On the 19th of May 2018, people finally got to gaze upon the most talked-about dress of the year. As Meghan arrived at Windsor Castle, Kensington Palace shared all of the details about her wedding ensemble on The Royal Family’s official website – some of which we’re going to be breaking down below. The dress Meghan wore a Givenchy dress by British designer, Clare Waight Keller — the first ever female Art Director at Givenchy. The dress was made out of silk, and is a custom design that the two worked on closely together. The veil Meghan’s stunning silk tulle veil was an incredible 16 foot (or 5 metres) long. To express her gratitude for the opportunity to support the work of the Commonwealth, the flora of all 53 Commonwealth countries were delicately hand-embroidered into the veil. Meghan also chose to have Wintersweet flowers embroidered into the veil (as these are what grow in the grounds in front of the cottage she shares with Prince Harry), as well as the California poppy (which is the State flower of Meghan’s birthplace, California). Crops of wheat are embroidered into the front of the veil, to symbolise love and charity. Workers spent hundreds of hours meticulously sewing, and had to wash their hands every thirty minutes to keep the tulle and threads pristine. The tiara Meghan’s beautiful diamond bandeau tiara was lent to her by Queen Elizabeth II for her wedding day. The tiara was made for Queen Mary in 1932 as a wedding gift, and was passed down to the Queen in 1953. The centre brooch is thought to date back as far as 1893. The shoes The wedding shoes were also custom-made, and are based on a Givenchy couture design made of a silk duchess satin. The accessories To finish off her look, Meghan opted for a delicate pair of white gold and diamond stud earrings, and a matching white gold and diamond bracelet, both from Cartier. The bouquet Meghan’s bespoke bridal bouquet was designed by florist Philippa Craddock, and contained several flowers that Prince Harry handpicked from their private garden at Kensington Palace the day before the wedding. The bouquet included white Forget-Me-Nots, which were Princess Diana’s favourite, so that the couple could honour her memory on their special day. It also included scented sweet peas, lily of the valley, astilbe, jasmine and astrantia, and sprigs of myrtle, which were all bound together with a naturally dyed, raw silk ribbon. What do you make of Meghan’s choices? Are you a Givenchy or Cartier fan? Sound off in the comments below!
