nice cup of coffee or tea with a lovely desert. After seeing the yummy photo's of the Swedish cake called Kladdkaka, I looked up the recipe on Pinterest and immediately handed it over to my oldest daughter Chloe who was off school this summer and really enjoying trying out recipies from Pinterest. (HERE IS A LINK TO THE RECIPE OFF OF PINTEREST KLADDKAKA a recipe by a lady named Rebecca) Well, let me tell you, this cake is DELICIOUS! If you love brownies, you will love the dense rich taste of this Swedish treat! Above is a photo we took of the cake she made (we added a dollop or real whipped cream (has to be the real stuff not that oil based stuff!) and some fresh raspberries). You can find the recipe for the cake at my blog post today at Such a Pretty Mess Blogspot (although I hear that Jenny Grotherus's recipe for Kladdkaka is even more delicious and decadent....we'll be trying out her recipe next!...thanks Jenny!!) Here is a photo I took of my daughter with her cake... Okay, so back to my layout....haha, don't get me started on topic of food, I can go on for hours! I wanted to use a paper collection that would best reflect the theme of the page so of course I had to go with the Maja Design 'Ska vi ta en Fika collection'. Here are the papers I chose to use from this lovely collection: Ska vi ta en Fika: Kärleksmums - bs, Kaffetåren den bästa är.....but I also chose to mix in a couple other collections as well to bring in pinks for the berries and a clock for 'tea time'. So I also used Vintage Summer Basics: 1923, and Crea Diem: Den oersättliga tiden, as well as some butterflies from Vintage Spring Basics: 6th of May. Here are some close-ups of the embellishments I used on the page.... The pleated flowers are some Recollections flowers that I found at Michaels and the chipboard flourish is from Dusty Attic (I wanted to keep it shabby chic looking so I painted it white, edged it with brown chalk ink, stamped on random text and finished with a crackle varnish). The natural floral clusters and lace trims are from Tresors De Luxe. Aren't they cute?? I love having these little natural floral clusters ready to go to add to a page, no muss no fuss! You can find Lucy's gorgeous lace and floral designs at her etsy site here ~~> Tresors De Luxe. You might wonder how I got the flourishes to go all the way around the edges of the inner page even though the page has been trimmed to show the polka dot paper behind? I fussy cut the bottom and right side flourishes off the page first, then trimmed my page and stuck the flourish edge back onto the cut edges. Dusty Attic has this cute Mini Cutlery chipboard set that I thought would be a perfect accent to the page, I just painted them with bronze 3D paint and squeezed on the flourish design. I cut the largest clock from the Crea Diem collection paper and edged it with some Platinum Stickles and some more Dusty Attic chipboard and another flower. To get the flaked rusted look to my chipboard, I first stamped the chipboard flourishes with some Tim Holtz Victorian Velvet ink, then I took my flat paint brush with some gesso on it and just lightly dabbed it here and there. Finally I added a gloss coat to the chipboard pieces. I hope you enjoyed my project today and hope that I've inspired you to try some Swedish baking and maybe make a page about it too! xo

So I really can't complain too much about the weather, it's been a fairly mild winter here in Canada (Ontario, at least) so far....but the past few days have been so cold and snowy. It doesn't take long for me to long for Spring! So today I thought I would scrap something that makes me happy....beautiful flowers. I used a number of papers from the beautiful 'Enjoying Outdoors' collection (Beautiful Trees-bs, Woodlands, Flourishing-bs)....also a bit of Vintage Autumn Basics (XVI) - Clocks, and Walking In the Forest (Die Cut Sheet- butterfly). I found these cute flowers that I thought were a good match for the blossoms in the photo....they are Prima Marketing flowers, but I couldn't find a name on the packaging (I think they might be from the FairyBelle collection?). I did a little painting with some Shimmerz Paints on the background. I used 'Naughty or Nice' Inklingz behind the photo area and then used a combination of 'Sage It Isn't So' Creameez and 'Greener Pastures' Inklings, splashing out from the side underneath the floral embellishments. I gave the Dusty attic chipboard scrolls a coating of 'Artie Choked' Textures. You can see in this photo, the pretty textures the green texture paste gives to the Dusty Attic chipboard Scrolls (also a new set of scrolls recently released by Dusty Attic!). I also tucked a few clocks that I cut out from the Vintage Autumn Basics XVI paper around the photo area along with some Dusty Attic green blossoms (called Grassy Knoll). And as a finishing touch I added a butterfly that I cut out of the Die Cut sheet from the Walking In the Forest collection as an embellishment on the photo. I'm super excited about the new stencils Dusty Attic has been coming out with lately.....just a couple of weeks ago I got a few of them in the mail....I used the Cross Hatch stencil behind the photo area with some home made texture paste to add a little interest there. I added a bit of texture using a new Dusty Attic stencil called 'Cross Hatch' with some home-made texture paste. I also added a new chipboard title from Dusty Attic, using the Shimmerz 'Greener Pastures' paint to color the scripted words in the title. I hope you enjoyed today's post and that it brought you a little hint of Spring on this cold winter day! It's fun to be scrapping again after a little break over the holidays....I've got another page coming up in a few days! Thanks so much for stopping by today! xo
My camera is rarely far from my reach, I love to snap those everyday photos like the one I took of my oldest daughter Chloe when we were ...
