I have talked previously on the blog about "day dreaming" up plans/ideas for our house, like an all white kitchen, which we completed phase 1 on our kitchen, getting us closer to the all white look and open feel. The room, other than the kitchen, that I think the most about is our master suite, you can see some current pictures under the Prince Tour tab and/or on my instagram feed. We are very fortunate to have a large master bedroom, which means a ton of design freedoms. Our master bathroom is dated; however, there is room for improvement, but that means that one of our walk in closets would have to go...which of course means Amos's. But because of our large space we could add a wall closet on the far wall and make it look like a built in. I'm not going to really talk about what I have in store for the master bathroom...yet, but focus on the design and look I want one day for our master bedroom. The very first thing that I would want to remove in the room is the blueish tile floor and replace it with real wood floor like we have in the rest of the house. However, I would want to change up the design and do a herringbone pattern, like in the pictures below. //via// //via// //via// The next thing I would like to do is add beautiful trim work and a built in mantel, kind of like we did for the front formal living room with the bookcases. I wouldn't mind incorporating the one I have in there now, but make it look like a custom built in piece. See some more beautiful inspiration photos below of what I have in mind. //via// //via// //via// //via// We like our California king bed, but we would like to upgrade it to a standard king and upgrade our mattress. A new mattress means a new bed frame and I would love to have a canopy style in our space. We stayed in a beautiful hotel on the last hitch of our honeymoon in Spain, and I would love for this space and style bed to remind us of that special time we had there. More inspiration... //via// //via// //via// And last, but not least, is an idea of what we would do as far as a built in wall closet unit if we got rid of Amos's walk in closet to accommodated for the future master bathroom redo. //via// //via// //via// Oh, and I already have this beauty ready to go for the bedroom, I just have to talk Amos into letting me get rid of another ceiling fan. He has really stuck to his guns about only letting me remove one....so far. //via// What do you guys think of this inspiration mood board for our master bedroom? One day we will start the renovation process, but we have to take one day at a time and just count our lucky stars in the mean time. :) Have a great day!
If you’ve been following along with my design journal for a while, you’ll know that I often talk about redlining plans , which refers to the process of going through floor plans, for the purpose of improving them. The process is similar to what a proofreader does with a written document, but in thi

Everyone knows what a closet is, but does anyone know what a universal design closet is? Well one way to find out is to take a trip to Columbus Ohio and visit the Universal Design Living Laboratory. You may be asking, “Mike – why would I want to go, or read about, a laboratory (which sounds like a place with a bunch of crazy scientists in white lab coats) and learn about something (universal design closets) I don’t really know what it is? Here’s 3 reasons why.Reason 1 – You have aging parents who would like to stay in their

Phew. This project was a squeaker. Ashley found out she was pregnant after the renovation was planned and wound up photographing the final space at about thirty-seven weeks. I think she’s pretty happy she didn’t bring her new baby daughter home while the paint was still drying. Take a look at the finished space!

In the last few months, I've listened to countless women complaining that their husbands would never go for a "girlie" or "frilly" master bedroom (and no, I'm not a therapist). I guess the idea of floral prints, ruffles, and pink makes these men a little uncomfortable. ;) Whatever the reason, I must just be lucky

Master bedroom makeover update using touches rustic decor
This reveal was too big to fit into just one post. I really wanted you all to be able to see the true before and after.. So I decided to break up our Master Bedroom reveal into 2 posts. The Before picture below was our house when we purchased it, with the previous owners decor. It was in need of new carpet, paint, drapes and lighting. The very dark drapes and builder light was a must go.. See below for some of our changes. Changing out lighting and hardware were easy ways we updated our new Master bedroom. We replaced the builder light to a painted white vintage chandelier and added new white curtain hardware and drapes. It made all the difference in creating a brighter, cleaner, soft Master Bedroom with lots of layered neutrals. The purely decorative electric fireplace had to go as it took up so much prime space and didn't work! The dirty old berber carpet was removed and replaced with a simple light taupe carpet. We painted all the walls from a builder off white to a neutral Benjamin Moore Elmira White. I decided I wanted to change the placement of furniture. So we made the old fireplace wall our main focal wall with striped wallpaper, creating a subtle backdrop for our King Bed frame. We had a professional wallpaper installer come and install the beige and white stripe wallpaper horizontal for us. Best money spent! Our Full Master Bedroom reveal, part 2 will in the next few days.. Stay tuned ;) Don't Miss a post... Follow me by Email or Bloglovin!
