The next stop on our Deco Pattern release train is my Ivory Deco quilt! In case you missed it, the Deco Quilt pattern is now available! If you haven't already read my initial blog post about the two-color Deco quilt that I made, be sure to check that out here. You'll find my inspiration, pattern sizes fabric requirements and other details about Deco. This particular Deco quilt was my second iteration of the design. While my first Deco used two colors, I always knew that I wanted to find a way to introduce more colors into the quilt. I began to experiment with how different fabric groupings within the quilt can change the overall appearance of the design. In my many hours of playing around with different combinations, I noticed that there were certain trends that I was gravitating towards. I think this is apparent in my mock-ups in the pattern and the different Deco quilts that I've created. Ultimately, I wanted the center of the quilt to radiate outward and have a
Modern quilt 02 is one of my very first venture into really having a go at designing my own quilt patterns. I had no idea what l was doing then, haha, but this quilt and the three others that were part of the collection hold a special place in my heart. My love for solids, big blocks and sense of colour blossomed with these quilts.
I was fortunate enough to check out the beautifully curated Modern Quilt Showcase, sponsored by the Modern Quilt Guild. This exhibit was part of the quilt show associated with the 2019 International Quilt Market and Festival in Houston, Texas. Members of the Modern Quilt Guild from around the world
The perfect modern accent to your favorite cozy space, this gorgeous quilt has been handmade by me from the highest quality materials. I've had this contemporary pattern custom printed onto a seamless piece of fabric making this a “whole cloth” quilt-- the patterned top is one continuous piece, not many small pieces sewn together. It's backed in a super soft light gray cotton blend, machine bound in it, too. You have your choice of several backing colors at checkout; if you'd like your quilt backed in a color not listed, just let me know in the Message to Seller box and I'll get it for you. I quilted all over the top in a meandering loopy pattern which adds to its vintage feel. If you're looking for a traditionally pieced quilt, I'd love to make one for you; please feel free to reach out, or you can check my "Traditionally Pieced" section here: https://www.etsy.com/shop/OutOfCharacterQuilts?ref=seller-platform-mcnav§ion_id=46334629 You have TWO FABRIC OPTIONS for the patterned top of your quilt: DOUBLE GAUZE: 100% cotton double gauze is often called "muslin" and is commonly used in baby blankets and swaddles because of its lightness and breathability. The weaving together of two layers of gauze creates a material that is incredibly lightweight and airy yet strong; it's also a coarser natural fabric so it has a more rustic look and feel. The double gauze version of this quilt is extra crinkly and measures approximately 66" x 50". Again, this version is very lightweight. Because of its looser weave, double gauze isn't recommended for pets with sharp nails. MINKY: Minky is a polyester-blended plush fabric; it's a cuddly, silky soft blend that triumphs over comparable fabric options in every way. Warm and durable, it boasts an unrivaled thick plushness that is soothing and cozy. The minky version is approximately 70" x 54". The colors are bolder, and the quilt itself is much heavier. If you're looking for a heftier, warmer quilt, this is the best option for you. The photos of the minky version are labeled "minky" in this listing's photos. Both versions are gorgeous and striking in their own way. Throw it over your favorite reading chair and you'll do more reading. Fold it over the end of your bed and you'll find yourself sleeping better. Spread it on the floor for your baby to happily roll around on and you'll do more laughing, picnicking, tickling, and snuggling. These are all sound guarantees. The larger double gauze version is shown thrown over the foot of a standard queen-sized bed in the listing photos, but it is not sized to be actual bedding. Machine wash warm. Tumble dry low. Gets even better with time. The rustic nature of muslin means that there are often natural variances in the weave of the fabric. Orders will be shipped via USPS Ground Advantage or USPS First Class International; I do offer expedited domestic shipping at checkout, and you can select the "Express" shipping option to have your order shipped via USPS Priority Mail. I love modern quilts and have since I was a little girl. I especially love quilts with a lot of white space – not surprising!...
All the details on my original Golden Lattice quilts and inspiration for the design.
The Playroom Quilt pattern is here! This pattern is the second to release in the Sewn Home Series. I love how playful this pattern is without being overly complicated. This is a simple and easy pattern! It's the perfect beginner quilt. Do you recognize that backing? I finally made use of my Itajime Shibori fabrics. Read more about that process here. I have made this quilt four times and every time I am surprised at how fast it comes together. Fun Fact: This pattern was actually the very first one I designed for the series. I knew I wanted it to be called the Playroom Quilt because it reminds me of the stacking blocks we have for the boys in their playroom. I love that you could shift all these blocks around and come up with a different quilt top every time if you wanted to. They create so many fun patterns when they are all together! The blue and white version you see above is the crib size quilt. I have also been using it in the stroller almost every day now that the weather has cooled off. Can I start calling it a Stroller Size instead of Crib or Baby? It really does fit perfectly around both of them in our double Bob. Now this quilt kit will be available soon from Lamb & Loom - but isn't available quite yet. It brings me all the Fall/Winter vibes. I pulled these fabrics knowing I was going to gift this quilt top to my sister in law and her partner for Christmas. As the quilt was coming together I kept thinking... well maybe I should just keep it. I love it so much, but alas it will be getting wrapped and shipped off as a gift. I guess I will just have to make another one for myself. Quilt Kits Available Now: There are so many gorgeous kits available for this quilt. Check out all of these wonderful online quilt shops to purchase the kit after you have purchase the pattern here. ROSIE GIRL QUILTING I love the gold and white, but they are also caring all of these two color versions as kits as well! How will you ever decide?! They would all be beautiful! FABRIC STORK This gorgeous pink and green combo makes me so happy! Check out this quilt kit from Fabric Stork and grab one before they are gone! SALT CITY LANE Pattern Testers: As always - we can't forget about my wonderful pattern testers. I hope these inspire you as much as they inspire me! This first one is by Shannon Killham (@Beachmamamade) Look at this little nugget! I love this color combo. I'm adding it to my to-do list. It's just perfect! This next one is by Christine (@lopolokko) and just take a look at all that color. I love how the vibrant floral balances with the white. It's gorgeous! Look at this additional gold and white combo by Ama @thevibrantpixel. I love how vibrant the gold is against the white. It's giving me all the sunshine vibes! This winter I'm in a bit of a sewing slump. I've decided instead of buying more fabric--I want to use what I have on hand, but use it differently. I don't have lots of solids, but I do have lots of fabric. Research: I've been gathering photo ideas to build Modern Scrappy Quilts this year. I'm looking for random--unexpected color combinations and simple construction. Here are some quilt photos from Pinterest that caught my eye. This first one I like. Its simple, simple construction. Take an oversized square, slice it, add some skinny strips, slice it again, and more skinny strips, and then square it up with a 10.5" sq. or 12.5" sq. acrylic template. No rules, just slicing and sewing. No sashing. 📷 The quilt below is so do-able as far as construction. Random. Improv. Beyond the white-black-gray bits for contrast, I see ORANGE dotted with this and that accent colors. Going shopping out of my own stash is fun. Using up lots of sub assemblies already sewn and ready to modify and use in another quilt. I am aware "stash diving" makes a huge mess in the studio. 📷 📷 Calling all Squares . . . calling all squares . . . come in squares. Above is the perfect solution for using up a half yard of this and that. Anything goes . . . but I'm drawn to the use of green, red, and papersack colors in this one. Works for me. 📷 Certainly I've collected lots of silly themes and strange patterns fabrics like this quilt shown above. What is most interesting? Look at the use of red and white fabrics paired with those weird fabrics. Liberally repeating red and white fabrics pull it all together, making sense of all the other weird fabrics that were added. It could just as well be blue and white fabrics paired with the weird fabrics. What I like most about this scrappy quilt is its simple construction, no sashing, alternating four patch. This light airy quilt is so pretty. I think I'll try this quilt concept right away!
We’re back on the road for the last leg of the Golden State series journey with the Eastern Sierra quilt pattern now available here ! We first sailed to Balboa Island with equilateral triangles, hiked up to Mammoth Lakes with sewing curves, then drove to Metropolis with half rectangle triangles. O

I have just had four incredible days at the NEC in Birmingham with so many adventures! Lots of coffee breaks and lunches and dinners every day with lots of different friends, as well as some very interesting night time escapades, with friends car's locked up behind barriers in the NEC carpark, boy racers and crashes on the road around the NEC and very little sleep! Coming to the festival is not just about seeing all the lovely quilts and shopping, but also a big social event, and as I have discovered, unexpected adventures too! As there will be lots of photos of the category winners on the internet, I thought I would just post a few photos of my absolute favourite quilts. If you do not see your quilt here, it is not that I did not like it, there were many more that were absolutely stunning, but I cannot possibly post them all here. In no particular order.... It just went by too quickly and we could have chatted for a lot longer. I was not expecting the September issue to be out yet, so was pleasantly surprised when it was on the stand at Traplet's booth. Then when I got home, another copy was waiting for me. This is the front cover and the page featuring me: It has been a very exciting week this week, I now have a few days at home to organise all my shopping from Festival, maybe even get a bit of sewing done, then, I am booked in to do a class with Angela Walters in Birmingham next week, but I should have a little bit longer to do some quilting before I go to Houston.
