Plus Mawr is an Elizabethan townhouse dating from the 16th century. The property was built by Robert Wynn, a member of the local gentry, following his marriage to his first wife, Dorothy Griffith (she had the money). After many years of neglect and a multiplicity of uses, the house was taken over by the Welsh heritage agency Cadw and many of the rooms restored to resemble their condition in 1665. The original architecture is unusually intact.
Medieval cottage
medieval and historical kitchens
Miniature cuisine of medieval inspiration. For this miniature kitchen of medieval inspiration, I started by making a fireplace with cardboard and fimo which I then coated and I added some stones. The beams of the frame are worked in balsa wood as well as the table, the bench, the shelves, the chest and tub for the linen. Note that there is fake water in the tub !!! The pans are cut out of flexible cardboard and painted, the dishes are modeled in clay, the vegetables (turnips, parsnips, oranges, lemons, apples, pears, garlic, onions, fruits, chicken, ham, sausages and bread are shaped in fimo clay and tinted. It is the same for the candle holder which is "soiled" by real candle. Kitchen utensils and cauldrons are also shaped in fimo clay. The exterior walls are covered with painted clay when dry. The roof is dressed in reed sticks glued one by one by hand. This medieval miniature kitchen is 23cm high, 19.5cm wide and 12cm high. I would like to point out that I did a lot of research on medieval kitchens but also on the utensils used and the vegetables and meats consumed at that time. This piece is entirely handmade, unique piece.
How did the least desirable room in the house evolve to become the trophy showroom of the contemporary home?

After five years of painstaking restoration, chef, writer and photographer Alastair Hendy has succeeded in returning his Grade II listed 16th century merchant’s house in Hastings Old Town to its pared-back Tudor glory.
This is the kitchen of Anne Hathaway's Cottage, which is a twelve-roomed farmhouse where the wife of William Shakespeare lived as a child in the village of Shottery, Warwickshire, England, about 1 mile west of Stratford-upon-Avon. Spacious, and with several bedrooms, it is now set in extensive gardens. The earliest part of the house was built prior to the 15th century. The cottage was known as Newlands Farm in Shakespeare's day and had more than 90 acres (36 hectares) of land attached to it. As in many houses of the period, it has multiple chimneys to spread the heat evenly throughout the house during winter. The largest chimney was used for cooking. (Source: Wikipedia.)
