Handwoven cotton kitchen towel. Substantial weight, will become softer and more absorbent with use. Our towels are a project we developed in order to work with a small artisanal weaving workshop in India. This project is a collaboration between makers, and many steps and hands go into the production of each piece. The yarns are dyed in our custom colors, first samples are made by the head weaver, then the production order is woven in home workshops by various weavers throughout the town. Each towel has characteristics that identify it as handmade, which remind of us the human connection made within each piece. We hope you value the wabi sabi nature of each one, hand dyed yarns, uneveness of color, wavering selvage edges and skips and textures where two yarns meet in the weft. We do not view these as flaws, but as evidence of people-created craft.Created with bright, saturated colors, the cotton towels are of substantial weight, and we love them in the kitchen for drying hands. Made in India. Approx 22” x 26

Yes, more show and tell from yesterday. Take your time and enjoy!! Katie wove two panels to make this awesome blanket. Close up of Katie's blanket. Katie chose to do some shadow weave on these towels. Larry did a repair on a shuttle. It's good to have a woodworker/weaver in the group. Becky was working on pulling her resist threads on her woven shibori. Bo wove this blanket in plain weave using a two color weft yarn. The dark brown is the warp. Almost looks like twill-doesn't it? Dawn had a jacket made from a piece of cotton denim. She dyed it light orange then put on a few resist pieces of wood on and over dyed a darker orange. She is also showing us some yardage in 2/2 twill. She dyed the wool, then spun it and then wove it. I would say that is from hoof to 'almost' coat. "Almost" until it is cut and turned into the jacket she will make it into. I think she said she is waiting for her mom to come visit to help with that part of her project.

Stylish Storage & Décor Basket The most beautiful storage solutions you’ll ever come across - our Pakurigo Wave baskets are named after the two men who created this signature technique. Created in an interwoven effort by the enormous talents that are Palash Singh and our very own Master Weaver Mr. John Akurigo, during a field trip to Ahmedabad, India in 2013. Taught to many of the artisans here, this very special technique provides a Fair Trade in Lomé to many... now that’s what we call a ripple effect! Carol's towels are both woven with a variegated slub yarn. Notice the amazing plaid created when the yarn crosses itself. The towel on the left has a lot of texture and is a waffle weave structure and the towel on the right is plain weave. However, because of the thick and thin nature of the yarn it also has a lot of texture. Carol's beautiful huck scarf won a first prize. This was woven with Carol's two ply handspun yarn in angora and Merino. She used two different sources for the yarn, so there is a slight color variation and she alternated colors in both warp and weft to give a uniform appearance to the scarf. It was hard to capture the colorful beauty of Carol's multi-color shawl. But I was so surprised when I held it up to the light in the picture below and found this glorious pattern that isn't so easily seen without the light going through it. The structure is again, huck lace, but it so different from the scarf in appearance. The warp is a rayon blend and the weft also rayon. Carol used space dyed yarns for this wool plaid blanket. The weave structure is plain weave and the variation in the color of the yarn again gives great depth to the finished blanket. Gus wove this rug after a workshop with Jason Collingwood a year ago. It now resides in her kitchen -- and what a beauty it is. The warp is linen and the weft is wool. Look for details of this rug in a future blog about finishing touches. Gus wove this colorful red, black and white lap robe for an antique car that she and her husband restored. Gus used an 8 shaft advancing twill from a draft by Bonnie Inouye. I'm going to try to get pictures of the lap robe and the car together for a future blog post.
