After a week and a half of guest posts around here...I.am.back. And if feels good :) I always miss this little blog of mine when I take off a few days/weeks to move, regroup, or whatever the case may be! So I'm happy to be here and excited for the next few weeks. I'll be sharing a bit about our road trip and some upcoming design plans for my bedroom. Today I'm showing off a beautiful town home I found over on Traditional Home. There are so many unique and special aspects to the home...I couldn't get enough! Things I'm loving: 1. The gray kitchen cabinets 2. All the built-in bookcases 3. Mix-matched chairs around the dining table 4. The turquoise and gold dresser 5. Pretty wallpaper 6. How comfy and cozy and retreat-like the town home feels What are your favorite things about this Virginia Row Home?? To see more photos, go here. Have a wonderful day! Love,

All photos via Traditional Home Dreamy home, right?? After a relatively stressful week, I could sit in that bathtub for hours, indulging in the new bubble bath I purchased. Aside from the fun details and texture of the home, here are my three favorite things about this Nantucket vacation home: 1. The wide-plank hardwood floors. Seriously swoon. 2. The way the TV's are built into the fireplace and made to look like they belong, instead of sticking out like a sore thumb.3. The smartly designed color story. Each room has neutral walls, but has its own personality seen in the color of the furniture, curtains, fabrics and lighting specially chosen for that space. Speaking of lighting...can we discuss the kitchen lighting? Perfection in my opinion! Homes like this literally take me to another world...well, at least for the weekend :) Doesn't it make you want to take the weekend to get away?! What are you favorite aspects of this abode? Happy Weekend! Love, PS. Welcome my sponsor Brittany from Gallery No. Eight Brittany is a darling, sweet friend who shares my love for design and fashion. This girl is so talented. This quarter I'm taking a class called Housing. Every aspect you think of in the housing realm will be covered. I'm actually really excited about it because for some reason, I'm obsessed with houses, their floor plans, their value and how people function in them. You may remember the advice my mom gave me before a first date..."don't draw any floor plans on the napkin at dinner!" Really, mom...(: Yesterday in class we talked about the evolution of houses. The first homes ever built were small, one room houses with a basic set of four walls. That grew into a little larger home with one or two bedrooms. After WWI, privacy and neighborhoods became very important to people. More emphasis was placed on the family and on women's roles in the house. If you look at a home built in a certain time period, you can clearly see what was important to the family through the floor plan. A large kitchen with a dining room close by (for the betty crocker mom to perform her duties in), a separate living room, and more clearly defined spaces were important to families in post war times, today it is much different. We look a newly built homes and we're seeing a lot of eco friendly design, importance on function, more bedrooms (each with their own function), large gourmet kitchens (even if you don't cook!), and a Great Room instead of separate living and family rooms. Studying this sort of thing, as well as the styles of homes got me to thinking. I'm wondering what type of homes my friends and readers live in?! Do you live in a bungalow (craftsman), modern or contemporary home, georgian or colonial, ranch, tri-level, townhouse, cottage, or victorian? Take the poll on my sidebar about which style of home you live in! And within the style of the house you live in, tell me in the comments what do you love or not love about the way it functions? These are all questions interior dorks like me wonder (: I'm excited to be sharing my knowledge from this class with you! Happy Friday!! Super fun giveaway coming on MONDAY! Love,
The other day I looked into my closet and realized the majority of my recent clothing purchases are blue and white! I also realized that my the dream house I have concocted in my head also contains a lot of blue and white (with touches of seaglass!) I couldn't get this color combo out of my head, and since it was pretty appropriate for Memorial Day this week, I thought I'd share some inspiration with you! This tile... As you all know, I was in the process of redesigning my bedroom all last summer. This would be the combined result of going through a break up and needing to stay busy {totally worked, by the way!}, being at your parent's house for the summer, and realizing your bedroom needed a little TLC :) I'm head-over-heels for Caitlin Wilson Textile's pretty fabric, so those were the hues that determined the direction of my color story, as you might remember. All you readers helped me pick my paint color over in this post, so thank you! Fresh minty walls and rejuvenating peachy pink accents -- that was enough to make me swoon! I refinished the white dresser {a Goodwill find for only $70}, gave the nightstand a fresh coat of dove gray paint, sewed the curtains with my sweet grandma's help, and put together a collection of architectural paintings and prints by talented artists for the gallery wall above my desk {all artists are credited below in the source list}. Now when I'm blogging and working on client projects, I have something extra pretty and inspiring to glance up at every once and a while. As a lover of all things handmade, I made sure to hunt down my favorite etsy shops and add some specialty pieces to my room. You helped me choose which pillows to have made for my bed in this post. I'm a firm believer in absolutely adoring the place you call home by filling it with treasures you love {more on this subject in my post from yesterday}. I'm also pretty sure a certain english cream golden retriever will make you smile almost every time you see her. Miss Hope is my personal assistant and sometimes we take breaks to read the latest House Beautiful together :) In case you missed my feature on Made By Girl last week, you can enjoy my full room tour and source list below! Photography by John Bessler for Traditional Home As I prepare for a big move across the country, I have been scouring the wealth of inspiration on the internet and my design magazines. The thought of decorating my own place is exciting and daunting simultaneously. Is that feeling familiar for anyone?! Also, I need to note that designing client's homes is SO much easier compared to putting decor together for your own place. #interiordesignerproblems This stunning home, pictured above, has so many elements I gravitate towards. A sweet porch, lots of wood, exposed beams, beautiful fireplaces and most of all, gorgeous lighting everywhere. I definitely want to incorporate a lot of wood {possibly weathered wood!} pieces into my apartment. In fact, I am getting a barn wood dining table made by my boyfriend's friend, just for little ole me! I can't wait for that! What elements do you love from this beautiful home, built in the 1600's? {Fun fact-- George Washington slept in this house!
