My Creative Scrapbook design team member Kristin Greenwood is up today with a tutorial featuring our November Album Kit! Here's Kristin: >><< Here is a tutorial on how I made my second mini album using a letter size manila folder! You will need a file folder with the tab at the top. Open the file folder so that the tab is in the top right corner. **Open the file folder so that the tab is in the upper right corner.** Fold the bottom of the folder up about 4 inches. When you fold the bottom up, the left side of the folder must match up with the cut out tab. Fold the left side of the folder to the center line. The tab will hang over. Fold the right side over to the left side until the "binding" matches up. This is what it should look like from the top. Cover with pattern paper. Adhere each side to create the pocket. (The part you folded up on each side) Adhere chipboard to front and back to finish mini album. >><< Be sure to take a look at Kristin's beautiful work in our Design Team Gallery! We invite you to join us and experience the possibilities that our coordinated monthly kits offer. To purchase a kit, please visit our website, here.

Star books are such a great way to display atcs or photos, and they're not as difficult to make as you might think. Here's how to make a colorful 4 1/2" x 6" book like this one, perfect for spring-themed atcs or whatever you wish. Supplies Needed 2 pieces of sturdy matboard: 4 1/2" x 6" 2 pieces of cover paper for matboard cover: 6" x 7 1/2" Black pages, 7 pieces cardstock: 4 1/2" x 12" Small red filler pages: 14 pieces of cardstock: 4 1/2" x 2 1/2" Red pages, 7 pieces of cardstock: 4 1/2" x 9" Cream pages, 7 pieces of cardstock: 6 1/2" x 8" Beads for spine decoration (optional) 2 yards waxed linen thread At least 2 feet of ribbon for closure PVA glue Glue Stick Double Sided Tape Tracing paper Let's start with the cover. Using a glue stick, glue your matboard onto the wrong side of the cover paper you have chosen, and trim the corners as shown. Carefully fold the sides in and glue securely to the back of the cover. Decorate the covers any way you like. I used paper flowers and images from The Lovely Garden collage sheet from Alpha Stamps. Now, let's fold the first of your pages: the black pages and the small red filler pages. Fold the black pages in half so that you have 7 folded sheets measuring 4 1/2" x 6". Fold the small red filler sheets so that you have 14 folded sheets that are 4 1/2" x 1 1/4". These are the pages that will actually be sewn, with the red papers inside the fold of the black page. Make a template for your stitching out of tracing paper. Mark the top and bottom of the pages, and make four marks for the holes you will punch. The top and bottom holes (end holes) should be about 1/2" from the edge of the pages, and the two center holes should be about 1 1/2" from the edges. Use this template to punch holes in each of the seven nested signatures with an awl or needle punch. Each signature should have one black sheet, with two of the smaller red sheets nestled within. Thread your waxed linen with two needles, one at each end. Take the first signature (one black page with two red pages inside) and thread the needles from the inside to the outside through the two center holes. Then cross the needles and thread them back through the center holes towards the inside of the signature. Bring each needle back to the outer spine of the signature through its closest end hole. Now add the second signature. Thread the two needles through the corresponding end holes to the inside of the second signature from the outside spine, and pull the thread fairly snug. On the inside of this signature, thread each needle through its nearest center hole to the outside of the spine. On the 2nd, 4th, and 6th signature, add beads if desired. Thread them through one needle and then thread the other needle through the beads before going back through the center hole to the inside of the signature. Then, thread the needles back out through the end holes as before. Continue sewing each set of your seven signatures in this way. On the pages that don't have beads, just cross the threads before going back through the center holes. When you have added the last signature, you will end up with the needles on the inside of the pages in the center holes. Tie the threads off with a square knot. Whew! That was the most tedious part. When the book is closed, you will have six sets of black pages that are back to back. Using a glue stick, carefully glue these six sets together, so that each set makes one page. Set the book under some weights to let it dry. Meanwhile, fold your remaining pages. Fold the red pages in half so that you have seven 4 1/2" x 4 1/2" pages. Fold the cream pages in half for seven 6 1/2" x 4" pages. Fold the 6 1/2" side of the cream paper up two inches to make a pocket. This page should now be 4 1/2" x 4". If you wish, round the corners of the pocket with a corner punch. Then, using a thin doublestick tape, affix tape to the outside edges of the pockets where they will fold up. Attach double stick tape to the outside edges of all the red pages where they will affix to the black. Attach the taped outside edge of each red page to the outside edge of a black page. Make sure the edges line up well. Press firmly to adhere. When all the red pages have been attached, go back and attach the outside edge of the cream pages to the edges of the red pages in the same manner. Once all your pages are affixed, attach ribbons to the outer sides of your book block with double stick tape. Glue the covers to the book block, using PVA glue. Make sure that the covers are lined up and the edges are affixed well. Put the book under heavy weights, and allow that glue to dry! Now you have a beautiful Star book with a beaded spine. Decorate the inside pages and fill it with your favorite little works of art. You can change the dimensions of the cover and pages to make any size book. Here's one I made with triangular pockets and extra embellishments to hold "Comedians in B&W" atcs.

Hello crafty friends! Amber Mitchell here on Paige's blog today to share with you a fun mini album I created using Paige's older (but still magical) Turn the Page collection and her Envelope Mini Album with Tags cut file. Since I love all things mini, I wanted to create a smaller version of this cut file. I first began by resizing the cut file as a whole so that the envelope measured about 2x2.75". I then cut 10 individual envelopes from five patterned papers that I printed from the digital version of Turn the Page. Cutting 10 envelopes allowed me to create two small mini albums that I could add to each side of my book base. I then cut the tags one by one from the leftover paper scraps. For the base of this album, I created a small, one page "book". To do this, I took a piece of paper that measured 3x7 1/8" and scored along the 7 1/8" side at 3 1/8" and 4 1/8". This will give the book a one inch thick spine. With all of my pieces cut, scored, and ready to go, I stitched along the edges of each envelope as well as the edges of the album base. Stitching is a great way to add texture to any project, whether it's by hand or with a machine. Next, I assembled all 10 of my envelopes using a liquid glue and then split them into stacks of five. I then assembled these two stacks into accordion style minis by adhering the envelopes together top to bottom. Once I had my two envelope minis ready to go, I added one to each inside cover of the base. During this process, I also added a 1" vertical band to each album in order to keep them closed. I opted for a velcro dot to keep these bands closed, but a magnet would work just as well. Sidenote: another option to keep these albums closed would be to use string or twine. With my minis in place, it was time for embellishments. I created a beaded paper tassel for the spine and attached it using a small, gold jump ring. For the cover, I layered up a handful of floral die cuts from the digital version of Turn the Page. I also used a few stickers from the 30-page Paige Evans #StickerBook to give the cover more texture and depth. The last couple of steps were to add some fun finishing touches. I created some 3D flowers using Paige's Rolled Flower cut file and added a butterfly die cut to tie it all together. For the interior of the book I decorated the top layer of both bands to dress them up and draw the eye in. This also hides the closure and helps it to blend in seamlessly. To finish everything off, I lightly embellished the tags using stickers and die cuts and tucked one into each envelope. Thanks so much for stopping by today! I'll see you next time with another fun project! Hello!! I have always been a big fan of mini albums so I am excited about sharing today’s post with you!! Amanda took one of these DIY paint swatch notebooks and turned it into a mini scrapbook! I love the size of this because it is not too big and intimidating, especially for someone that is new to scrapbooking. The other thing I love about mini albums is that you can start and finish the project in a day or a week, depending on how quickly you work… as opposed to a traditional scrapbook album that continues on and on. The satisfaction of completing the album and having something done and ready to share is awesome!! Hi Friends. Happy Thursday! It’s always so fun for me to join your here on Maggie’s blog. Over the past few months I have been challenging myself to create more projects that are out of my normal making. Before joining Maggie’s design team I would hoard all the pretty papers and make small projects here and there. I have come to realize that when you push yourself to try something new, you just might end up liking it!! Today I am excited to share with […]

Hello crafty friends, Amber Mitchell here on Paige's blog today to share with you a fun mini book I created to kick off the new year! To create this album, I used the Bloom Street collection and several of Paige's cut files. The first cut file I used was the Pots cut file which I added to the cover of my book. When I saw this file in the Silhouette Design Store, I instantly knew I had to turn it into vases full of flowers. I backed the pots using some simple patterns from Bloom Street as this allowed the flowers to pop off the page more. To create the flowers, I used a handful of Paige's Rolled Flower cut files. I love the different textures and dimensions that these added to the cover. I also used floral die cuts from the Bloom Street Digital Collection to add leaves and 2D flowers to the cover as well. When it came to creating the inside aspects of this album, I knew I wanted to have multiple, interactive elements. I first created two pockets that I added to the inside covers on each side of my book. I embellished these lightly using some heart-shaped trim from my stash. Next, I created two simple journals by folding papers in half, stacking them, and then binding them to the book using white elastic thread. To add more flair to the book, I created handmade paper beads and strung these along the elastic thread on the outside of the book before tying it off. I also included two of the beautiful Flower Charms from Bloom Street for added pops of color. With my pockets and journals created, I moved on to creating the more interactive bits of this book. The first pocket is full of embellished envelopes I created using Paige's Envelope cut file. These will be perfect for storing special photos and tuck ins. I embellished these using digital die cuts and added some phrase sentiments using the Puffy Word Stickers. The second pocket holds a mini album (a mini within a mini!) that I created using Paige's Mini Album with Tabbed Edges cut file. This cut file is one of my favorites. I've used it before and I loved coming back to it for this project. It makes such a fun, interactive addition to this mini book that will make flipping through the entirety of this project more fun. To finish embellishing, I dressed up my two journals. Cut files make for the perfect, quick embellishment! I used the Love cut file to decorate the first journal in my book and layered it up among some Floral Die Cuts. This project was a hefty one that took a few days to create, but I love how it turned out and I can't wait to fill it with memories from this year. Thanks so much for stopping by the blog today! I'll see you next time with another fun project! The 12th of the 25 Days of Christmas Cut Files went out to those who purchased them! Here I have cut and backed the 12 Days of Christmas Cards at 3x4" from papers in my Truly Grateful collection and I plan to insert them into 3x4" pocket page protectors to go into my December Daily. Check out these two beyond cute projects created with today's 12 Days of Christmas Cards Cut File! First, a cute, cute, and more cute mini album by Design Team member Amber Mitchell! She says, "Hey crafty friends! Amber Mitchell here on Paige's blog today to share with you this fun Christmas mini album that I created using Paige's "12 Days of Christmas" cut file. To create the base of this mini album, I used three pieces of chipboard. The front and back cover pieces measure 2.75 x 3.5 inches, while the spine piece measures 1.5 x 3.5 inches. I wrapped these pieces using Paper 8 from the Bungalow Lane collection. This paper reminded me of wrapping paper, so I thought it worked perfectly for this album. For the binding, I created a hidden hinge that can hold 12 pages. I added that to the inside of my album using a strong adhesive. Before gluing this binding into place I punched a hole and added a star eyelet using my We R Memory Keepers Crop-A-Dile to add charms and tassels to later. To line the base of my album, I used a pink patterned paper from the 12x12 Paper Pad. I resized the 12 Days of Christmas Cards Cut File until each card measured 2.25 x 3 inches. I then cut them from various patterned papers from the 12x12 Paper Pad and backed them using swatches from the 2x2 Paper Pads. On the back of each card, I adhered a photo mat I created from white cardstock. To create a closure, I took a small strip of paper that measured 1 x 4.25 inches and scored on the 4.75-inch side at 1.75 and 3.25 inches. I adhered the 1.75-inch segment to the back of the back cover and wrapped the rest of the strap around to the front cover. I secured it into place using a small craft magnet. With the base of the album now done, I moved on to embellishing. For this part, I used bits and pieces from my Christmas crafting stash, as well as embellishments from Bungalow Lane. This mini is so tiny and compact but full of so much cheer!" Here is an eye candy of a layout by Design Team member Heidi K. Lewis. She says, "I arranged all the numbers and icons into a grid on Bungalow Lane Paper 20 and added a few embellishments and 2x2 photos. This layout came together really fast, which is great if you are looking for something easy to make during the busy holiday season!"
