The lovely woodblock print 'Sakura' is by Kan Kozaki (b. 1942) and is printed on delicate and tasteful Japanese washi paper. The image depicts a woman surrounded by scattering cherry blossom petals, capturing the ephemeral beauty of the blossoms. The image part has very slight pink tint Accompanied by a haiku by Santoka Taneda, a revered poet of the early 20th century, the print further conveys the transient nature of life and the sense of wanderlust evoked by the cherry blossoms. The haiku, "The cherry blossoms bloomed, and I am a traveler," poignantly reflects on the fleeting nature of the blossoms and life itself. Cherry blossoms hold deep cultural significance in Japan, symbolizing love, beauty, and the impermanence of life. They have inspired poets, monks, and travelers for centuries, serving as a reminder to cherish the beauty in fleeting moments. Is there anything more iconic to Japan than the Ginkgo. OK, maybe the Cherry Tree and Bamboo. I would love to paint a Ginkgo just for you! This vertical triptych gives the feel of the sweeping branches of my Ginkgo trees. I use color mixing techniques first developed Centuries ago by Japanese Monks, to portray the 'blush' of their highly venerated Cherry Blossoms. In Japan Washi (wa-meaning Japanese and shi-meaning paper) is an art form in itself so... I create art with art! Commissions, collaborations and compliments welcomed and enjoyed. Ask anyone! The entire Gallery canvas is covered in Washi and, coated with clear acrylics to protect from UV's. and gracefully flows over the side.
A venerable sage sits in meditation beneath a blossoming cherry tree. A waterfall cascades down green mountains into a pool. Wild blue irises on the shore. This is an original acrylic painting on a stretched canvas (the staple-free sides are painted). It has been varnished to protect the paint and preserve the lustrous colors. I was looking for ways of enhancing this landscape pour when I saw an old monk sitting there. I made a couple alterations to his body but didn't touch the face. It's exactly as the pour left it. If you would like hanging wire added to the back of the canvas, please let me know in the notes to seller when you check out. Or, email me right after. Artist: Laura Milnor Iverson. monk is the story of Yoshihiro Imai's 14-seat, seasonally inspired restaurant, set on the cherry blossom-lined Philosopher's Path in Kyoto. Through personal essays, reflections, 75 contemporary Japanese recipes, and photography, Yoshihiro describes stories of the farmers, makers, and exceptional ingredients – from foraged vegetables to herbs and flowers – that inspire his omakase-style menu, explains why cooking with fire is central to the restaurant, and traces the evolution of the unpretentious, innovative, and flavorful pizza for which he is now renowned globally. International media attention in the Wall Street Journal Magazine and Monocle Travel Guide Series have solidified Yoshihiro's influence on the Kyoto dining scene and both his visibility as a global chef and his restaurant monk have global appeal, with diners flying in from around the world to eat there. Philadelphia’s Monk’s Café is one of America’s iconic pubs, considered one of the great Belgian beer destinations on this side of the Atlantic. Proprietor Tom Peters has contracted with Brouwerij Van Steenberge to produce Monk’s Café Sour Flemish Ale, a sweet/sour Flanders-style brown ale. Rife with notes of sour cherry and luscious caramel, the aroma is classic Oud Bruin. Pete was a bit taken aback by the upfront acetic tang, likening it to “finely aged Modena balamico,” but felt the underlying malt sweetness and plum notes help to balance the nose.
