Please note: the size of the tub we pack this moss into has changed. We have upgraded to 16 ounce eco-friendly PAPER-BASED tubs! :) 🎉 ♻️ 🌎 Each order contains one 16 Oz tub of wild green sphagnum moss. You will receive fresh, healthy, moss collected straight from the wild. All of our moss is collected fresh at the time of your order. Perfect for a number of applications - use as a natural living mulch for carnivorous plants & orchids (or any other plants that require regulated moisture), in terrariums, vivariums, mossaroums and so much more! Sphagnum moss comes in many varieties, shapes, and colors and is found in the wild forming loose sprawling mats in water-saturated areas such as bogs, fens, swamps, and saturated woodlands. It has the unique ability to absorb huge quantities of water into its leaflets lending itself to a variety of projects and uses where moisture retention is required. Sphagnum is incredibly useful, not just as a terrarium moss, but it makes an excellent substrate and growing medium as well. Sphagnum grows as separate segments/plants side by side one another spreading out into large areas, so it can be quite loose if not provided with structural support from the sides of wherever it is planted, but tucking it between other mosses, rocks, wood pieces (etc) usually keeps it in place just fine :-) The color of this particular moss varies in color between pale green, lime green, and dark peridot green. This type of moss will have a darker brown base that fades into tan in the central layer and the very top will be one of the shades of green mentioned earlier. This is because the lower parts of sphagnum decompose while the upper portions continue to grow, this is how th earth developed deep peat moss bogs - which is really just layers of very decomposed sphagnum. I sustainably hand-pick this live moss from the wild in a beautiful cedar swamp on my remote off-grid property in the mountains of central Vermont, far far away from pollutants or chemicals of any kind. I hope you enjoy all the mosses I offer and find this sphagnum moss useful in your projects :) Debris from the forest will be mixed in a little with this moss, it is far too delicate to remove without destroying its structural integrity. Use it in terrariums, vivariums, fairy gardens, landscaping and garden-scaping, or you may choose to air dry it for craft use or fairy house construction and more. PLEASE READ BEFORE ORDERING 😊 —-My 100% Satisfaction Guarantee—- I GUARANTEE ALL OF THE MOSS & LICHEN IN MY SHOP. If you notice something wrong has occurred during shipment, please don’t throw the moss away, treat it as if it were normal moss and message me immediately. Take photos of the moss and send them to me along with a message. Please do not panic - I will make sure to rectify the situation. I guarantee 100% satisfaction. No one should ever be disappointed with a purchase! 💗 —-Variability in Color—— Not all mosses or lichens are green. Some are pale in color (nearly beige) and some are yellow, orange, rust shades, mottled green with brown and oftentimes even multicolored. Some moss is even nearly black (American tree moss for example) and some are able to change color over time. Moss responds to different lighting conditions by changing color just as succulent plants do. —-Shipment—— Excessive moisture/hydration can cause mold during transport, this is why we will ship slightly on the drier side. Moss and lichen are both used to dry and wet periods in nature, to avoid mold we choose to ship out moss slightly drier than you might expect. —-Care upon Arrival—- You’ll want to open the tubs when they arrive to give the moss or lichen some fresh air, especially for any overly humid pieces. Any excessively dry pieces can be misted with non chlorinated (rain water or distilled water). These mosses do best in semi-enclosed terrariums, they need some amount of air flow for best results. —-What to expect—- *Some forest debris is to be expected attached to some of the mosses/lichens. The occasional insect can escape my inspection from time to time, this is the nature of healthy wild moss collected from healthy wild locations, so please just be aware. —-Wild vs Sterile Farmed Moss/Lichen—- Wild mosses and lichens are quite hardy and adaptable to transport, relocation, and transplant. They have a higher survival rate compared to propagated specimens so an excellent choice for landscaping, terrariums, and vivariums. However, please be aware of the applications of wild vs propagated. *Wild moss and lichen are not grown in a sterile environment, please do your own research before using wild varieties of mosses with sensitive terrarium pets such as insects, amphibians, and reptiles
