In England, between 1957 and 1965 produced two series Scootacar - MkI and MkII. The first version was so "stretched" vertically, it seemed that she would not ride, and ride on the road. With five-foot height, as well as the fact that it is often painted in red, people called clipper "phone booth". Officially, she was called Scootacar, which clearly indicated the hybrid scooter (scooter) and vehicle (car). This relationship aggravated driving a motorcycle type. In 1959 the British released a fully revised second version of the machine, and two years later added them to its more powerful engine. However, the modification is not productive in demand: amateurs to ride in a telephone booth at a speed of 100 km / h for some reason it turned out a little.

The name of this three-speed vehicle combines the first names of Arliss Sluder and his wife Beth, from Montana. It took Arliss 7 years of labour and over 5000 hand made parts to build this little car. Top speed was 70 km/h with its 2 cylinder 13 hp Onan engine and it drove 80 kms on a gallon. In 1993 the Guinnes Book of Records called it the smallest street legal car in the world: 102 cm wide and 229 cm long. Arliss cruised over 22,000 km with his microcar. This is a colorized black & white picture.

But I loathe the beastly, gas-guzzling monstrosities that lately seem to rule the road. These miniature vehicles are commonly referred to as […]
