Earth Unreal - An adult female of the Thistle mantis (Blepharopsis mendica). Blepharopsis mendica, commonly known as the Thistle mantis, is a species of praying mantis from North Africa, the Middle East, southern Asia and the Canary Islands. They are creamy-white to beige with light green stripes and light green “veins” on the wings as adults. This species grows to about 5 to 6 cm, with little difference in size between the sexes. Males are more slender with slightly longer wings while females are bulkier with a wider prothorax. During the deimatic display, the adult rotates its head and thorax to one side and slightly spreads its wings, revealing the bright colours on the insides of its forelegs and the undersides of its hindwings, making it appear larger and more intimidating.
