Blooming in a lovely shade of coppery rose, Foxglove ‘Mertonensis’ brings tall stalks of bell-shaped flowers and tidy green foliage to the back border. Growing 3-4’ tall, this biennial foxglove is happiest in full to part shade gardens and is easy to care for. Cutting plants back to their base after flowers have faded may bring a second round of blooms. Deer resistant. (Digitalis x mertonensis)

Elaine Kazimierczuk A diptych showing the riotous colours of the natural planting in the Merton Borders at the Oxford Botanic Garden. The seeds from South American species which prefer arid conditions, have been broadcast and thereafter, the plants have been left to seed naturally. What we say about the painting " this large scale painting has a huge impact on any room or interior. Elaine paints with energy and style and this is evident in all of her paintings. "

About Elaine Kazimierczuk Large Merton Beds 2 Original Abstract Landscape Painting Oil Paint on Canvas Canvas Size: H 150cm x W 150cm Sold Unframed (Please note that in situ images are purely an indication of how a piece may look). This large dramatic oil painting was made as part of a landscape panorama which measures 7m across in total. Although the four pieces were made as a complete work, they made be hung separately or as any two or three panels, choosing those which keep the continuity of the image, if they are to be hung together. This piece is the second panel from the left of the series. The work represents an area of the Oxford Botanic Gardens which has been planted with sustainability in mind. The result is a riot of colours of mixed species mostly drought tolerant. I adore the chaotic assemblage of beauty in these flower beds. They are extensive, so the work deserves this treatment on a large scale. Elaine Kazimierczuk studied chemistry at university and taught for many years before becoming a professional artist. She has written and illustrated a series of books on local history besides a monograph on the religious works of the prominent sculptor Peter Eugene Ball, with whom she collaborated on many major commissions. She is a trustee of Midlands-based Ice-age Archaeological Insights and produces visual interpretations of prehistoric people and their environment. In addition to the demand for her landscapes, there is a growing clientele for her portraiture. She has been shortlisted for the 2016 BP National Portrait Award. Many of Elaine Kazimierczuk’s works are based on interpretations of intimately-known localities, frequently, but not exclusively, in her native Nottinghamshire. In her semi-abstract studies of meadows, trees and hedgerows, she achieves a tension between looseness and control, which enables her to convey that intricate assembly of wild beauty. Frequently working on a red ground, which resonates with the vibrant overpainting, she adopts a bold approach, so that there is an evident freedom, just short of capriciousness, either of hand or eye, in the brushwork. Her works represent the ordered chaos of the natural world with energy and vitality. Elaine Kazimierczuk has recently been awarded the Mary Moser Prize for 2018. This is an Oxfordshire Art Weeks prize awarded to a person who has changed career and taken up art professionally later in life.
