Old Unglazed Earthenware Kendi. Majapahit style. North or East Java, late 19th century. Kendi are pouring and drinking vessels found throughout Southeast Asia since ancient times, and were used in day to day life, as well as for ritual purposes. The Majapahit style represented by this piece refers to the style of the Majapahit kingdom, which flourished in northern Java, from the 14th and 15th centuries, and had far flung influence throughout the archipelago. Similar forms of Kendi can be found from Sumatra, to East Java, Bali, Lombok and Sumba to the east. The exact origin of this piece is unknown, but is most likely from northern or eastern Java. This example has a zoomorphic spout, and a graceful tapered body ending in a capped neck and narrow filling mouth. The piece has a damaged area, a small nick on the neck, but is otherwise in good condition. Dimensions: 7 inches by 5.5 inches by 9 inches tall.

Antique Java Majapahit Style Seated Yellow Jambhala Statue God of Wealth - 23cm/9" Measures (Height) 23cm/9" An antique Majapahit style Jambhala (also known as Dzambhala, Dzambala, Zambala or Jambala) from Java, Indonesia. Jambhala is the God of Wealth and appropriately a member of the Jewel Family. He is sometimes equated with the Hindu deity Kubera. Jambhala is also believed to be an emanation of Avalokitesvara, the Bodhisattva of Compassion. Jambhala is a Bodhisattva of material and spiritual wealth as well as many other things, especially of granting financial stability. Here we see the Yellow Jambhala. He is considered the most popular and powerful of the Wealth Gods. An emanation of Buddha Ratnasambhava. He can move poverty within the six realms, increasing virtues, life span and wisdom. He is also said to be an emanation of Vaisravana, one of the "Four Great World-protecting Heavenly Kings". He is the guardian of light in Buddhism, a great charitable deity who grants fortune and protection. Lord Vaisravana lives in the northern region under the Four Heavens, at the northern crystal palace on the fourth level of Mount Sumeru. His servants are either yaksas or bhaisajya-yaksas. According to the commentary on Lotus Sutra, this heavenly king is extremely knowledgeable as his perpetual protection of the Buddhas has enabled him to receive many teachings. Here Yellow Jambhala sits in virasana, cross-legged symbol of Serenity. He has one face and two arms. His left hand holds a bag of money. He is seated on a rounded lotus leaf base which is itself sat upon a decorated pedestal. An aureole, with flaming rim, behind him symbolizes his divinity. Most Majapahit terracotta artefacts are found at Trowulan, East Java. Majapahit terracotta artefacts of my collection have in the main been incidental finds by farmers agricultural activities – or unearthed by diggers who dig pits panning the alluvial soil for gold. This is an authentic Ancient Majapahit Empire Terracotta Kendi Artefact Region: Java Indonesia Period: 13th - 15th Century Height: 23cm / 9 inches. Length: 24cm / 6.50 inches. Diameter: 16cm / 6 inches Having resided in South East Asia and the Pacific region for several decades I've a developed passion for and a trading interest in artefacts of the region. This artefact is part of a large collection that I’m selling to downsize. Terracotta pottery was an important craft during the Majapahit era. This visibly old and larger than usual Majapahit hand-crafted terracotta Kendi drinking vessel was excavated amongst the shrines of Mount Penganggungan, East Java - and will make a nice historical piece of Indonesian history. Kendi's are a well-known form in the Southeast Asian repertoire of vessels, and played a significant role in the rituals and daily life of the region ever since ancient times. Kendi's made of unglazed fired clay have a long, continuous history of use as a humble, utilitarian vessel that was ideal for its cooling properties and for its portability, such as carrying water when travelling from village to village or for a longer journey by boat. The Majapahit Empire of Eastern Java flourished during the 13th-15th centuries. It was a powerful and wealthy maritime Empire that controlled most of the trade routes through the Strait of Malacca and the Java Sea.

Ganesh is completely one-of-a-kind, consisting of two mediums of bronze and one solid piece of lava stone. Ganesh is seated upon a decorated pedestal. He holds a noose, elephant goad and a bowl of sweets with his front right hand held up in the abhaya mudra or "fear not" hand position. He is wearing a beautiful crown that highlights his large, ruffled ears. He has a large tilak on his forehead and a beautiful siraschakra behind his head. The stone base has a meditating acolyte seated in ardhapadmasana or half lotus pose with his right leg on top of his left leg and an elephant on each side of the base. ► About Lava Stone: The lava stone used was quarried in the volcanic mountains of Indonesia. The lava stone is a solid stone that is perfect for any type of location and weather conditions, hot or cold, wet or dry. The stone is versatile in that it can be colored in a wide spectrum of colors. It can also be polished or unpolished giving giving it a clean or rough feel. In humid conditions if it is left untouched it takes on a very mysterious, antique, worn look like you would see in the temple ruins of south east Asia. ✧ Materials: Hand Cast Indonesian Bronze And Lava Stone ✧ Total Height : 9- 3/4 inches (25 cm) ✧ Ganesh : 4- 3/4 x 3- 1/8 x 2 inches (12 x 8 x 5 cm) H x W x D ✧ Base Maximum Width & Depth : 3- 1/2 & 3- 1/2 inches (9 & 9 cm) ✧ Weight : 4.36 lbs (1.98 kg) ✧ Provenance : Ex-Private Indonesian Collection, collected in the 1900s in Central Java, Indonesia ✧ Ganesha is "the remover of obstacles" and invoked before any new beginings such as a new business venture, trip or the start of a new job or school year to help clear the path for success ► When you order this piece, you will receive this exact sculpture __________________________________ I will ship via registered air mail ( Malaysia Post ), 14 -21 business days worldwide.
