My goal this week is to get my travel journal created and ready to go for our trip to Maine (which is a good goal since we are leaving on Friday! eek!) I am hoping to share little bits of that process throughout the week. Starting it off I want to show a little bit of what has been inspiring me lately. I love Pinterest and the ability to quickly find great ideas from all over. Here are a few I really (click on the photos to go to original source): I LOVE this whole book Kara made with vintage postcards (and not just because she got them from my Etsy Shop!). I am thinking of using her idea of stapling the cards together to make a few pages in my book. From A Beautiful Mess Making little pockets and keeping bits of the beach - or other travels sewn in. From Martha Stewart. Use maps as pages - love the sewing too! From Just Perspective For more ideas check out my Travel Journals Pinterest Board or check out my past journals here on the blog! And if you are needing vintage supplies for your own journal be sure to check out my Etsy Shop. I will be closing the shop on Thursday for almost 2 weeks - so be sure to get your supplies now!!!
It's been way too long, since I last posted. The holiday season, just seem to take up so much time with shopping, creating, visiting, cooking, etc, and before you know it, you are already into the New Year! I love...

Winter CHA has come to a close and the ordering/shipping has begun!! Hopefully Tales of You and Me will be at your fingertips very soon. You really want this gorgeous collection created by my wonderful creative friend Frank Garcia for Prima Marketing. I am in love, and so lucky to have been invited to the very first Frank Garcia Design Team!! The Memory Hardware that adorns this journal is also incredibly beautiful!! I had a blast creating this mini using The Memory Hardware Journal - Gatefold created by Frank. There a few different size and types of albums ready for you to adorn. They are all fantastic! This is the front of the journal. To prepare the album. I edges all of the edges with Chalk Edger in Vintage Pink. I adhered a brown card stock to all of the pages including the covers. For the cover, sides and back I used 12x12 Tales of You & Me-Jardin de Fleurs. For the inside I used a variety of papers from the collection. Here is a close up of the journal. I die cut a frame from corrugated cardboard sprayed it with Color Blooms in Empress Gold, cut it in half and adhered it to either side of the front covers. The Memory Hardware - Montmartre Latch was used for the closure. When you first open the Memory Hardware Journal - Gatefold , this is what you see. I die-cut a frame, sprayed it with Color Bloom - Empress Gold and layered some corrugated cardboard and patterned paper over the top page. I distressed the edges and sprayed the exposed cardboard with the Empress Gold as well. This is a close up of the die cut frame. I also gave the page a light spray of the Empress Gold. I added another die cut and sprayed it with the Empress Gold Color Bloom spray and added the Memory Hardware - Louviers Antique Chain and attached them with Memory Hardware - Villeneuve Antique Rings. The sign is free hanging and ready for journaling or a photo. The opposite page has a pocket I created to hold tags and cutouts from 12x12 Tales of You & Me-Contes de Toi et Moi paper. I created a pocket page on this section as well. All of the tags were die cut and the cutouts were just tucked into the pocket. I created a vertical waterfall feature using the cutouts from the 12x12 Tales of You & Me-Contes de Toi et Moi. There is plenty of real estate in this journal for photos and journaling. When putting the pages together using the patterned paper, I have used the Memory Hardware - Artisan Adhesive Tape. This tape is like no other. It adheres and hold up so well. On the back of each page, I added a die cut frame for more photos. I sprayed the frames with Empress Gold Color Bloom Spray. This is how thick the journal is when all closed up. Three are 6 pages total. For the spine of the journal, I punched 3 holes on the top and placed eyelets for strength. I created a dangle for the spine by stringing the Memory Hardware Glass Pearls and a few of my jewelry spacers (from my personal stash) onto an eye-pin. The Memory Hardware - La Rochelle Antique Trinkets are hanging from Memory Hardware - Louviers Antique Chain and I attached them with Memory Hardware - Villeneuve Antique Rings. ONce each dangle was created, I strung them onto the largest ring and placed them through the middle hole I created on the spine. Here is a close up of the dangles I created. Here is the back of the journal. Thank you for joining me for a look at the gorgeous collection Tales Of You And Me. This is a collection that is a must have. Especially if you like shabby chic Romantic. Valentines Day is coming up!! Think of what you can create with this collection. It is perfect!! Mannequins lead terrible lives. Every day, they stand in the same place, posing the same way. Ruthless retail employees even detach their limbs and strip them naked on a regular basis, too. Naturally, these poor creatures seek new experiences, adventures that would brighten up their dull days. Bored Panda has collected some of the funniest times when mannequins escaped the norm, proving shopping can still be fun.
Great ideas for adding some “currently” items in your Project Life journaling. digishoptalk.
This is a DIY Book Binding Tutorial on how to make that Elusive Perfect DIY Journal You've Been Waiting For! Easy to make & oh-so-nice!
Antico Valore This is the only drawing I managed to make during the trip. I always bring my watercolors with me on trips and almost never get a chance to use them. This gorgeous tiny book measures 1 x 1.5 inches and it's about an inch thick.
I have been wanting to try making an art journal for a long time now and I finally gave it a go! For me, Websters Pages and Dusty Attic are two companies that just go so well together! So I used the Dusty Attic Arched Window Set DA#0569 and one of their title chippies (Art) DA0386 along with Websters Pages Western Romance Papers, WP Ribbon, WP Stamps (Beauty stamped on frame) and WP Postcards (birds). I got my journal book at a local dollar store and other than the above items I added a bit of simple kitchen cheesecloth and some pearl strands. I treated the DA frame with some cream color paint, brown chalk ink, some script/flourish stamping and finally coated it all with some Tim Holtz Rock Candy (crackle finish). Here are a few close-up pic's of the book.... Now I have somewhere to keep page ideas I come up with, little hand drawn sketches or even notes for my design team work. My daughter saw this one and now wants me to make her one too....so you may see some more of these books pop up on my blog :) ....Keep an eye out, hint hint, Dusty Attic and Websters Pages will be teaming up and sharing projects from their DT's in a few weeks time!

Last year I took a wonderful book binding class at the International Printing Museum in Torrance. It was taught by Book Artist Lucia Frias Villarreal . She has a Masters degree in bookmaking, so I feel I learned from the best! She taught us Coptic binding which was developed in Egypt as early as the second century AD. Essentially it is a stitching method where you attach your pages "signatures" to your covers. I have collected several drink coasters from Chili's and thought they would make some great starter covers for my mini books. I had all of these wonderful Vintage images I collected to use for my Summer inspired projects, but didn't end up using all of them. So I printed out my favorites and started stitching away. Traditionally you would use a special waxed string. I ended up using bakers twine which I waxed myself using a tea light! I really loved how they came out. I used some vintage book pages from damaged books for my signatures. {coptic edges} {i love this vintage Barbie image} {inside the signatures you can see the bakers twine} {the pages are from old books, a toy collectors catalog and a family satire from the 70's} I am thinkin of offering this for a class at the Vintage. They are so fun to make, and a bit challenging! -Denise
