It's been over thirty years since Tom Cruise blasted across the screen in an F14 Tomcat, in the cult classic Top Gun. But who remembers the motorcycle he rode in the film? We do: it was a red and black Kawasaki GPZ900R. Photographer Paolo Sandolfini wasn't even born when Top Gun came out, but he's a nut for everything 80s. This nice five window microcar is a one-off custom-built coupe created by George S. Brauks, a St. Louis, Missouri foundry pattern maker and carriage builder. The front of the car is a 1937 Hudson Terraplane 2 door coupe. The rear part seems to be a 1936 DeSoto. The entire car was narrowed lengthwise on the centerline to create a narrow body width. The picture is slightly photoshopped; the rusty spots are repainted.
