This is a socio-political cartoon, C.1860. The phrase, The Arsenic Waltz alludes to the use of arsenic in dresses and artificial flowers. The illustration appeared in a British humour magazine, a few months after a worker in the fashion industry died of arsenic poisoning. Arsenic was everywhere in Victorian Britain. Although it was known to be used as a murder weapon, the cheap, natural element was used in clothing, candles, curtains, and wallpaper. Because it dyed fabric bright green, arsenic also ended up in dresses, gloves, shoes, and artificial flower wreaths that women used to decorate their hair and clothes. It would be the perfect card to give to a lover of antique skeletal art, medical illustrations, or just for that special someone. Welcome to the September Art With Heart Monthly Creative Showcase. This month the team are featuring Masculine themed cards. Every second Thursday of the month the Art With Heart Team are here to inspire you with you their amazing creations on many different themes. I usually find Masculine cards more hard to design than feminine ones with lots for flowers and fuss, but I'm very excited to show you what I have made for tonight. I used my Happy Dies and some In Good Taste DSP for the main layer. I cut another HAPPY from Early Espresso to make a shadow effect. The mat behind Happy is Balmy Blue. The BIRTHDAY stamp is from the Well Said stamp set and has been die cut with one of the Rectangular Stitched Dies made shorter by cutting once then repositioning the die to cut off the end of the die cut piece. Inside the card is a little Pop Up surprise... I have used the A Good Man stamp set to create this pop up in the center of the card. I originally found this technique demonstrated by Jennifer McGuire on Pinterest. It's a very simple technique that I will be sharing in my Online Pop Up Class on the 24th of September. The image has been stamped in Memento ink and coloured with Stampin Blends Markers. The grass across the base of the card is two layers of Friendly Silhouette Dies in Mossy Meadow and Old Olive. The Linen Tread around the base of the card is the final touch. The other Art With Heart Team members have been at their stamping desks creating more Masculine cards to inspire you. Happy Sunday! Oh my goodness! I started this post last night and then totally forgot to finish it off this morning! Truth be told I've been all OVER the place this week (yes, even more so than usual!) . On Friday I had to take my little fluffy buddy to the vet to have some biopsies done. Long story short he's 100% FINE - just fat deposits and no surgery is needed. We were pretty sure the two lumps we felt WERE just fat but there was another "mass" the vet found that had me VERY concerned. If it were sinister and needed removing it would be quite tricky. Not gunna lie ... I ate my emotions a LOT this week! I can't begin to tell you how relieved I am. The thought of losing my bestie just rips at my heart! The number of walks I fought back the tears were many. I actually put on a full face of makeup most days to ensure I didn't bawl my eyes out! lol. So! Now we can all breathe again and get back to our normal level of crazy! I must apologize for not posting on Sunday mornings, as has been my plan. I have joined a number of blog hops and those are on various days of the week/month ... and I just don't have the time to blog more than once in a week ... so I've been all rather random in my posts. I'm hoping to get a few more projects under my belt next week (not this week, I have 4 major events this week!). Bare with me as I try to find a new groove. I AM happy to report that I absolutely do NOT work as much as I did last year. Most evenings I can be found hanging with the family, playing games or watching shows. Here's a quick catch up on some of the projects I made over the last few weeks. Many of these are ones that I feature in my "Check it out Tuesday" Facebook Live events. If you don't know about those, check it out! Head to my facebook page "Tamara's Paper Trail" on Tuesday evenings at 7:00 pm mountain time. It's NEVER polished, USUALLY a gong show and ALWAYS entertaining! lol. Here are the projects ... SUCH a quick and easy masculine card ... I used the trees from the Medley "Most Wonderful Time" but there are MANY trees that would work if you don't have that stamp set. The trees in the Merry Moose, Snow Front, Waterfront, Let it Ride, or Rooted in Nature would work too! The deer are from the Snow Front set. I used Mossy Meadow and Soft Suede inks. The sentiment is from Piece of Cake. The next card I CASED from Lori Heling - I made some minor changes but it's her design. I made my own buffalo check flag using the stamp set of the same name. I stamped Old Olive ink on Soft Sea Foam card stock and then drew lines with my Night of Nave marker. I used my Old Olive, Crumb Cake and Smoky Slate blends to colour the image, and my Tin Tile Embossing Folder for the background. Great card Lori! The next card is one that I really CASEd from myself. I forgot I vowed never to use that leaf die ever again .. it's a royal PAIN to get the paper out of it ... alas, I like what I like and it had to be done. I used the Birch background stamp in Crumb Cake ink, the sentiment from Country Home, the mat in Sahara Sand and the leaves in Cherry Cobbler, Cajun Craze and Pretty Peacock. I made the same card with a Pretty Peacock mat instead of Sahara Sand. I like it better. This one was a lot of fun to make. I used the Perennial Essence paper, Rich Razzleberry CS and the dies from Tasteful Backgrounds. The sentiment is from Woven Heirlooms. So pretty! The next project was CASEd from my friend and downline Nicole Zandbergen. We ran the lids of the coffins through the Big Shot with the Scroll folder and then sponged it with silver and Gold "Delicata" ink. I used the Monster Bash designer paper for the image and sentiment and added some embellishments for fun. Last up is a SUPER quick and easy card made with the Very Versailles stamp set and Garden Lane designer papers. I used Mossy Meadow paper and ink, as well as Soft Sea Foam ink. Quick and easy! I think that brings us up to date so I'll sign off as I have about another 20 minutes left in setting up for class tomorrow and then it's time to hang with my peeps! I hope you had a great weekend and your week ahead is a stampy one! Thanks for popping in :) Tam
In class this week we're making the very simple masculine cards I showed you here, but I also wanted to give my ladies something with a 'bit more' to get their teeth into. A perusal of Pinterest gave me some great ideas, so I hauled out some Tim Holtz dies my DH bought me a while ago which had never seen the light of day (*guilty face*) and reached for my texture paste. Here's what I ended up with: Firstly I coloured my texture paste with 3 drops of re-inker and applied that to my stencil, randomly using a dabbing motion at the end because I wanted a mix of rough and smooth textures. While that dried I cut my cogs, making sure to use the precision mat for delicate dies so they cut sharply and were easy to remove. I stamped the car and coloured it using ink and a blender pen. Some of the cogs have extra layers for dimension and added interest - the ones at the top and side that protrude past the border, plus the bottom right hand one. Overall, I'm happy with how it turned out and even 'He Who Is Particularly Fussy And Difficult To Please' thinks it's pretty nice. Materials used: stamps - Guy Greetings card - basic black, very vanilla, baked brown sugar other - stitched oval dies, Big Shot, Tim Holtz cog dies, texture paste, silicone mat, spatula, Dimensionals, stencil, blender pen, precision plate Hope you get the chance to play creatively today. Thanks for calling in. Cheers Kez
Welcome to this month’s Enjoy the Little Things Video Blog Hop where our theme is all things Masculine. I needed a masculine birthday card and saw the Freshly Made Sketches challenge and thought it would be a good fit. My end results are not quite in keeping with the challenge layout so I'm not going to share it over there but definitely wanted to give credit for the idea! My banners ended up being too wide not leaving enough open space on one side like the sketch. I still love how it came out and it was fun to use the large banner from the new Stylish Shapes die set. I did use colors from the Color Throwdown challenge though so I'll be sharing it over there. These are great guy colors and I was so happy to have DSP for all three! I started with a Night of Navy base, then a layer of Basic White embossed with the Brick & Mortar embossing folder. Next I cut 3 banners and then snipped the end off one side to create the space for the stamped sentiment. I lined the banners up and adhered the pieces with dimensionals. I added a baker's twine bow to the Crushed Curry banner before adhering. I really like the size of this banner die, it can be used for a larger feature on a card front, for sentiments or for trimming and just using the flagged ends. Thanks for looking! Did you stamp today? Stamps: Sweet Ice Cream Ink: Night of Navy Paper: Night of Navy, Basic White, Tea Boutique DSP, Well Suited DSP (retired) Accessories: Brick & Mortar embossing folder, Stylish Shapes dies, dimensionals, baker's twine
Time for another birthday, this time for my son, Matt. He's currently stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland, so I don't get to see him and his family very often. But I always remember the day he was born, and today, celebrate. I love Night of Navy and Crumb Cake for a masculine card, don't you? I turned to Everything Amazing for my images, and then remembered the Merry Christmas dies, which has this wonderful "Happy" die. Isn't it perfect for a birthday? A Night of Navy card base has a layer of Crumb Cake, and then I ran another piece through my embossing machine with the Corrugated embossing folder for a little texture. After stamping my images in Night of Navy ink on Very Vanilla cardstock, they were cut with the Layering Squares dies and adhered to Navy squares cut with Stitched Shapes dies. Then there's that "Happy": I cut it out three times, twice in navy and once in Crumb Cake. Then I stacked them all together, adhering them with Multipurpose Liquid Glue. I love the depth and "shadow" effect you can achieve using this technique. And those Merry Christmas dies has a great little die that was a perfect frame for my "birthday" stamp! I love it when I can use my products for other than what they were intended. Happy Birthday, Matt!
