Montauk's favorite beach read is back. The Usual, a celebration of summer and homage to the east end is launching Issue 5, available in select locations through October, 2014. The issue covers all things unusual about Montauk, with interviews including 5-time ASP world champion surfer Stephanie Gilmore; art enthusiast Bill Powers; artist Raphael Mazzucco; and musicians Edward Sharpe. Lightning Bolt's Jonathan Paskowitz and area local Joe Termini weigh in on whose surfing village is better: Montauk, NY or Venice, CA. And we feature contributions by Forest Woodward, Morgen Maassen, Nick Hudson, Peter Maiden, and of course, our ding repair guy/therapist Jimmy Goldberg who coaches us on love, life and surf etiquette.
Captain Balfour is the newest McKinley Bungalow, drawing inspiration from Montauk's natural beauty with interiors that mirror the beachfront.

We are so thrilled to be offering the most exquisite collection of lights by the wonderfully talented Kelly Wearstler. Her works are simply breathtaking. She has a knack for fusing a mix of materials to create stunningly creative, yet functional pieces, with her aesthetic now synonymous with modern Californian luxury. Her designs, epitomised by a colourful mélange of materials, merge important historical reference points with contemporary influences. The harmony of masculine and feminine, classic and contemporary, high and low, is integral to the brand’s maverick sense of eclecticism and fearless, iconic style. A lot Kelly Wearstler’s collection make up our favourites. And as serendipity would have it, she even has a collection of lights named Cleo, which for those who know us, has very special meaning indeed.

One of my favorite of the weekend trips Aron and I took when we lived in New York was a September one to Montauk to celebrate my birthday. It was full of lobster rolls, clam shacks, and I recall the town had a low-key surf vibe that made me feel like I’d gone home to […]
