Just back from a few days away... It was our 30th wedding anniversary on Monday and we celebrated by visiting the island of Guernsey. Our honeymoon was spent on Jersey all those years ago, but we'd not been to any of the other Channel Islands until now. The weather wasn't particularly kind to us - The flight home (on a prop plane), was an experience, with gale force winds making it a bumpy ride! We made the most of our visit though and saw most of what the small island offers. St Peter Port. Castle Cornet. The Noon Day cannon fire. Candie Garden. The Occupation Museum. The Little Chapel - entirely covered inside and out with a colourful mosaic of broken shards of china and sea shells. Fort Grey. The beach at Fort Grey. Souvenir of the weekend. The National Trust of Guernsey's Folk and Costume Museum. Finally a visit to the Old Quarter at St Peter Port, where this antique shop was closing down - We visited there on it's final day. The owner said she'd been there since 1975, but had decided to semi-retire and now just sell at antique fairs...I bought several items from her...but the best thing was I got a pink one! - AND managed to get it home in one piece on that bumpy flight home! Here it is in pride of place with my others - A perfect souvenir of a lovely mini-break and a reminder of our thirty years together. Niki x

KAFFE FASSETT staat voor kleur en vormen, in STOFFEN, QUILTS, BREIWERK, BORDUURWERK, KLEDEN, SCHILDERIJEN en MOZAÏEK. Hij werd geboren in 1937 in San Francisco, daar groeide hij ook op. Kaffe schilderde en zou een studie gaan volgen aan de kunstacademie in Boston, maar dat was van korte duur. Lessen volgen was niets voor hem, hij ging thuis schilderen. In 1964 vertrok hij naar Engeland om daar te gaan schilderen. Hij ging in Londen wonen. Tijdens een bezoek aan een wolmolen in Schotland kocht hij verschillende bollen wol. In de trein terug naar Londen vroeg hij aan een vrouw hem te leren breien. Zijn eerste trui breide hij in 20 kleuren en werd afgebeeld in de Vogue Knitting. Dat was het begin van zijn carrière. In 1988 had hij een tentoonstelling in het V & A Museum in Londen. Kaffe Fassett ontwerpt breipatronen voor ROWAN YARNS, Borduurpakketten voor EHRMAN TAPESTRY. Zijn werk is vastgelegd in vele BOEKEN. Dit jaar presenteerde hij het boek Dreaming in Color an Autobiography. Op 22 november bezoekt hij THE ABC TREEHOUSE in Amsterdam. HIER kun je het boek doorbladeren. Zijn kleurrijke huis in Londen.
