Friends Meetinghouse (1857) "Herbert Hoover worshiped in this building along with neighbors and relatives who were members of the religious Society of Friends, or Quakers as they were often called." Herbert Hoover was born in West Branch, Iowa on August 10, 1874. He lived in this small town until he was 9 years old. Hoover went on to become the 31st President of the United States, holding office from 1929 until 1933. Today, much of the town of West Branch that Hoover knew is preserved by the National Park Service.
