Bulgarian artist Ognyan Stefanov pairs his day job as an aviation photographer with an equally lofty practice of crafting lavish architectural miniatures that soar high in the air. One of his creations is this utopic village, aptly named “Skyville,” which was designed as a self-sustaining enclave complete with shops, farms and gardens, a library, and a few homes, including the main house with the individually tiled pitched roof. Posted atop a latticed tower, the heavily landscaped town was designed to mimic real functionality with a water drainage system, pulleys, and walkways that climb from level to level. More

The Bradford Exchange, purveyors of all things collectible from Thomas Kinkade to Disney, has set its latest sights right here in Cleveland - at Franklin Castle no less. As part of its "America's Most Haunted Village Collection," the fave local landmark will be offered as Issue Two. Issue One will be the Amityville House. Structures measure 4.5 inches wide by 6.5 inches long by 5.25 inches deep. Per the company's site: "Each sculpture illuminates and features a wealth of detailing like the ghoulish apparitions that are seen peering out from their windows. Plus, learn about the events that took place in each historic place and what is thought to haunt the space with the included printed newspaper cards." Full information, including images of the fun and funky miniatures, is available here.

This is a blog of all the offbeat and fanciful delights that appeal to me. I revel in sensuality, a shade of darkness as well and beauty wherever it is found...I have a dark sense of humour and that may or may not be appealing to you, but hang around if you can relate. I'm an "intuitive introvert"...
So it was a foggy day the other morning and I stopped in Lacock for some atmospheric shots. For those that don't know Lacock, it's one of the prettiest villages in England. The entire village (bar 4 houes) is owned by the National Trust. Every house is a few hundred years old and there's a lovely mixture of style. It's been used for countless period dramas and lots of well known films - including the first and the current Harry Potter films. In the latest film (Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince) it's used right at the start for the moonlight sequence - in fact the timber building on the far left was used in the film, which looks out directly on to a perfect English Church and graveyard. No photoshop here, just the minutest of crops to get rid of a plastic drain pipe.

Here’s an excerpt of our interview with Carmine Jr. Palermo, second-generation owner and pharmacist at Block Drug Store from NEW YORK NIGHTS: “This neighborhood has undergone a dramatic change since I’ve been working here. In the 1970’s it used to be a neighborhood with lots of artists and poets and musicians. There were also a lot of Hispanics in the area. There were definitely more minorities living here than now. I can recall when President Carter came to the East Village because he was trying to revitalize Avenue C and Avenue D and then developers started purchasing a lot of the dilapidated buildings and empty lots for a very cheap price and quickly turning the properties over for a large profit. Our customer base is vast and many of them have been coming here for years. We even have customers that we mail prescriptions to in Florida. They don’t want to leave us…it’s so funny. I also have customers that regularly come here from every borough in New York. Even though they’ve moved away from the East Village, they come back because there’s not too many independently owned drug stores anymore. The pharmacy business has changed a lot. Chain stores are in abundance and sometimes that improves the business of independent stores like mine because of the chain store’s lack of ability to help customers personally. It’s confusing for the customers at a chain store because there are so many different pharmacists working there all the time. If someone comes back into my store with a problem or complication, it’s just me or my wife or even my father. We can talk amongst ourselves and find out what is going on with the customer and their medications. We are more familiar with the patient’s background and history. But with chain stores, communication is probably scarce. So it’s that attention to the customer that brings them back and also brings in new customers who have gotten fed up with the chain store’s service and lack of personal attention.” Photo of Block Drugs taken from our book NEW YORK NIGHTS

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
Recently, photographer Simon Dell stumbled upon a family of mice running around his garden. Instead of reaching for the traps, however, he took out his tools. Dell built the mice a miniature village and they repaid him by posing in front of his camera.
