Hauteur de plafond démesurée, charpente et poutres apparentes, pierres brutes au sol, ouvertures immenses et terrasses donnant sur le Pacifique...cette résidence luxueuse, située à Malibu, est la retraite de bord de mer de l'antiquaire Richard Shapiro. Elle prend des airs méditerranéens avec ses murs enduits à chaux puis sablés pour leur donner une patine antique. La sobriété des lignes des meubles s'accorde parfaitement à la vieille cheminée de Chypre, au miroir italien en bois doré du 17e et au panneau de mosaïques en pierres phéniciennes du 18e. L'escalier est magnifique avec sa rambarde en ruban d'acier qui amène à la mezzanine où se situent la chambre et la salle de bains. Sobriété aussi pour le coin cuisine en basalte et laque noire. La bibliothèque est entièrement recouverte de tadelakt, ce qui, avec les gravures égyptiennes et les objets marocains, contribue à accentuer cet atmosphère méditerranéenne.
