Hello stamping friends. Welcome to Funky Folds Blog Hop #3. We are a community for like minded paper crafters who love to make cards with funky/fancy/fun folds and to share our ideas. Funky actually means “modern and stylish in an unconventional or striking way”. We are featuring cards that are not your usual rectangle/square portrait of landscape style cards. Each and every month the blog hops will have and 'anything goes' theme as long as your card has some type of 'funky' fold. I've made for you today a Star Explosion Pop-Up card using products from the beautiful Stampin' Up! Country Woods Suite found in the new 2024 - 2025 Annual Catalogue. I've used the tutorial and measurements from Sam Calcott at Mixed Up Craft. When the card is closed it looks fairly inconspicuous but when you take off the belly band and open the card up that is where the magic happens. Here on the front I've layered Basic White, Pool Party and the Country Woods DSP for the front of the card and then I've used Misty Moonlight for the belly band and added DSP, Ribbon, stamped images and die-cuts using products from the Country Woods Suite. On the inside is a scored centre panel that all folds in neatly together when the card is folded closed. When opened the centre circle piece pops up and stands up a little off the card for that added element and dimension. As well as using the Country Woods DSP I've also adde some of the Country Lace DSP to layer on some of the panels and used more of the products from the Country Woods suite to embellish the inside. I coloured the floral images in using Stampin' Blends Alcohol Markers and used the same floral images on the front as what is on the inside to keep that continuity from the outside to the inside. Stampin' Blends Used Flowers - Light Peach Pie, Light & Dark Petal Pink, Light Summer Splash, Light & Dark Pool Party, Light and Dark Boho Blue, Light Balmy Blue, Light Lemon Lolly Leaves - Light & Dark Mossy Meadow Teapot - Light and Dark Gray Granite I've even added some Basic White Panels on the back for you to write your message. This is such a WOW card when you open it. It's one of those cards that you hand deliver to your best crafting friend just so that you can see their reaction to when they open it. I do hope you like my Funky Fold that I've shared with you today. I just love how it turned out especially with the use of the Country Woods Suite products. This is another amazing suite that I've fallen in love with. Next up is Bronwyn Eastley from Tasmania, Australia with her Funky Fold. I can't wait to see what she has made for us. Keep your linens smelling of spring long after your cleaning is finished. These simple sachets are perfect for stuffing in your intimates drawer or tucking under your pillow. Unlike Husby’s recommendation, as he snatched up 3, they’re too sweet to toss into a dirty gym bag (maybe febreze is a better solution for that magnitude of stench, babe.) Fabric swatches Cut fabric into 3X2 inch rectangles. The ones I used can be purchased HERE. Using old tshirts, shirts, or any lightweight fabric would also work (fabric needs to be lightweight so aroma can be smelt). Don’t want to doll yours up? Simply pour the lavender into a sock and tie the top in a knot. Dried Lavender or Any Dried Herbs 1 cup can be purchased HERE or at any natural food store Embroidery Floss I purchased mine HERE. Make sure to double your strands before stitching to achieve contrast Fabric Sheers Fray Check Apply to edges of fabric once completed. Can be purchased HERE.

Hello Everyone, it's been a fabulous week here at the Brown household with Ken's birthday Thursday and our 40th wedding anniversary on the same day. Last night we celebrated with the children and grand children having a lovely meal out together and tonight we celebrate with a few friends and neighbours by having a summer garden BBQ. We just hope it doesn't rain after all the wonderful hot sunny weather we had in July. Today I thought I would share four altered playing cards that I have been making (you can seer the previous 4 here that I made in March if you haven’t caught up with them yet) Although I followed the ideas and techniques from Stephanie Ackerman, I am using images and collage pieces of my own. I save quotes and make my own sheets and print out to use in albums, on cards and mixed media projects. I won’t share the process steps in respect for Stephanie and her online class, but suffice to say I am enjoying making these and having fun exploring some mixed media techniques. Thanks for taking the time to stop by and I hope you have a wonderful weekend. hugs {brenda} xx

I love the expression on this little girl's face! She is holding an antique candy mold and sitting on old clothes pins. Her crown is hand-cut from a vintage tin and she has a numbered brass tack in the center of the crown. Her wings are from a blue morpho butterfly (Morpho menelaus). The background is made up of handwritten prescription slips from the 20s and 30s. 8x10

Hello and welcome! I have a Sizzix tutorial to share with you today, made with Tim Holtz new Frameworks dies. These dies are so fun and very versatile. I made an art journal page, but the technique works just as well on a card, tag or scrapbooking layout. I thought it would be fun to use the Frameworks die to get a mosaic look. A great base for that is Wendy Vecchi's Embossing Paste, which works both as adhesive and grout in this project. The Frameworks die that I used is the Honeycomb one, but you can get the same effect with any of the other Frameworks dies. I worked in my Small Creative Journal and smeared gesso with a palette knife. A piece of paper had been embossed in the Honeycomb embossing folder and I pressed it repeatedly into the gesso to make a soft textured pattern. You can also use the embossing folder itself, but then you have to clean it immediately. I also wanted the random gesso effect on the embossed paper. Leave to dry. Water down some Distress Paint and paint the page. Mist with water for even more texture. Leave to dry. Die cut Honeycomb Frameworks from different papers and materials. I used: natural sticky-back canvas, Mirrored Sheet, wood veneer paper, dictionary paper, the embossed honeycomb paper from earlier, Eclectic Elements Fabric which had been glued to cardstock and various Tim Holtz patterned papers. These are the inside pieces, I will use the frame pieces in a tutorial soon. Ink the edges. Ink the honeycomb embossed paper with Tumbled Glass and wipe off with a moist cloth. The random spots of gesso resist the ink. Smear Embossing Paste on your page in a medium thick layer. Start placing your honeycomb pieces into the paste, leaving the same space between all the pieces. The paste doesn't dry too quickly, so you have enough time. I made sure to vary the materials. Press the pieces down a bit to make the paste come up in between them. Continue until you have covered the paste. I left some paste uncovered because I thought it gave a cool look. Leave to dry. Cover all the paper pieces (not the mirrors, wood, canvas, fabric or embossed paper) with Glossy Accents. This gives a great glossy look to them and even more interest and variation to the mosaic pieces. Leave to dry. Ink the paste here and there with Gathered Twigs. I stamped the background with a few Tim Holtz stamps. Here you can see the honeycomb texture in the gesso. The sentiment was stamped on two Ribbon Flags. The stamp comes from a Darkroom Door set. I added rub-ons to some of the tiles. The combination of different surfaces in the tiles makes for a very interesting project. The mirror pieces look like real mirrors (they are hard to photograph). I just got Tim Holtz Bird Feather set and wanted to ink up this great bird stamp. It was inked with Broken China and Gathered Twigs, misted with water four or five times and stamped on watercolour paper. The little bird is a Hero Arts stamp and was stamped in the same way as the larger one. The title was die cut with the Vintage Market Sizzlits die. Thank you for looking! Welcome to my "little" stop on the Club Scrap Constellations Blog Hop. Miniature books made using Club Scrap Constellations papers and stamps. Miniature handmade books displayed in a matchbox. I seem to be a "little" obsessed with miniature handmade books this month! It's like I'm "seein' stars" when I think of these mini book projects. The small scale galaxy print on the Constellations 8.5x11" White Text Weight Print (CST) was ideal for wrapping the covers. The smaller images on the Constellations Unmounted Stamps worked well for decorating for the front covers and inside pages. Each mini book has its own special features. It all started when I made this mini pamphlet stitch book to fit inside the 2-1/2 x 1-1/2" matchbox I had in my stash. (If you're interested in assembly instructions, check out the link for details.) I don't want to bore you with duplicate info, so I'm going to let the pictures do the talking. I guess it just wasn't in the stars for me to create only one mini book. For book #2, I created the world's smallest spiral bound notebook complete with a tiny library card holder attached to the inside cover. Spiral binding created with needle, waxed linen thread, and wooden dowel. Last, but not least...how cute is this tiny book with a nook built inside? I even got to incorporate the Constellations theme with a tiny bottle of glitter "star dust" inside! Below, a few visuals of the mini nook book construction. Wrapped outside book cover. Nook made with matte board cut to fit inside. Wrapped book nook piece is glued to the inside back cover. I think the Nook Book may be my favorite! It looks like I have a good start on a mini matchbox library. It will be fun to make more mini books with other Club Stamp Prints to add to my collection. Talk about "light" reading!!! Ha! Next on the hop is the lovely and talented Shona at Shona Scraps. Be sure to check out what she is up to with the Constellations Kit. Thanks for looking. Kay
